The AOP system is a flow through unit which uses innovating technology to sterilise water. WRAS approved, it kills all waterborne organisms, oxidises pollutants and offers significant advantages over conventional technologies.
Water to be treated passes through the AOP units as shown in Fig.1. Figure 1

UV light falling on the Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) inner coating, generates Hydroxyl Radicals (OH•) via catalytic oxidation. The combined effect of the catalytic oxidation and the hydroxyl radicals break down all microorganisms and organic pollutants in the water stream significantly better than standard UV. Due to their extreme reactivity OH• only exist for a few milliseconds (10-3s). Hence sterilisation takes place within the AOP unit itself with only sterile water being discharged. The Hydroxyl Radicals produced attack and break down the cell wall/membrane of any pathogens present.

Hydroxyl Radicals are one of the most powerful oxidising agents known. This is shown in Table 1, as is the redox potential of the catalytic oxidation itself. Table 1

The AOP System has been extensively tested by the Vitens Laboratory in Holland, the foremost water laboratory in Europe. Test results showed a Log Reduction in excess of 6 CFU for Legionella. The efficiency in kill rate is shown by the following graph. The graph also illustrates that even at twice the maximum flow rate the AOP Unit still achieved an efficiency rating of 100%.
