Background & Context

  • Typically in Aus & NZ, Fellowship represents a recognition of

expertise in a given field

  • This expertise is usually established either by way of
  • 1. Education & training

OR

  • 2. Skills & experience
  • The ASLM Fellowship takes an education & training approach

to Fellowship

  • However there are provisions for Recognition of Prior Learning

The strengths of our multidisciplinary nature

  • The multidisciplinary nature of ASLM, the Fellowship, and Lifestyle

Medicine as a whole, is one of our greatest strengths

  • It represents exactly the kind of thinking and paradigm shift that is

required to address this growing epidemic of chronic and lifestyle related diseases.

www.lifestylemedicine.org.au

Conceptual Framework

  • The ASLM Fellowship is conceptually based on a Masters degree in

structure

  • It utilizes a model of 1440 nominal learning hours (e.g. 12 tertiary

units x 120 nominal learning hours each)

  • Therefore, Fellowship candidates need to earn 1440 points under

the Fellowship framework to be awarded the Fellowship.

  • This is an industry-based recognition, not a tertiary qualification.

www.lifestylemedicine.org.au

Rights to practice

  • The ASLM Fellowship does not confer any additional rights to

practice

  • You are still expected to practice within the scope of your profession
  • What it does provide you with, however, is
  • A recognition of expertise in the field of LM
  • Legitimacy to practice your profession from an evidence-based

LM perspective.

  • A community of like-minded LM experts, with whom you can

connect, collaborate and develop professionally.
