COMPONENT 1: PERFORMING

(*Paper code: 1MU0/01) Non-examined assessment: internally marked and externally moderated 30% of the qualification – 60 marks

CONTE TENT OVERVIEW Solo performing • Ensemble performing ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

  • Students perform for at least 4 minutes combined duration (Max 6 mins)
  • Each performance must be at least 1 minute
  • Each performance will be out of 30 marks
  • Internally marked and externally moderated

HOW SHOULD STUDENTS PREPARE?

  • Students should be working on their solo and ensemble with their

instrumental teacher in each lesson and receiving regular feedback.

  • Students should be rehearsing their solo and ensemble regularly. They

should be rehearsing at least 3 sessions of 20-30 minutes each week.

  • Students shouldn't just be rehearsing a piece beginning to end – it

should be broken up and sections rehearsed until improvements made.

  • Students may wish to practice their performance in the studio so they

can get over any nerves and be fully prepared for their recorded performance.

COMPONENT 2: COMPOSING

  • Students compose 2 compositions, of at least

3 minutes’ combined duration

  • One composition to a brief set by Pearson, of

at least 1 minute in duration.

  • One free composition set by the student, of

at least 1 minute in duration.
