SELECTING CLASSES FOR 8TH GRADE

  • 1. You will be selecting: English, PE, Elective
  • 2. 0 period to start school at 7:20am (optional for students)
  • 3. All students will be automatically enrolled in US History, 8th

grade Science and the next course in the math sequence.

Please make a careful and thoughtful decision based on your abilities and dedication to studies because you will be making a year long commitment. If you are not in Honors English 7 but would like to be in Honors English 8, please review the course profiles on the EWMS counseling website so you are making an informed decision.

SURF PE

Learn about ocean safety through collaborative lessons with local lifeguards. Enjoy bodyboarding or surfing under the watchful eye of our Surf PE “supervisors.” Students are not provided instruction how on how to surf or bodyboard. However, beginners are welcome. You must pass a swim test in the first 2 weeks of school Due to popular demand, not all students who request Surf PE will get it. Space is limited.

Independent Study Physical Education

You must complete an ISPE Application EVERY YEAR! ISPE applications are only accepted April 16 to June 1, 2018. We do not allow students to switch into ISPE in the middle of the year. 1) Individualized sports only (no team sports) 2) Students are accepted on a case by case basis 3) Music students may take ISPE as a 7th class and choose a second elective 5th period only an option if students select 0 period 6th period (Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoon)

WORLD LANGUAGE

1. You must earn a C or better in Spanish I to move on to Spanish II. 2. Begin your world language no later than 9th grade. 3. In 9th grade, additional choices are French, Japanese, Chinese and American Sign Language may be available (depending on which high school you attend).

You may enroll in Band/Guitar for your elective and select one

CHOOSE WISELY

1. We are scheduling for the whole year. 2. Schedule changes will not be made to accommodate teacher requests, classes with friend requests, period requests, carpools

  • r extracurricular and athletic activities.

3. SDUHSD Board Policy sets a four-week limit at the beginning of each semester to drop a class. Level changes (from honors to college prep) may be requested during this four-week period if there is space available.

March 21 is the last day to complete course selections online 6. If you change your mind, June 1st is the last day to make schedule changes with the counseling office

1. Your 8th Grade Registration packet is due on Wednesday, March 21 to your history teacher. 2. If you have not yet turned in your Verification of Residency (This is due March 30), your 8th grade registration will be incomplete. This will effect receiving first come on electives or surf PE requests. 3. Make sure you have selected your courses online prior to this day.
