PROJECT MOMENTUM

Objective: Build a device that can propel a small object consistently using controlled amounts of mass and force.

Category Points Description Reliability 20 (1 pt. per toss) Device must be able to work 20 times without repair. 1 point per cycle. Variable Mass 5 The mass of the propelled device must be easily changed. Variable Force 5 The force of the propulsion must be easily changed. Distance Consistency 10 Device must be able to launch the same mass with the same force10 times with a variability of less than 10 percent. Scalability 10 Distance should be approximately double when force is doubled or mass is halved. Usability 10 Operation should be self-explanatory and simple. Mass and force should be stable for multiple launches. A user should easily be able to identify relative force for each launch.

THURSDAY, 2.7.2019

  • Find your seat and have your Mythbusters Worksheet out. Check with your

neighbor and compare your scientific process and video notes.

  • Today’s Plan:
  • Finish video.
  • Discuss results.
  • Kinetic games.
  • Review class grade progress.
  • Hand back tests.

THURSDAY, 2.7.2019

1. Continue working on your project momentum prototype with your group.

  • Remember, this is a prototype. It gives you a sense of size, materials, and operation. It does not

have to function.

2. As you build your prototype, check in with me for advice. 3. When you have the OK, you may begin building the working device.

FRIDAY, 2.8.2019

  • 1. Collect returned work.
  • 2. Put your stuff away.
  • 3. Be ready for directions.

MOMENTUM GAMES

THE SOONER YOU ARE READY,

THE MORE TIME YOU HAVE TO PLAY !!

slide-17
SLIDE 17

MARBLE SHOOTING

  • 1. Draw a circle 3 feet out of string.
  • 2. Choose your shooter marble.
  • This should be bigger than your other marbles
  • 3. Put 5 to 10 small marbles in the center of the ring.
  • 4. Take turns shooting. K
  • Kneel outside the ring and flick your shooter marble

with your thumb.

  • Try to hit as many marbles out of the ring as possible.
  • 5. If you knock any marbles out of the ring,

keep them and have another turn

  • 6. If you don’t knock any marbles out of the ring,

leave your shooter the ring until your next turn.

  • 7. Continue until the small marbles have been won.

The winner is the person with the most marbles at the end of the game – you can then return your marbles to each other.

MINI BOWLING

  • Set up your “pins” using the pattern on the paper.
  • Roll your “bowling ball” down the lane and

knock over as many pins as you can.

  • Reset and let the next bowler roll.
  • Highest score after 5 rounds wins.
slide-19
SLIDE 19

DOMINOES

  • Build the longest string of dominoes that you can!
  • Experiment with curves, hills, splits, and more……
  • Can you make them climb stairs?

BALLISTIC CARS

  • Roll the car and see if you can

make the ball land back in the car after it is fired.
