Findings

Secondary students are:

  • Getting more sleep, 15 - 30 minutes on average
  • Going to bed at about the same time as before the change
  • Sleeping later
  • Largest positive effect - 7th and 8th graders

Data suggests:

  • Some students may be more alert and less sleepy in class
  • Some students may be staying up later

Measures of Improvement

  • Data will need at least another year of evaluation to determine possible

positive effects

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Findings

Parent Feedback

  • Most Parents who provided feedback have appreciated the change for their

students and families; children seem less sleepy and more relaxed in the morning.

  • A small percentage report that they have not seen noticable differences.
  • Other parents stated that they prefer the old schedule based on family

schedules and because they are not seeing positive effects from the change.

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Findings Staff Feedback

  • In a limited staff response rate:
  • Some staff have appreciated the change for their students; students

seem less sleepy and more relaxed in the morning.

  • Some staff have not seen positive effects for students and have not liked

the schedule change based on their family schedules and/or a later end time negatively impacting student after school schedules.

  • Elementary staff are requesting later bus arrivals in the morning; we are

adjusting.

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Findings Many students are getting more sleep, however, on average

  • ur high school students’ nightly sleep quantity still falls

below the amount recommended by the American Academy

  • f Pediatrics and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine:

8 - 10 hours is the recommendation

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Findings Good News:

  • Most of our Middle School students are now in the 8 - 10

hour range!

  • All of our secondary students, on average, moved closer

to the recommended range!
