  1. Interaction of new generation fungicides with the APR genes Yr18 and Yr29 for the control of stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici) Nick Poole & Dr Karanjeet Sandhu March ACRCP meeting 2015 (Corrected to take account of DNA confirmation) ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  2. Objectives 1. Evaluate the influence of Yr18 alone and in combination with Yr29 for control of stripe rust. 2. To determine the influence of fungicide application on cultivars and Near Isogenic Lines (NIL) protected by these genes. 3. To examine whether newer generation fungicides associated with physiological greening would benefit cultivars protected by Yr18 and Yr18+29 genes. ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  3. Trial set up 1.Cultivar (Near Isogenic Lines in an Avocet background) – sown May 13 - Avocet S – no APR protection - Avocet NIL + Yr18 - Avocet NIL + Yr18+29 (repeated twice) 2. Four fungicide treatments plus untreated - Untreated - Opus 125SC 250ml/ha (epoxiconazole) GS31 & 45/49 - Folicur 430SC 145ml/ha (tebuconazole) GS31 & 45/49 - Radial 420ml/ha (epoxiconazole + azoxystrobin GS31 & 45/49 - FAR F1/14 (epoxiconazole + SDHI) GS31 & 45/49 ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  4. Influence of Yr18 & 29 in the untreated crop – GS59 Active Stripe rust (%LAI) Stripe rust induced necrosis (%LAI) ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  5. Influence of Yr APR genes and fungicide treatment – GS69-71 Active Stripe rust (%LAI) Stripe rust induced necrosis (%LAI) ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  6. Influence of Yr APR genes and fungicide treatment on GLR – GS69-71 Evidence of increased Green Leaf Retention (GLR) with fungicide however only statistically significant in Avocet S and NIL+Yr18 ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING

  7. Influence of Yr APR genes and fungicide treatment on grain yield (t/ha) - Significant interaction (p<0.001) between “cultivar” and fungicide application - Significant yield response to Fungicide – Avocet S and NIL+Yr18 - No significant yield response to Fungicide – NIL+Yr18+29 ADDING VALUE TO THE BUSINESS OF ARABLE FARMING
