Innovation and Technology Initiatives of TWGHs

  • Geared to the varied needs of the elderly population, TWGHs endeavor to improve

their quality of life for elderly by carrying out new initiatives.

  • In recent years, we focus on development of supportive applications for dementia

services, and people with disabilities.

  • With the aim of enhancing comfort and enjoyment of the elders, several elder-friendly

technologies cooperated with LSCM, such as anti-wandering clothing with GPS tracking function, RFID verbal cane, neighbor sensor, etc are tried out.

Innovative Use of Technology For Elderly with Dementia (1st Stage)

  • In March 2013, TWGHs participated in the RFID anti-wandering system trial for

demented elders and the project was funded by Innovation and Technology Commission.

  • Over 50 elders are participated in this stage.

Innovative Use of Technology For Elderly with Dementia (2nd Stage)

  • Since November 2014, a detachable tracking device has been added to the

system to facilitate the elders to participate in outdoor activities.

  • The new system provides tracking functions covering both indoor and outdoor

environments.

  • Proved effective in anti-wandering and in enhancing the safety to the elderly with

Dementia

Further Adoption of Anti-Wandering

  • This year, TWGHs has allocated $1.32M to pioneer the anti-wandering system

through open tender in the following Day Care Centres, District Elderly Community Centres and Specialized Services Units for Dementia Care for better protection and safety of elders with dementia. About 500 elders will be benefited.

Cooperation between TWGHs & LSCM

  • With the purpose of using innovative and technology to improve service users’ well-

being, increase operational efficiency and overcome the challenges of shrinking workforce, TWGHs will collaborate with LSCM to develop a R&D project namely “Smart IoT Infrastructure & Technologies and Big Data Analytics for Community Services” in 2017.

Cooperation between TWGHs & LSCM

  • 7 community service complexes will participate in the pilot and 900+ service users

are expected to be benefited.

Name of Social Service Complexes

  • 1. TWGHs Jockey Club Rehabilitation Complex
  • 2. TWGHs Fong Shu Chuen Social Service Building
  • 3. TWGHs Wong Cho Tong Social Service Building

  • 5. TWGHs Shuen Wan Complex
  • 6. TWGHs Wong Chuk Hang Complex
  • 7. TWGHs Jockey Club Sunshine Complex

Cooperation between TWGHs & LSCM

  • Under this project, different technologies which are closely related to the daily

activities of the service users and the service units will be applied in the service complexes, such as GNSS tracking, anti-wandering, fixed asset management and walking cane navigation (from previous project).

  • Vast amount of information, known as “Big Data” is expected to be generated from

the various technologies during the trial, which provides many insights for TWGHs to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, behavior of service users and

  • ther useful information for more-informed decisions.

  • f

technologies as standard and best practices in order to meet the long-term care needs of the aging society.
