Fall Programs Status
○ We are committed to offering our programs in whatever fashion possible/ allowable and safe! ○ Programs will start and follow the program as scheduled. ○ Programs likely will be a combination of virtual and in person programming: RESTORE SGT ○ We will make a decision about the first class(es) 1 month before the program is scheduled to
- start. Once the season starts, the format is subject to change.
○ Program tuition will stay the same. ○ We are utilizing creativity and our multi-disciplinary teams to plan for an exciting educational and therapeutic theatre experience!

Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 1 Rapid Spread Strict stay at home Only essential businesses open Remote Learning Virtual Programming ○ Program Structure: Classes are held during their normally scheduled day/ time via Zoom. ○ Small groups to promote individualized engagement, use break out rooms ○ Emphasis on integrity of SGT’s educational and therapeutic theatre programs ○ Educational Components: ○ Lesson plans will focus on 3 E’s: Engage, Educate, Enhance with combination of active and passive activities. ○ Visuals/ Google Slides will be used and shared. ○ Peer Mentor Components: ○ Peer mentors will be active participants in the virtual classrooms once training is completed. ○ Virtual check in meetings/ ongoing training throughout the season ○ Possible once a week facetime/ zoom 1:1 with student & peer mentor ○ Extra small groups (during regular class time) to promote socialization
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 1 Rapid Spread Strict stay at home Only essential businesses open Remote Learning Virtual Programming- Continued ○ Production/ Choreography: ○ Production and Choreography will “visit” the virtual classroom and lead activities as part of the weekly class schedule (like in person programming). ○ Consider pre-recording choreography and sharing in advance ○ Emphasize blocking motivation- who are you talking to? Why? ○ Costumes/ Set Pieces/ Props: Students will be encouraged to find costume pieces/ props from around their house (requests sent ahead of time). No SGT costume pieces/ props will be provided in this phase. ○ Performance Options: ○ Compilation of students performing at home (like MTP Friend like Me) ○ Record performance over Zoom- readers theatre style (COL Summer) ○ ABLE Ensemble for inspiration.. Narrators play a role- EX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w2FkjaRaVI&feature=youtu.be
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 2 Flattening Non-essential businesses open for pick-up/ delivery Outside activities allowed while social distancing Remote Learning Everyone wears masks Virtual Programming- Same as Phase 1.
- Consider Outside Activities for socialization between students & peer mentor
(arranged by parents, only if both feel comfortable/ safe)
- If student/ peer mentor/ parents are comfortable they may arrange to be
together (at home/ outside) for the virtual class. SGT will not coordinate this but may provide the option and contact info (if permitted/ shared) in the program directory
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 3 Recovery More businesses can re-open with limitations/ capacities ex:
- utdoor classes and
1:1 training Gatherings of 10 and fewer are allowed Remote Learning Everyone wears masks/ practices social distancing (IF PERMITTED) Combination of Virtual Programming and In Person Small Groups- rotate some participants in-person & some virtual ( some participants may choose do all virtual/ case by case basis)
- Program Structure: Classes are held during their normally scheduled day/ time-
some students/mentors/staff will meet in person and the rest will meet via Zoom. ○ Virtual Program Structure for Phases 1 & 2 applies to virtual classes ■ Students/ peer mentor pairs may choose to participate in virtual program physically together (if agreeable by both families) ○ In Person Programming (small groups/ 10 or fewer) ■ Check-in / Check-out procedures for safety of participants & staff
- Policies are being developed and will include CDC/ IDPH guidelines and
input from school districts/ similar programs which may include:
○ Student evaluation to confirm can follow policies ○ Wellness check before coming to class ○ Temperature checks upon arrival (staff, students, mentors) ○ Everyone wears masks/ face guard/ hoodie option ○ Lots of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes available/ used ○ Maintain 6’/ social distancing ○ No materials (pens, props) will be shared etc without sanitizing
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 3 Recovery More businesses can re-open with limitations/ capacities ex:
- utdoor classes and
