  2. What is involved. 4 sections; Volunteering, Skill, Physical and Expedition Volunteering, Skills and Physical need to be completed in own time over a set period of time, either 6 or 3 months ( one for 6 other 2 for 3). The expectation is that these should be an hour a week, could be more or could be two 30 minute. These need to be approved by me, this is done via edofe. Completion- they have until 25 to complete but most students complete bronze within a year and so we look forward to seeing most of these year 9 students at our awards evening next March. They will need to complete by the end of February 2017.

  3. edofe D of E have two parts to their websites. An area open to everyone with lots of useful bits of information on and a place for assessors to upload their assessor's report. An individual portal to personal account. This is known as edofe and is where students record what they are doing for each section, upload any photos or other evidence. My edofe account allows me to see their progress, to approve items and two sign off sections. It is really important that students engage with edofe from the start.

  4. Expedition section In teams of 4 to 7 students will complete an expedition over two days. They need to meet the 20 conditions of D of E. This includes cooking for themselves, planning and following a route, being active ( out of camp) for 6 hours each day. They cannot go to any shops along the way. If they go off course they are expected to go back to the last point they were on their route. They will have an assessor who will see them at the beginning, at least once on day 1, in camp, somewhere on route on day 2 and just before finish. We are also out monitoring their progress

  5. Training In order for teams to complete the assessed expedition they have to complete all aspects of the training. On the training day ( Feb 27th or Mar 5th ) they will cover; ● Map reading and navigation ● Kit and how to use ● First Aid ● Countryside Code

  6. Practice Walk - this give the students an opportunity to put into practice their navigation and map reading training. It allows them to work as a team and to experience walking together. It will last about 3 hours They do not need full kit but do need boots, waterproofs and a day sack. Plus food and a drink. This starts and finishes at Devil’s Dyke. Practice Expedition - this is a full practice of the assessed expedition. It allows students to practice everything they have learnt and gives us the opportunity to continue with their training in a practical setting. Teams set off from Jack and Jill Windmills, Clayton, camp overnight at Hillside Scout Camp in Small Dole and then return to Clayton Windmills on Sunday.
