SATISFACTORY PROGRESS

In order to remain in the PhD or MFA program, all students must maintain good academic standing which includes the following:

  • GPA – Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Enrollment of Units – Students must maintain continuous

registration (at least 12 units) each quarter throughout graduate career

  • Normative Time to Degree – Students must advance to

candidacy and complete the degree within the limitations established per their program. A student exceeding the maximum time may not be able to receive University resources (e.g., financial aid, TA-ships, housing, etc.)

GRADING

  • Acceptable grades are: A+ through B and “S”
  • Always choose “Grade Option” – “P” / “NP”

courses will not count toward graduate course (200+) requirements

  • Grade Reports – Check your transcript!
  • Incomplete (I)
  • SOH Policy requires all Incomplete grades to be

changed by August 31 to receive funding.

  • No Report (NR)
  • Withdrawal (W)

FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT

  • 12 units MINIMUM
  • 16 units MAXIMUM
  • 17+ units – Email Graduate Coordinator
  • Students must register in at least 12 units before fee

payment deadline in order for fees to be paid

  • Teaching Assistants/Associates (TA) must enroll in 399:

University Teaching units under the appropriate department/program
