Reading

By Year 5 the children are expected to be reading at home every night, preferably with an adult. Reading records will be checked every week for reading points on a Monday.

1 point if you read at home and you write in your diary yourself. 2 points if you read at home, you write in your diary but a parent signs. 3 points if you read at home, your parent writes in the diary and signs.

Assessment

  • Termly tests will take place, but these are used in conjunction with ongoing

assessment as they only provide a snapshot.

  • Children are encouraged to take an active role in marking and editing

their own work for improvement.

Homework

Homework is set on a Friday, and due in on a Wednesday the following week. When homework is marked the children can get up to 3 family points and a party point.

 1 family point – handed in on late, but completed  2 family points – handed in on time and fully completed  3 family points – effort has been clearly put in and presentation is neat  3 family points AND 1 party point – you have gone above and beyond expected.

Alongside the homework task, times tables and spellings will continue to be set each week to practise. These can be practised and recorded however they wish, it could either be written or a note from an adult. If a Mymaths task is set and there is no access to a computer at home, then a school computer can be used during their break time to complete the task. If homework is not complete, then they will lose the class a party point.

House keeping!

Attendance

 On time to school each day. We complete a quick 10 minute mental maths warm up each morning, so

being on time is important! Arrival after 8:50am will result in a late mark.

 Please note, there is an update to our Attendance Policy following the County expectations regarding

  • attendance. Key changes are detailed on the Parentmail message and Newsletter.

 At the end of the day the children are collected from the KS2 playground. Children can walk home on their

  • wn in Year 5, under the permission of a parent or guardian. If you want your child to walk home alone,

then make the office aware.

 Mobile phones are banned from school. However, should a mobile be needed for safety when walking

home, or another similar situation, then it MUST be signed into the office. Any phones found in school bags will be removed and given to the office.

House keeping!

 Pencil cases are allowed, but no more than 1 pencil case. Everything has to be able to fit inside the pencil

case.

 Encouragement to use the toilet and drink during break and lunch times to minimise disruptions during

lessons, unless a medical reason prevents this.

 Uniform-looking smart – Names in all clothing.  PE – earrings need to be removed and long hair tied back.  PE on Mondays and Tuesdays, but changes to Monday and Friday after half term (but best have PE kit in

school all the time!)

 Fruit and Veg based snack Monday-Thursday (tuck on a Friday)  Water bottles every day (no juice).
