Examinations

  • When do we start preparing our Year11 students for their exams?

Dates

  • Parents evening – 23rd October
  • HCSE Mock exams – 15th November until 28th November
  • HCSE certificate presentation – 14th December
  • Parents evening – 17th January
  • HCSE Mock exams – 11th March until 15th March (core subjects only in

the hall)

  • Year 11 final reports home – Friday 5th April
  • GCSE exams – begin in May and will run throughout June

How are they organised?

  • This will depend on the exam.
  • Oral, practical, coursework, portfolio
  • External tests can be from 45 minutes to 2 hrs and 15 minutes
  • All have a minimum of 2 papers

Practical tips

  • Know the examination timetable (HCSEs and GCSEs)
  • HCSE timetable available
  • Make sure they are in school in plenty of time before the exam!
  • Exam warm ups are on during the GCSE exam season
  • Help them with their revision timetable
  • They should have created one in their tutor groups. Ask them to share it with you
  • Test them – if they’ll let you!
  • Flash cards are a great way of quick testing
  • Bribery?! A possible treat at the end?
