THE CHALLENGE
In the quest for higher completion rates, open access colleges like PBSC are being asked to… Help develop a skilled workforce Ensure an open door is not a revolving door Recapture the nation’s lead in education Serve and graduate more students Help under- prepared students succeed in college Build stronger local economies Do more with less Make bold changes with little support
that enable institutions to plan for and implement scaled, holistic and sustainable solutions.

A nation in which community colleges are highly valued for preserving access and assuring that their students, especially low income students and students of color, achieve their goals for academic success, personal growth, and economic opportunity. To lead and support a national network of community colleges to achieve sustainable institutional transformation through sharing knowledge, innovative solutions and effective practices and policies leading to improved outcomes for all students.
ATD Mission ATD Vision
INNOVATE to successfully implement, align, and scale cutting edge reforms that increase student success, close achievement gaps, and generate economic benefit for communities. COACH leaders to build institutional capacity, lead whole-college reform, and sustain continuous improvement. CONNECT to a network of leaders to foster innovation and peer learning.
7
To improve student success on a substantial scale, colleges need to engage in bold and holistic institutional change.
8
There is no perfect or “right way” to improve student success; interventions, strategies, and innovations need to be adapted to each college’s culture, priorities, staff talents and institutional resources.
9
Data provide insights into student achievement, performance gaps, and the effectiveness of programs and services. But, data are not sufficient. Successful colleges use data to inform planning and action.
Key Lessons from ATD Network
10
Improving student success doesn’t follow a linear
back, and then more steps forward and back.
11
Improving student success involves everyone. It’s not the responsibility of academic and student affairs
contribute to the effort.
