SLIDE 13 Sulfur and Boron
Sulfur is important for:
- Protein formation
- Nodulation
- Proper maturity
- Seed and oil yields
- Nitrogen metabolism
- Soil microbial activity
- Helps release B & Mg from soil for plant
uptake
Boron is important for:
- Plant hormones
- Nitrogen fixation in nodules
- Pollen viability and flower and pod
development
- Structural integrity of plant membranes
– growing points
SLIDE 14 Protocol – Soybean Nitrogen/Sulfur Trial
- Second year of the experiment with 16 sites across the Maritimes
- Treatments: No sulfur or nitrogen, 30lbs/acre sulfur + no nitrogen,
30lbs/acre sulfur + 30lbs/acre nitrogen, 30lbs/acre sulfur + 60lbs/acre nitrogen
- All sulfur applied in sulfate form
- Initial Results, no statistical analysis completed yet
- Minimum 1 acre plots with 0.25 acres harvested
