Key features of the new GCSEs in England include:
- Greater content
- More rigorous examination questioning
- An increased focus on spelling, punctuation
and grammar
- An end to coursework in most reformed GCSEs
SLIDE 9 What has changed for our current Year 9 students?
- GCSEs in all subjects will follow the new
arrangements
- Grades will be 1 -9 with 9 being the highest
- In most GCSE subjects, students will sit exams
at the end of their two year course
- Students will receive numerical grades in
August 2020.
SLIDE 10
SLIDE 11
Start with the end in mind!
SLIDE 12 Progression
- All young people must stay on in education
and/or training until they are 18
- At least a Grade 5 in both English and
Mathematics for A Level Courses and Grade 4 for vocational courses
- Students who do not achieve the above at the
end of Year 11 will have to continue to study Mathematics and/or English
- Universities are interested in GCSE grades and
not just A Level results
