Entry Requirements - BScN and BScM

  • Aggregate score of C plain in KCSE or Division II in KCE.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and hold a current

practice license and of good standing.

  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of practice experience.
  • Must be a holder of a diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health

Nurse (KRCHN) or a diploma Kenya Registered Nurse (KRN) and Kenya Registered Midwife (KRM) - (KRN and KRM) from a recognized training institution.

  • You have to fill out an application form, complete and sign it; and submit it along

with certified copies of your:

  • KCSE or KCE certificate
  • Diploma in Nursing certificate
  • Diploma in Nursing transcript
  • Certificate of enrolment/registration with Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Letter of release/recommendation from current employer
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • A non-refundable application fee of Ksh. 3,000/-

Philosophy of the program

We believe that:

  • Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) is an advanced practice programme that provides

primary, acute and specialty care across the lifecycle through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and injuries

  • APN nurses require expert knowledge, complex decision-making skills and clinical

competencies to appropriately respond to the 21st century health needs

  • The APN nurse is responsible for diagnosing, prescribing, undertaking a wide range of

procedures, develop and lead whole services, consulting, ethical decision-making, case management and leadership in delivering safe care to patients and their families.

  • Each patient has the right to receive care based on his/her personal preferences and

must be cared for with an appreciation of his or her wholeness, integrity, and relation to family and environment

  • The APN will effectively and efficiently work in various healthcare settings collaborating

with a multidisciplinary team to provide the highest quality of care

  • Lifelong learning and the spirit of enquiry are essential for the APN nurse to enhance

professional competencies and to advance nursing practice

Expected learning outcomes (APN)

  • Adopt a scientific, deliberate approach to advanced nursing practice and

clinical scholarship to improve the health and health care of individuals, groups and populations, with special emphasis on rural and vulnerable populations

  • Integrate advanced skills in communication, critical thinking, translational

research and nursing practice to address the quality of health and safety of healthcare delivery to individuals, groups and populations

  • Apply the advanced practice nursing roles as practitioner, leader,

innovator, clinical scholar, healthcare advocate and collaborator to address the current and future health and healthcare delivery needs at the individual, group, population and system level

  • Demonstrate advanced practice leadership through the incorporation of

ethical, cultural, social, political and economic strategies to transform health systems

completed an undergraduate degree programme.

  • Upper Second-class honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average

(GPA) of 3.00 on a four-point scale; OR

  • Lower Second-class honors or a cumulative Grade Point Average

(GPA) of 2.50 on a four-point scale with additional relevant training, evidence

research capability through either research, paper presentations or peer reviewed publications and relevant working experience.

  • Certified official academic transcripts from your nursing training institution. All

documents must be in A4 size; if a copy of the transcript is not available, a certified letter from your training institution may be uploaded;

Kenya (NCK);

  • A copy of your Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or Kenya

candidates who may have documents pending to be submitted including reference letters or transcripts.
