Advisement Overview • Course Description Guide (ONLINE ONLY), Course Request Worksheet, Infinite Campus Registration Form, Credit Check Letters. • Counselors will be working through Language Arts classes to do Individual Advisement with you, so it is not necessary to make an appointment. Counselors will be available in the Counseling Office during FLEX time January 17-27. • Online Registration Print-Out and Course Recommendation Form signed by both you and your parent , must be returned to your Language Arts teacher no later than January 28 . • Turn in required course applications to your counselor during your advisement session (i.e. Cadet Teaching, Child Development II, Office Aide).

Course Description Guide New Additions & Changes - Language Arts Introduction to College Literature - studies classical British Lit - available for College ● Credit through UMSL (one semester course - satisfies one semester of 12th Grade LA) ● Topics in College Literature: Contemporary Novels - studies novels from the 21st century - available for college credit through UMSL (one semester course - satisfies one semester of 12th Grade LA) ● Black Literature - studies literature of black writers of Africa, America and England from past to present (one semester course - satisfies one semester of 12th Grade LA) Introduction to College Writing - formerly Senior Composition - available for College ● Credit through UMSL ● Popular Literature - focus on young adult books - formerly Senior Reader’s / Writer’s Workshop

Course Description Guide Language Arts Changes ● 12th Grade Language Arts credit can be attained by completing 2 semesters from any of the courses listed below: ○ Introduction to College Literature ○ Topics in College Literature ○ AP English Language & Composition (2 semester course) ○ AP English Literature & Composition (2 semester course) ○ Black Literature ○ Creative Writing ○ Sports Literature & Writing ○ Multicultural Literature ○ Science Fiction Literature ○ Language, Communication and Composition 2 (2 semester course) ○ Journalism Writing & Reporting ○ Public Speaking

  9. Course Registration •Register for seven classes per semester. •Carefully consider course selections (changes will be difficult to make after Advisement). • Print your course selections. It must be signed by both you and your parent . Please submit the printout to your Language Arts teacher no later than January 28

  10. ALTERNATES • Please choose FOUR different classes …Semester courses only • Listing FOUR alternates is important! • Make sure these alternates are classes you want to take; in case of scheduling conflicts, alternates will be used!

Infinite Campus Registration Instructions Portal is open from: ▪ Friday, January 17 (7:00 a.m.) – Monday, January 27 (4:00 p.m.) All students are expected to register online. ▪ If IC won’t let you enter a class, it MAY be an application-only class. ▪ ▪ If you need a computer/printer, please access one in the library prior to the portal closing. If you need assistance, please see your counselor in the Counseling Office (Room 123) during Flex every day that the portal is open. ▪ If you need help accessing Infinite Campus, please contact the Helpdesk at portalhelp@rsdmo.org

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SENIORS Senior Option – arrive to school one hour later or leave school one hour earlier. -Eligibility requirements: No failing grades from previous semester, no unexcused absences, no fines or fees, no ISS/OSS during previous semester, must turn in application by given deadline. -Applications for fall 2020 will be available in the junior office this May. -Applications for spring 2021 will be available in the senior office next year. (You must apply each semester; this is NOT a requestable course). Dual Enrollment and Early Release/Graduation – Check with your Counselor about these programs. Complete a full schedule when registering!

To accomplish this task, the Rockwood and Parkway School Districts actively engages and works collaboratively with business partners, community service and educational leaders to design and develop mutually beneficial learning experiences based on the interests of students and stakeholders.

Business Internship/Cooperative Career Education (CCE) Mr. Matt Landwehr • The CCE program gives seniors the unique opportunity to attend school 4 or 5 hours a day by receiving high school credit for working. Students get the opportunity to make money while earning credit at school. • Credit for work may include hours before school, after school, in the evening and/or weekends. • The job you have may work perfectly with the program or I can help you find a job. Employers like having CCE students because they’re typically reliable workers.

  19. Business Internship/Cooperative Career Education (CCE) Mr. Matt Landwehr • The program is very flexible. Students involved in athletics and after school activities may participate. It also can work with dual enrollment. • If you are interested in this program, complete the application available in the counselor’s office and turn it in as soon as possible.   23. ACT / SAT Preparation Time Mrs. Cheryl Hermach • I can help you: – Make a plan on when and where to prep – Help you register for ACT / SAT test – Go over your results with you • Just make an appointment in the Counseling Office (Room 123) with Mrs. Beadles

  24. ACT Prep Class • April Test Prep Class registration materials are available in the Counseling Office • 1 st Come, 1 st Serve. Limit of 30 students • We will have another prep class offered after school is out – May 26-29 from 8:00-12:00 to prepare for the June 13 th national test date

  25. ACT Prep Class • If you take the national tests on April 4 or June 13, know that if you pay $22 extra, you can get the test and your answers back in about 6 weeks to see what you missed. • If you don’t get the scores you want this spring, please make a note to come see me in the fall. As seniors, I have some free tutoring I can offer you then.

  26. ACT CHANGES • As of Sept. 2020, ACT will allow students to take 1-3 tests of the ACT and not the entire test. CATCH - it’ll only be offered on computer and at select sites. • ACT is Superscoring
