Why Core Subjects?

New GCSE Grading Structure

  • Most subjects have been reformed
  • Students will receive a mixture of 9-1

and A* to G grades in the summer

  • The same proportion of students will

achieve grade 4 and above as currently achieve C grade and above

  • Broadly the same proportion of students

will achieve a grade 7 and above as currently achieve a grade A and above

  • Grade 5 will be awarded to the top

third of students gaining the equivalent

  • f a grade C or bottom third of a grade
  • B. The DFE has decided that a grade 5

will be a ‘good pass’

  • The top 20 percent of those who get a

7 or above in each exam will be awarded a grade 9 – this is around 3%

  • f students.

What do you need to know?

– There will be 3 exam papers for Mathematics. 1 non-calculator and 2 calculator papers – Each paper is worth 1/3 of the result – The papers are 1hour 30minutes (Edexcel examination board) – Students will sit either the higher or foundation tier

Higher tier (Grade 4-9) Foundation tier (Grade 1-5).

The department will choose which tier the students sit depending on factors including their set, performance in mock examinations, performance in lessons.

Homework Year 11 are set 3 pieces of homework per fortnight. Please make sure they are not rushing their work and they are looking up things when they get stuck. They should spend an average of 60 minutes on any piece of homework.
