  18. OPPORTUNITIES - SAUCON VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

  19. OPPORTUNITIES - SAUCON VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Master schedule changes that allow more time for ELA and Math in 3rd and 4th Grade and the addition of full day Kindergarten Aligning of times and grade level classes to create better utilization of staff Ability of specialized staff to push-in, pull-out and consult based on student need - ELL, Special Education, Reading Specialist, Gifted, Speech, OT, Counselors Elementary reading specialist and special education teachers are providing Orton-Gillingham as a targeted intervention Instructional coaches for literacy and math K-12 Continued Professional Development Units of Study Reading and Writing - Everyday Mathematics Updated resources ELA: Superkids - Kindergarten through fourth, Units of Study Reading and Writing, Words their Way Everyday Math EDM4, On-line home-links, Continental Math League and Hands on Equations Science - Engineering in Education - STEM and tie in to Environmental Center Flexible Math Grouping - pilot in 1st grade 2015-2016 and now expanded to grades 1-4 Progress Monitoring NWEA - Map Grades 1-4 Dibels KEI - Kindergarten Entry Inventory Standards Based Progress Reports, Parent Reports and rubrics to provide more detailed and specific information for instruction and student mastery of standards and eligible content

  20. OPPORTUNITIES - SAUCON VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL . . The current 7 th and 8 th were not always tested using the current PA Common Core Math Standards (2015, 2016). The implementation of the Standards was not done when these students were in grades K-6. Some changes in staff have assisted students in making gains in grades 5 & 6 PSSA and Keystone Standards w/accelerated students We have implemented compressed grade level Math courses to provide opportunities for the students that can manage Math concepts at an accelerated rate beginning in grade 5. We have also combined grade levels of students in accelerated classes (7 & 8 graders in Algebra classes). For the current 2016-17 school year we have been able to combine students to allow for an additional full class period to place current 8th grade students (last year's 7th grade) that scored BB or B in a Math support class to provide these at risk students (18) with a"double" Math class. This is similar to what we have done with LA classes. Part of the expectation in this class is INDIVIDUAL CONFERRING with students and teacher to set goals and review data with students. Math Support intervention during Extension Period has been strategically arranged to provide services and instruction for students scoring Below Basic Basic (118 students) by grade level with Math teachers. We use a variety of intervention resources including Study Island and Khan Academy, both of which are able to be accessed from home. We have added Academic Support classes for our most at-risk students identified with special education needs to more strategically provide instruction at their current academic level. On-going progress monitoring assessments include – Scholastic Math Inventory (for our most at-risk learners) NWEA MAP (universal, 3 times/year) Slossen (special education students)

  21. OPPORTUNITIES - SAUCON VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL New program (Springboard) implemented in ELA across grades 6-8 with ongoing conversations and collaboration with staff. ZINC learning labs embedded in the program provide additional resources. Students have been strategically assigned Reading Support intervention during Extension Period in order to provide services and instruction for students scoring Below Basic/Basic (students) by grade level with LA teachers. We use a variety of intervention resources including Study Island and NEWSELA, both of which are able to be accessed from home. Elementary reading specialists are providing Orton-Gillingham instruction with selected students during Extension Period. Continued implementation of the ELA2 classes (grades 7 & 8 to provide "double" ELA for students scoring BB/B. We have added Academic Support classes for our most at-risk students identified with special education needs to more strategically provide instruction at their current academic level. On-going progress monitoring assessments include – Scholastic Reading Inventory (for all of our learners) NWEA MAP (universal, 3 times/year) Qualitative Reading Inventory (QRI) and Developmental Reading Inventory (DRA) to provide comprehension and fluency data

  22. OPPORTUNITIES - SAUCON VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL • Triangulate data, including AP Potential data to encourage students to take AP Courses. • Using the MAP Learning Continuum to meet students at their ready to learn level and move them academically. • Looking to add additional AP Courses next year. • Developing a schedule that allows increase access by students to AP courses and courses relevant to their college and career choices.
