Pre-Game Teacher Concerns

  • When to start
  • How to introduce
  • How knowledgeable

do I have to be

  • Where can I get help
  • How much ‘tech’ is

involved

  • How often should we

play in class

  • How to incorporate it

with VE

What I Did What I’d do differently

When To Start

  • At least 2 weeks before
  • Frontloading with videos and

discussion

  • Resources from SMG:

Team Roles

Coming to a Consensus

Sector research

  • Incorporate SMG resources

into VE units from the start

  • f the year
  • Use my 2-week Teacher

session with the whole group (modeling)

  • These are great resources

to use a couple of weeks before the session starts

How I played with my class

  • Introduced SMG vocab weekly; they kept definitions in the folder
  • Used videos to introduce SMG concepts (In a Nutshell videos are great)
  • Whole group: checked out stocks on Google Finance.
  • Students started following companies on Google Finance (they should

have Google Accounts to do this. They can use Yahoo Finance as well)

  • Research Mutual Funds
  • Small group: research and complete worksheets from SMG resources.
  • Whole group: Debrief weekly, celebrate rankings.

What I would do differently

  • Take advantage of Investwrite volunteers, sign up early. I

already signed up for the fall.

  • Vocab quizzes to keep up with understanding, and make sure

everyone is on the same page

  • More fun team building, i.e.: marshmallow challenge was great
  • Stick to SMG day 1x per week (whether it's research, team

building, trading)
