  12. What Does Math Look Like This Year? ● 60 minutes daily ● Begins with a high-quality number routine ● Standards based instruction: high quality tasks, variety of representations, purposeful questions, and student discourse ● Closure everyday

Differentiated Math Instruction ● Set instructional outcomes that are challenging and rigorous for all students ● Select tasks with multiple entry points ● Intentional selection of daily structure of math block based on student needs ● Encourage students to use varied strategies to make sense of task using their own reasoning ● Flexible groupings

Primary English Language Arts ● The Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark system is used to identify students’ reading levels in Grades K-2 ● Students meet in small groups to match instruction to their level ● Flexible grouping ● Independent student practice includes: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, Work on Writing

  18. Homework Expectations HCPSS Grades Pre-K – 2 Guidelines: ● Amount of Homework: No more than 20 minutes of homework per night will be assigned. In Pre-K and Kindergarten there will be no assignments that must be submitted to the teacher. ● Purpose of Homework: Homework provides practice opportunities for skill development. ○ Families are encouraged to read to or with their children nightly. ● Families are encouraged to practice grade appropriate math facts or related activities on a nightly basis. Our Team’s Homework Expectations: - Read for at least 10 minutes - Practice letters/sounds and/or sight words -OR- - Do one activity from the math calendar

School-wide Title I Program ● Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure all children have an opportunity to access a high quality education. ● Funding is used to support and enhance our school program, and provide additional academic support for every Deep Run student. ● Our program allows all students to be eligible for additional academic support and funds are used to support/enhance our school program. ● This support can include additional staffing, instructional materials, professional development, etc. ● Family Programs will be offered throughout the school year. ● We value your perspective and appreciate any suggestions, comments, or questions.
