Effects of COVID-19 Shutdown

  • Maynooth University campus closed on 13th March.
  • Department tutorials moved to Microsoft Teams and online forums.
  • Attempts to move study groups online were not successful, despite repeated efforts.
  • Similar trend of low engagement across all supports.

Tutor’s Experiences of Online Support

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Pros Cons Those who attended engaged well and more often. Low engagement. Students working on practice problems before they attended the study group aided their learning. Connectivity problems. Tutors can share their screen and refer to lecture notes. Inability to see the students’ work is an issue. Meetings can be recorded for students to view again.
