What is Synchronous Online Learning ?

  • Live, interactive classes meeting

every period using CANVAS conferencing and other instructional tools

  • Students learn virtually while

teachers are teaching in live time

  • Virtual classes will meet at the

scheduled time

  • Students log into class during their

assigned period and teachers take attendance

  • Live, virtual structured support

periods have been built into the schedule.

Educational Choice A Synchronous Online Learning

Students would be engaging in Distance/Remote Learning and...

  • Logging on during the appropriate
  • period. A good choice for students

needing a schedule.

  • Attendance will be taken.
  • Teachers teaching in real time and

students at home would be logged in and participating remotely. (Synchronous Learning)

  • Live virtual teaching and learning.

A good choice for staying connected.

Educational Option B Independent Studies (IS)

The student will enroll directly in Independent Studies classes and be assigned an IS teacher.

  • Asynchronous Instruction. A good

choice for students needing flexibility, or who have work or family responsibilities.

  • Pre-recorded lessons.
  • Pacing set by instructor.
  • Edgenuity online courses.
  • Meet with IS teacher min. 1x/week

for 1:1 virtual meeting and to coordinate assessments.

Dual Enrollment Concurrent Enrollment

  • Students may take classes through California

Community College for Graduation credit

  • Students should indicate on their survey that they wish

to drop a course with SMUHSD as they will be enrolling in the Community College to meet their graduation requirement ○ Courses should be pre-approved to ensure that student continues to be on track for graduation ○ Students may take up to 40 credits for Graduation Credit outside of SMUHSD over four-year career

  • Students/Families are encouraged to attend one of two

zoom sessions to learn more about the ofgerings available through the Community College and how to enroll

August 4th at 5pm via zoom. Link will be made

available on the District website soon

  • Courses will appear as out-of-district courses on the

SMUHSD transcript upon submission of the transcript at the conclusion of the semester (as appropriate)

  • Community College Courses are free for high school

students - fewer than 11 units

Physical Education

Physical Education in the 9th and 10th grades is a graduation requirement.

  • Since we are starting in Phase

1, no classes will take place on campus. PE-Remotely

  • Use of PLT4M program in

addition to adapting current units and lessons

Sports

December 1 or January 1 start date, combining fall and winter sports has been proposed, so there will be Season 1 and Season 2. Season 1: Cross Country, Football, Water Polo, Volleyball Season 2: February 22:Badminton, Soccer, Tennis. March 8: Swimming March 15: Wrestling, Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Track & Field, Softball, Cheer

All athletes need to be sure to complete the clearance

  • process. Athletes may participate in more than one

sport per season.

Supply distribution

Tentative Distribution dates

  • August 4th and 11th- Freshmen
  • August 5th and 12th-Sophomores
  • August 6th and 13th-Juniors
  • August 7th and 14th-Seniors

First date is for technology (all chromebooks were sanitized and disinfected in June) and Student IDs. Students will be given temporary IDs and the opportunity to get a photo ID. Second date is for textbooks and other classroom materials, such as art, science kits.
