Unit 28 Inaccessible Areas • Extreme terrain within Unit 28 presented fieldwork challenges – Surface MEC Removal: 90 acres complete (12 acres inaccessible) – Digital Geophysical Mapping: 63 acres complete (39 acres inaccessible) 3
Unit 28 Sensitive Fuze Type Munitions • 119 sensitive fuze type munitions • Portion of the southern third of the unit recommended for additional evaluation (See Figure 6) 4
Unit 28 Joint Inspection Results • BLM-Army Joint Inspection performed July 2017 • Areas such as erosion features and Impossible Canyon Road reroute may require subsurface MEC removal 5
Technical Memorandum Summary • Remedial objectives have been met for Unit 28 • Likelihood of surface MEC remaining in inaccessible acreage is low • No additional surface MEC remediation is recommended • Recommended evaluation of potential for munitions with sensitive fuzes to remain in the shallow subsurface in Unit 28 “area of concern” • Unit 28 will be included in 2018 annual surface monitoring 6

Objectives • Comply with Track 3 ROD • Address potential changes in site conditions due to erosion • Monitor units/areas until vegetation growth is sufficient to minimize erosion 2
Procedures • Monitor one percent, at minimum of all units/areas in the program • Enhanced surface monitoring in all units/areas with high subsurface anomaly density and UXO with sensitive fuzes 3
