Pickerington High School North Graduation Requirements In addition to the required graduation credits, students are required to take 8 end-of course exams and achieve one of the following to receive a diploma: Option 1: Earn a cumulative passing score on eight end-of-course exams. ❧ The scores will be set by the State Board of Education. Students must accumulate a minimum of 18 points from scores on their end of course exams to become eligible for a diploma. Option 2: Students earn “remediation-free” scores in English language arts ❧ and mathematics on a nationally recognized college admission exam. Option 3: Earn a State Board of Education-approved, industry recognized ❧ credential or a state-issued license for practice in a career and achieve a score that demonstrates workforce readiness and employability on a job skills assessment.

  6. Class of 2019 and beyond take 8 required end of course exams. English 9 ❧ Biology ❧ English 10 ❧ American History ❧ Algebra 1 ❧ American Government. ❧ Geometry ❧ Each end of course exam will be taken in the late Spring.

  10. What are colleges looking for? Choosing the right classes • Choose classes that you will be successful in but ones that will challenge you. • Make sure you read about the classes you select in the Program of Studies Guide. • Be flexible- you may not be able to take every course you want the first year. • Make sure to choose alternates. Not every class is offered every period and sometimes classes are cancelled. • We are here to explain your options. The final decision is between you and your parents. • Think about your future plans and goals when selecting classes. • Discuss your options with your parents and current teachers.

College Credit Plus (CCP) Opportunities for high school students to earn college credit while still in high school. •Students can take college courses offered at PHS North/PHS Central, courses offered at universities or college campuses in the area, or online college courses. There is no cost for these classes for the student or parent. •Students must qualify for the college course by obtaining a qualifying score on the ACT or ACCUPLACER. The student must apply and be accepted to the partnering college and must follow the college’s procedures for enrollment. These requirements are listed in the Program of Studies Guide. •If you choose to request a College Credit Plus class, you should make sure to choose an alternate course in case you do not meet the college’s criteria for the class.

College Credit Plus - Continued •More information about the College Credit Plus program will be forthcoming at an Information Session that will be held on February 8, 2017 at 7 pm at PHS North Performing Arts Center. •Additional information will also be posted on the school district’s website as it becomes available. College Credit Plus ● Duration of class: One semester classes (half-year) ● Credit awarded: One (1) high school credit ● Weighted credit: 5.0 weighted grading scale ● Exam needed for college credit: No; college course grade earned is transcripted to college ● Cost: None ● Application process: Must apply and be accepted by the college partner and earn qualifying ACT/ACCuplacer score

  16. What Math do I take? Remember - You must have 4 units of math to graduate **If you are questioning what you should choose, please speak with your current Math Teacher. Algebra 1 ❧ • Algebra II C or better in 8th grade Integrated ✓ C- or better average in Geometry, Math also must have passed Algebra Geometry ❧ • Honors Algebra II If you have already taken Algebra I ✓ • B or better is recommended in with a C- or above Honors Geometry or A- or better is recommended in Geometry Honors Geometry ❧ • See Program of Studies ✓ B or better is recommended in Honors Guide for College Credit Algebra I or A- or better in Algebra I Plus Options. * * Must having qualifying ACT or ACCUPLACER Score

  17. What Science class should I begin with? The requirements for incoming freshmen are as follows: Incoming freshmen who took Science 8 are required to take 1 credit of Integrated ❧ Science in the 9 th grade. 205 Integrated Science (Y) ❧ Incoming freshmen who took Integrated Science in the 8th grade will take one of the ❧ following courses: 201 Biology (Y) ❧ 203H Honors Biology (Y) ❧ 212AP AP Biology (Y) ❧ In addition to Biology you may also take (please look at all prerequisites): ❧ Meteorology and Oceanography (S) ❧ See Program of Studies Guide for ❧ College Credit Plus options.* Astronomy (S) ❧ Physics (Y) ❧ Honors Physics (Y) ❧ Chemistry ❧ * Must having qualifying ACT or Compass Score Honors Chemistry (Y) ❧

  18. What about Social Studies? • World History • Honors World History It is recommended you have ✓ a B or better in 8 th grade social studies • See Program of Studies Guide for College Credit Plus options.* * Must having qualifying ACT or ACCUPLACER Score

Physical Education There are 3 options to fulfill your PE requirement: • Take PE during the school year - select one of four semester courses: Lifetime Fitness ✓ Lifetime Sports ✓ Team Sports ✓ Physical Conditioning/Strength Training ✓ • PE Replacement Student must participate in two seasons of athletics (OHSSA ✓ sanctioned sport), marching band or cheerleading. Students that choose this must replace PE with a 1/2 unit course. ✓ Students who choose this option must complete and return an ✓ application for PE replacement to the School Counseling Office. (Form is attached to registration form) • Summer Gym: If available.

World Language Study • Consider the following: Most colleges recommend at least 2 years of the ▪ same world language ▪ Class Load What sounds interesting to you ▪ To succeed in world language, you have to be ▪ willing to put in the time to study ▪ If you struggle with English…don’t try to tackle a world language