1:1 training Gatherings of 10 and fewer are allowed Remote Learning Everyone wears masks/ practices social distancing ■ Staffing ratio the same/ half students & mentors and staff in person ■ Determining who is in person and who is virtual
- Policy TBD, May change from week to week
- Will need to coordinate with peer mentors/ peer mentor coordinator
○ Educational Components ○ Virtual educational components for phases 1 & 2 applies to virtual classes ○ In Person Programming (small groups/ 10 or fewer) ■ Lessons will promote engagement at a physical/ social distance ○ Peer Mentor Components ○ Virtual peer mentor components for phases 1 & 2 applies to virtual classes ■ If student/ peer mentor/ parents are comfortable they may arrange to be together (at home/ outside) for the virtual class. SGT will not coordinate this but may provide the option and contact info (if permitted/ shared) in the program directory ○ In Person Programming (small groups/ 10 or fewer) ■ Additional training and support to promote socialization at a social distance
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 3 Recovery More businesses can re-open with limitations/ capacities ex:
- utdoor classes and
1:1 training Gatherings of 10 and fewer are allowed Remote Learning Everyone wears masks/ practices social distancing ○ Production/ Choreography Components ○ Virtual production/ choreography components for phases 1 & 2 applies to virtual classes ○ In Person Programming (small groups/ 10 or fewer) ■ Limited costume/ prop options provided by SGT- no sharing in this phase! ■ Stage blocking and dance movements take physical/ social distancing into account ■ Consider puppet/ voice over/ narrator on screen for students who are unable to be in person ○ Performance Options: ○ Virtual Performance (similar to phase 1/2) ○ Vignette-Style Performance / Video approx 5 students on stage at a time… ○ Set/ Scenery/ Costume Implications
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 4 Revitalization Schools Reopen Gatherings of 50 or fewer are allowed Social Distancing and Capacity limits must be followed Masks are the norm In person programming resumes with safety precautions pending school/ district approval
- Program Structure: Classes are held during their normally scheduled day/ time-
maximum 50 students/ mentors/ staff on site at any time. ○ In Person Programming (groups of 50 or fewer) ■ Follow Check-in / Check-out procedures for safety of participants & staff (as
- utlined in Phase 3 section)
■ Staffing: All staff are on site at all times. Additional support from ED/ POD. ■ Consider virtual options/ at home activities for students with compromised immune systems ○ Production/ Choreography Components ○ Consider puppet/ voice over/ narrator on screen for students who are unable to be in person ○ Some costumes/ props introduced in this phase, limited sharing ○ Performance Options: ○ Full performance with virtual audience- ie facebook live, or recording
Phase Implications for SGT SGT Programming Plan Phase 5 Illinois Restored Large events are permitted “New/ Next Normal” SGT classes and performances operate like “normal” with new safety procedures in place (sanitizing, limiting unnecessary contact, etc/ TBD).
○ Partner School Policies ■ If school/ district approval is not granted in Phase 4+, SGT will seek other performance venue options as the performances approach. ○ Virtual parent meeting will be scheduled prior to the season starting. ○ Modified lesson plans/ activities shared with parents to be done at home if not able to participate in zoom (sensory reasons etc.). ○ It is possible that SGT will operate in “Phase 3” (½ program onsite, ½ program virtual) when IL is in “Phase 4” if families are not comfortable with in person (will seek input if this situation) ○ Programs likely will be a combination of virtual and in person programming throughout the
- season. We will be prepared to switch between the two formats (and offer a combination of
them) throughout the year pending what is allowed at our partner schools and is safe. ○ We will be learning as we go and making adjustments, enhancements as indicated.
Additional Considerations & Combinations

From Students:
■ It is very delightful ■ It was fun doing the Guess The Musical and The Taming Of The Shrew ■ I enjoyed seeing all the people, my favorite was when everyone brought something from a trip ■ Being with everyone. ■ Seeing my friends
○ From Parents:
■ Francesca really looked forward to Thursday evenings. It was great to see her engaged and having such a fun time. ■ A great way to continue with the summer program. ■ The Opportunity to be part of a group outside of home ■ The best thing was seeing how Matthew looked forward to class each week.
