Background ì 2015-16: All 11 th grades participated in the ACT Pilot ì 2016-17: Districts could select between the ACT or the SAT for 11 th grade students ì Due to timing constraints, the ACT was selected ì 2017-18: The State plan for assessment now requires 11 th graders to take a College and Career readiness exam plus a science exam. ì Districts must select the ACT or SAT

ACT and SAT Comparison Process ì Our goal is to make an educated, thoughtful decision regarding the selection of the 11 th grade school day exam : ACT or SAT. ì Process used: Presentation from ACT and SAT ì Attendees included the Curriculum Team and High School ì Principals Focus groups with Teachers, Parents and Students ì Follow up survey ì
Perception ì Oklahoma schools only accept the ACT. ì My parents and siblings took the ACT, so I thought that was what I needed to do too. ì I am not familiar with the SAT, so I took the ACT. ì I heard the SAT was harder. ì Our curriculum is aligned to ACT.
Reality vs. Perception ì All Oklahoma Colleges accept the SAT. ì Based on ACT/SAT Concordance Tables: ì Colleges with scores in dark gray have equivalent ACT and SAT admission requirements ì Colleges with scores in the light gray have lower SAT than ACT admission requirements
Reality vs. Perception ì Students may take the ACT and SAT on National Testing Dates as they have in the past. This creates an additional option for students. ì Our students score higher on the PSAT than the PreACT. ì The SAT exam series was redesigned in 2016. ì Our curriculum is aligned to Oklahoma Standards with the ability to embed ACT or SAT, which have many similarities.
