• Around the river-bend is one of the wildebeest river-crossing

points – a prime spot between July and November.

It’s the wildebeest birthing season, which means that between 300,000 and 400,000 calves are born; this entire new generation is born within a 4 - 6 week period – the theory being that with such a glut, predators will eat their fill, and thereafter the rest of the babies survive – hence the spectacular big cat viewing and prolific predation at this time of year. The plains literally come to life for the birthing season. Millions of gnus and zebra dominate the landscape, looking for the fresh green grass that follows the first rains - and to give birth to their young.
