Mike Becker, MD- Germany

Mike, after starting out in Haemato-Oncology, has been a clinical and research fellow in the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the Charité Medical Faculty in Berlin, Germany, since 2007. He earned a MSc degree by doing immunology research at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford University, UK. Alessia Alunno, MD- Italy

Alessia became a rheumatologist in 2012 and currently works as consultant and PhD candidate at the Rheumatology Unit, University of Perugia, Italy. Her research interest focuses on the role of T and B lymphocyte subsets in the pathogenesis of Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. Mary Canavan, PhD- Ireland

Mary is a postdoctoral research fellow within the Translational Rheumatology Research Group in St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin. She previously worked as a Research Assistant in the University of Pennsylvania before obtaining her PhD in Immunology from Dublin City University in

2012. Mary is interested in the immunopathology of rheumatoid arthritis with a specific interest in

dendritic cells and synovial fibroblasts. Current projects include examining the metabolic profile of these cells within the inflamed synovium. Christian is a rheumatology fellow and post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Internal Medicine 3, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (head: Georg Schett). Christelle Nguyen, MD PhD- France

Christelle is a rheumatologist, she obtained her MD in Paris in 2010, and went on to complete a PhD in Paris in 2015. She was a visiting scientist in the Division of Genomics of Development and Disease at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience in Brisbane, Australia, from 2013 to 2014. She is now Assistant Professor in the Rehabilitation Department of Cochin Hospital in Paris (Prof. Poiraudeau), and clinician scientist at INSERM UMR-S1124 (Prof. Rannou). John Pauling, MD PhD- United Kingdom

John is consultant rheumatologist at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University

f Bath. In 2009 he was awarded the Dando fellowship, jointly funded by the RSA and RCP.

His PhD research included validation studies of laser speckle contrast imaging and led to an interest in outcome measures in systemic sclerosis. John leads the RNHRD microvascular imaging service and is a member of the EULAR Microcirculation study group. He is contributing to current initiatives of the UK Scleroderma Study Group and the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium. THE EULAR POSTGRADUATE COURSE IN RHEUMATOLOGY

With its postgraduate course, EULAR seeks to update the professional knowledge of young rheumatologists from around the world, whilst giving the participants the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. THE EULAR REGISTERS AND OBSERVATIONAL DRUG STUDIES (RODS)

This open congress has the aim to discuss both practical and theoretical issues around running registers and longitudinal observational drug studies, generating output and understanding their

results. The annual / biennial meeting will provide an opportunity for networking and development of

international collaborative studies. It will furthermore explore issues throughout the lifespan of studies, from first thoughts around establishing a register, practicalities such as funding, bio-banking and informatics, through methods of data collection, opportunities for harmonizing practice, analysis methodology, to the interpretation and dissemination of results.
