Students on Scholarship must perform teaching duties to fulfil the Scholarship requirements. Work done should not exceed 10 hours a week. If the total required hours are not met by the time the thesis is submitted for examination, the Scholar will have his/her transcript (both unofficial and official), student status letter, conferment letter and degree scroll (for graduating student) withheld until the fulfilment of the requirement.

Optional Research Assistant (RA) Duties 1. After fulfilling the mandatory teaching hours, students may also use research duties to fulfil the GAP Hours. 2. No preparation time is to be clocked in this assignment. 3. The RA duty should go beyond the scope of the research project undertaken by the student to fulfil the requirement of the Post Graduate Research programme. Optional Other Developmental Assignments (ODA) 1. After fulfilling the mandatory teaching hours, students may also use other developmental assignments to fulfil the GAP Hours. 2. ODA includes assistance with conferences/seminars, administrative duties etc. 3. A brief description of the work done should be provided. 4. The Assistant Chair’s endorsement is required for work done under this category.

‘to use or pass off as one’s own, writings or ideas of another, without acknowledging or crediting the source from which the ideas are taken’.

  • Academic Fraud

A form of academic dishonesty involving cheating, lying and stealing.

  • Facilitating Academic Dishonesty

This includes allowing another student to copy an assignment that is supposed to be done individually, allowing another student to copy answers during an examination/assessment and taking an examination/assessment or doing an assignment for another student.

A full-time research student may be granted leave subject to satisfactory academic progress of the student and approval of the School.

It will be the responsibility of the students to ensure that

  • 1. They have made covering arrangement for their teaching duties/assignments
  • 2. They are not required to attend any courses during the leave period
  • 3. In times of emergency, they shall keep their supervisors informed within 24

hours

  • 4. They shall report to their supervisors immediately after their return from leave
  • 5. Full Time students must apply for vacation leave if they are travelling overseas

for personal reasons. They will be subject to disciplinary action if they fail to do so.

The above amounts allocated are for both overseas research attachments and overseas conference leave. Funding applications are subject to availability of funding.

Overseas Research / Conference Leave Application Subject to Supervisor’s and Assistant Chair (Graduate Education)’s approvals Criteria for Funding Application Must present a paper Who Can Apply for Funding? Students on NTU Research Scholarship When to submit application? 6 weeks before departure. Application form should be complete with Supervisor and Head’s approvals Who Can Apply for Overseas Conference Leave or Overseas Research Attachment without Funding? Otherwise, they will take a long table while waiting for a cubicle to be freed up.  Here are a list of items provided for all our Graduate Students: › Dedicated office for Graduate Students accessible only by student card › Shared Photocopier › Shared Network Printer › Pedestal drawer/Lockers for Storage › Discussion Room › Pantry  Print and Photocopy limit – per candidature › MA (Print – 7,000 pages, Photocopy – 3,000 pages) › PhD (Print – 20,000 pages, Photocopy – 8,000 pages)

Compulsory Precautionary Measures

 Hand sanitisers are available at the doors, you are advised to sanitise your hands every time you enter or leave the office.  Wear a mask at all times to suppress transmission and save lives.  Use the SafeEntry and NTU QR Code to check-in and check-out to facilitate contact tracing when necessary.  Maintain safe distancing of at least 1-metre apart for all activities.  See a doctor if unwell, especially those with fever or respiratory symptoms (such as cough or runny nose).  When dining-in at food courts, canteens and F&B outlets, adhere strictly to the 1-metre rule between each patron.  Give your full cooperation to our safe distancing ambassadors.
