TMVCA Student Presentation Competition
Student presentation competition is held in conjunction with the Tennessee Mosquito and Vector Control Association’s Annual Meeting. Those entering this competition will present findings from their
- research. The competition will be extremely valuable in educating students and promoting student
involvement in TMVCA. Research regarding mosquitoes and other vectors, vector-borne diseases, their control and surveillance, and other arthropods that affect human or animal health may be presented. A total of 20 minutes will be allowed for each presentation (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q & A). Strict adherence to the allotted timeframe is required. Qualifications of the Applicant: Must be enrolled in a Tennessee undergraduate or graduate college/university program. Must provide a biography in the space provided on the application form. Must provide a letter of recommendation from advisor. Procedure for Filing an Application by January 31, 2014: Submit the completed application form along with a letter of recommendation from your advisor to TMVCA.

Applications are available at www.tennmosquito.org A limited number of presentation spaces are available. Therefore, the Association reserves the right to accept or reject any presentation and select presentations that would be of most interest to the conference attendees. Selected competitors will be provided complimentary meeting registration and 1 year membership. The winner will be announced during the meeting. Evaluation of Student Competition held on March 17, 2014 is based upon: Introduction (10 pts). Speaker’s Effectiveness (20 pts). Visual Aids (15 pts). Organization (35 pts). Discussion and Concluding Remarks (20 pts). Competitors should understand that the point awards are subjective. Three judges will attend presentations and assign scores. After the presentations the judges will confer and select one competitor to receive the TMVCA Student Competition Award. The winning student will receive $500. The winning abstract will be displayed on the TMVCA website. In addition, the student will be given the
- ption to speak at the next annual meeting to report any updates on their project.
