Adrian Scherders Memorial Award for Sportsmanship & Dedication This award is presented to a male or female athlete that has been registered on a team within a minor sports association in Brantford or a member of a high school or elementary team. The athlete must demonstrate sportsmanship, dedication and fair play. This special person makes a real difference on the team both on and off the playing field.

LEAH COON - PROFILE • attends St. John’s College and is a hardworking and dedicated athlete • while playing basketball, volleyball and badminton, she demonstrates outstanding skill, competitiveness and sportsmanship • Her leadership roles at school include students’ council, green team and campus ministry

KYLEIGH FARMER - PROFILE • Attends BCI where she is incredibly dedicated to health and fitness. • she will modify and adapt in whatever way necessary to overcome challenges Her teachers say she has made • them better teachers and coaches. She has made fellow students and athletes through her hardworking, dedicated and intelligent character. • She is a very gifted athlete that has turned adversity into ability.

ANDREW VALLEE - PROFILE • member of the Brantford Aquatic Club, he has brought professionalism and a high level of sportsmanship to the club • He demonstrates his enthusiasm for the sport of swimming and his dedication by having attended all early morning workouts Looked upon as a leader for the • younger swimmers by the staff of the BAC as he is a representative that daily embodies the values of BAC through his character

  11. George Churchill Memorial Sports Volunteer of the Year Had the category existed during his day, George Churchill would have found himself nominated for this award for decades. His tireless work with the track and field program here in Brantford, both with the Brantford club and also with the schools, allowed Brantford to become a hub for some of the best competitions in the sport. He was the man behind the organization and execution of just about every meet during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even in to the 90’s. He was also the coach of Brantford’s first track and field to make the Olympic Games, with Debbie Miller in 1968.

  13. GABRIELLE GRACEY - PROFILE • Bilingual member of the Brantford Girls’ Hockey Association who attends BCI • Her commitment to the BGHA is evident in all aspects – playing, instructing, officiating and time keeping • Provides valuable training and leadership to the youngest and newest players

RANDY KITCHEN - PROFILE • Volunteers with the BCI Mustangs Boys Hockey team He brings many skills, talents and • knowledge to the boys which have enabled many to play beyond their high school hockey career • His rapport and genuine interest in every player both on and off the ice adds to his encouragement to all players to do their very best on the ice, in school and to be role models within their community

JOHN VALLEE - PROFILE • Volunteers as a Level ‘V’ official locally and national at meets Has held a variety of positions • on the board, where he ensured proper certification for officiaiting levels and accurate technical information • He is a valuable member of the BAC where his volunteerism at meets allows the BAC to maintain a formidable reputation for producing highly professional officials across Canada

  18. John Macklin Memorial Award Coach of the Year Nominees Macklin began coaching and officiating track and field in Branford in 1966, and continued through until 1994. During his time, he helped to coach many athletes from Brantford who would go on to national and international competition, including the likes of Liz Polyak, Kevin Sullivan and Rick Mannen. Along the way, he became a respected official on the international stage, officiating at almost every Canadian and international meet during the 1970’s and 1980’s. On top of coaching and officiating, he also was the organizer of the Brant County Track and Filed and Cross Country championships for many years, and was heavily involved with the organization of the CWOSSA and OFSAA championships in both of these sports as well.

  20. MIKE KEMP - PROFILE • Coaches in the Brantford Youth Flag Football and is considered a major asset to the organization • He brings enthusiasm, dedication, and skill to his team along with a sense of fair play • His team has won the division championship the last 2 years

  21. MATT LYNCH - PROFILE • Teaches and coaches senior girls’ basketball at St. John’s College • Demonstrates dedication and superior coaching as proven by his record with the girls basketball team: 5 out of 8 OFSAA titles • His preparation to detail and quiet demeanor have gained him the respect of players, coaches and officials alike.

  22. GARTH RICKWOOD - PROFILE • Coach with the Brantford Girls’ Hockey • In his first year as coach, led Bantam ‘A’ to a Gold Medal at the Provinical finals, followed by a Bronze the next year as a Bantam ‘AA’ team • His skills have helped several of the girls to pursue hockey at the next level

George Jones Memorial Award for Lifetime Sports Volunteerism To be eligible for this award, the person must be a VOLUNTEER within a Brantford minor sports association, or with an elementary school or high school in the city of Brantford. The individual must volunteer in a role other than coach e.g. Training staff, board members, etc… This person must have been with the association/team for a minimum of 15 years, and their presence as a member of the organization has a positive impact on those with whom they interact in their role.

JOHN LOVETT - PROFILE • V olunteers on the board of Brantford Briers in a variety of capacities • Formerly was Chair of BCESSA – Brant County Elementary School Sports Association, where he organized many events • He has been devoted to the young athletes of our community by promoting athletics and positive values

TRACY OLDROYD - PROFILE • F or over 18 years has volunteered for the Brantford Minor Softball Association in a variety of areas Willingly gives up her • summer vacation to oversee the many facets of a baseball season She is a very organized, • passionate, hard working volunteer with great attention to detail, while always keeping a smile on her face.

Jimmy Wilkes Memorial Award Team of the Year Nominees When you talk about the sport of baseball in Brantford, the conversation will usually involve the Brantford Red Sox of the Inter-County Baseball League, and will inevitably include the name Jimmy Wilkes. Wilkes has been a legend of baseball in this community ever since arriving to play with the Brantford Red Sox in 1953. He was involved with the league as a player, then as an umpire, for over 30 years. His quiet leadership helped the Red Sox to several championships, as well as with the development of many players throughout the Inter- County league as well as Brantford Minor Baseball.

  32. BANTAM AA GIRLS’ HOCKEY Won bronze at the Provincial • Finals • Fantastic accomplishment to compete at the AA level and be successful – won the Alliance Bantam AA Championship
