Sports/Clubs Eligibility - Students who receive 2 or more failing grades per quarter will be placed on probation (warning) for the next marking period - Students who again fail 2 or more courses for the second straight quarter, will be ineligible meaning they cannot participate in sports or any extracurricular activities

Typical Schedule for 8th Grade COURSE Credits English 8 5 Algebra I 5 History 8 5 Science 8 5 World Language 5 Health 8 (semester) 2.5 PE 8 (semester) 2.5 Computer Literacy (semester) 2.5 40 Credit Workload Students are able to take three 2.5 credit electives (note: Band, Orchestra, and Chorus are 5 credits electives) - 8th graders must earn at least 27 credits for promotion to 9th grade - Final grade of a 60 or above for student to receive credit - Students who do not complete 27 credits may have to attend summer school, which is not offered by East Brunswick

  10. Scheduling - Online scheduling will be open through Parent Access on January 11, 2019. You and your parents will select your top elective choices on Parent Access. - You will need to select 8 choices, even though you will only take three elective courses. This allows us to ensure that we are able to put you in a class that you are interested in that fits in your schedule. - All online course selections must be made by April 26, 2019. Elective changes can be made until May 31, 2019.

Online Information - All information on elective choices and how to select them is available on our website: ebnet.org → Churchill → Counseling tab → Scheduling - There are a ton of resources available there including: 2019-2020 Course Guide, the 8th Grade Course Request Worksheet with Course Descriptions, Parent Access/ Genesis Scheduling Instructions, and this PowerPoint. - We will also go over scheduling instructions at the end of this presentation.

  12. Elective Selection - We will be coming back to Hammarskjold on January 15th to go over elective courses with you and answer any questions you may have. - You will hand in a paper course selection sheet on January 15th, but we will use your selections on Parent Access as your final choice.

  15. Level Placement Placement in honors level classes is determined by the subject area department chair/supervisor based on a number of variables as per a matrix score.

World Language Students should stick with the world language from 6th grade Students will be able to have the option to go into AP and honors level courses the longer they stick with the same language Seal of Biliteracy : - Students will have the option of taking the Seal of Biliteracy if they are enrolled in the same language for __ years. - This exam certifies student is biliterate (meaning they can; read, write, speak, and understand a second language) - This certification appears on HS transcript - This is viewed as an asset for college admission and/or a job

  21. In Parent Access, go to the scheduling screen and click on requests.

  22. Click on request a course in any of the categories. You can choose from all areas for electives. 8 electives must be chosen and prioritized with a number

  23. You must choose 8 electives from any elective area and must prioritize your requests by putting a number from 1 (highest priority) to 8 (lowest priority) in the additional information box. Once you choose a course and priority level click request this course. You must choose one course at a time, click ok, and then go back into requests to choose the next course.

  24. The requested courses show up on the main page along with the priority level.

  25. To delete a request, click on the garbage can to the right and then click OK.

  26. Your remaining requests will still be on the screen along with their priority levels.

  27. World Language Please pick your next progression. ONLY IF you want to change your language, request 3 in priority order.

  28. Please be aware that if you do not complete your selections they will automatically save until your next visit to the site. You should only click the submit button once you have chosen all of your courses as you will be locked out of further selections. When you are completely done click submit and type SUBMIT (all caps) in the top box.

  29. Next make sure you are still logged into Parent Access, go to the scheduling page, scheduling tab and click on the PDF file icon next to 2019-2020. This will bring up the course verification page so you can review your requests.
