  2. GOALS • Overview of planning/implementation grant • What we have been doing on campus/what we know about Purdue • Where we’re headed

DATA • 64.6% consuming alcohol in past month • 31% binge drinking in past two weeks • 10.7% of males (3-5 times) binge drinking in past two weeks • 27.5% blacked out in last year • 7.9% drove a car under influence in past year • 11.1% created problems between them/friends/family Source: Indiana College Substance Use Survey, 2017 - 1,465 students responded

AND THERE’S MORE… 67% reported at least one day over the past month that their mental health was not good 39.9% - (1-5 days) 13.4% (6-10 days) 12.1% (11-30 days) 21.9% showed signs of depression over last 12 months 7.5% considered attempting suicide Challenge with Data – haven’t seen linkage between substance abuse and mental health Source: Indiana College Substance Use Survey, 2017 - 1,465 students responded

  17. FIVE UNIVERSAL MESSAGES • Problem Solving: Everyone has challenges, experiences, and obstacles. Knowing when to ask for help is key! • Failure: Failure is an important part of learning and success. • Core Values: College life requires clarifying values and adapting to a new normal. • Coping with stress: Stress is natural and can become overwhelming. Building resiliency to cope with stress means finding healthy ways to de-stress. • Interpersonal relationships: Understanding how to communicate and develop relationships is key to success. This includes respecting each other, sharing your feelings, supporting each other, and finding gratitude
