  12. Sulfur and Boron Sulfur is important for: • Protein formation • Nodulation • Proper maturity • Seed and oil yields • Nitrogen metabolism • Soil microbial activity • Helps release B & Mg from soil for plant uptake Boron is important for: • Plant hormones • Nitrogen fixation in nodules • Pollen viability and flower and pod development • Structural integrity of plant membranes – growing points

  13. Protocol – Soybean Nitrogen/Sulfur Trial • Second year of the experiment with 16 sites across the Maritimes • Treatments: No sulfur or nitrogen, 30lbs/acre sulfur + no nitrogen, 30lbs/acre sulfur + 30lbs/acre nitrogen, 30lbs/acre sulfur + 60lbs/acre nitrogen • All sulfur applied in sulfate form • Initial Results, no statistical analysis completed yet • Minimum 1 acre plots with 0.25 acres harvested

  18. PEAS

  19. Protocol – Peas Gypsum Sulfur Trial • Trial had 2 sites in PEI and 2 sites in NB • Researching the use of gypsum as a source of sulfur • Treatments: no sulfur; 0.5 tonnes/acre of Gypsum/23% Ca/18% S • Initial results (statistical analysis not yet completed) • Minimum 1 acre plots with 0.25 acres harvested

  20. Peas Gypsum Trial 2019 Yield Results

  21. Protocol – Peas Seeding Rate Trial • First year of trial with 1 location in PEI and 2 location in NB • Treatments: 75 seeds/m 2 , 90-100 seeds/m 2 , 125 seeds/m 2 • First year of data collection, no statistical analysis • Minimum 1 acre plots with 0.25 acres harvested

  23. OATS

  24. Protocol – Oats Nitrogen Fungicide Trial • 2 sites in NB with 2 varieties (Nicholas and Camden) • Purpose is to measure effects on yield of nitrogen amount, fungicide and growth regulator. • Nitrogen treatments – 45 lbs/ac nitrogen, 45lbs + 20 lbs topdress and 45lbs + 40 lbs topdress. • Growth regulator – 45lbs/ac + 40lbs topdress • Fungicide treatments vs. no fungicide • Minimum 1 acre plots
