Chairman’s Report
The 2010-11 season been a great year for the club with the planning permission for the 8 pitches at Chichester, the club finally has a home that we can improve year on year giving the Children a facility that is safe and hopefully playing surfaces that will enhance their
which although again was requested for refusal by Rawreth Parish Council the real coun- cillors of Rochford District Council again saw the sense in providing these facilities and unanimously approved. So now when your child plays football you can now use the toilet facilities and get a warm drink or food from our café, none of this is available at any of the parks we previously used and we are getting many envious comments from other clubs who wish they had these facilities. Like most things the whole site has been set up by vol- unteers and I would like to thank the following who have driven this project and put in hours of work to achieve this in an extremely short time: Darren Deal, Jim Cripps, Neil Smith, Richard McMeakin, Neil Kirsh, Mark Chapman, Colin Norfolk, Dave Barker, Ivor Knight and Chris Hockett. Many others have put in work but these guys have dedicated endless hours to the cause and the club is truly thankful to everybody who has helped in any way. Our second milestone for the year was to achieve FA Charter Standard Community Status which makes us one of only a few in Essex to achieve this and certainly the largest Club to be awarded this accolade. This award, the highest given out by the FA commends us on how we run the club and confirms we have the systems and people in place to deliver a safe environment for children’s football. The award will be presented at our presentation by Mark Francois MP for Rochford and Wickford who has been a great supporter of our club’s aims at Chichester. This year has seen unprecedented growth in our club with an adult section being formed with 3 Teams playing in Saturday leagues with a lot of the players being ex Rayleigh Boys
King Georges Playing Field teeming with 5, 6 and 7 year olds starting off with the Club. This coming year we are taking 4 under 11 teams into 11 a side the most we have had be- fore and a few of the “old boys” in the club are forming a veterans team so that should keep Southend A and E busy.! On the field it has been one of the most successful years I can remember with our Under 16 A team reaching the County Cup Final and this team and the Under 14 A both getting to the league finals at Roots Hall again this has never hap- pened before where we have 2 teams in the finals, good luck to all of you. We have a lot
Rayleigh FC are about development and not winning at all costs. We are working in Chil- dren’s football and we should also all applaud the teams that do not often win but turn out in rain, snow and wind every week to train and play in the hope they can improve and we should always remember that those Children want to win as much as any others. Subse- quently we need to work with them to give them the best possible training to fulfil their
are all one big team across the club. For the coming year we are looking to increase fund raising within the club to support the equipment required at Chichester and more importantly in the current economic climate not to increase registrations. In my 6 years as chairman we have not increased our registra- tions which is a record I am truly proud of. We as a club have been subjected to the same cost of living increases as yourselves but sound management of our accounts by Margaret Cook and Clare Rankin Maclean and the funds raised from the quiz and comedy nights, the continued support we get from kit sponsors and the 100 Club all helps to keep the reg- istrations at the same level.

Chairman’s Report cont.
We will review in June at our AGM the levels of registrations but I hope we can keep them the same for another year or two but a lot will depend on the support we get for our fundraising
no child should be excluded from youth football because of cost. As normal I cannot write this without mentioning the club’s committee This year has seen 1 new member to the committee, Dave Barker. His enthusiasm and efforts are already being seen within the club. Whilst on the subject of the committee, I would like to thank all the committee mem- bers for their support with keeping the club running, some of whom do not now have children playing for the club. As I always do I would like to mention a couple of committee members Neil Kirsh (Publicity Officer) who has worked tirelessly in trying to improve communication through the Website and Newsletter and along with Dave Barker and Rob Smith has been the driving forces behind the goalkeeper training which has been well received. Paul Quick and Colin Norfolk (Our two welfare officers). Colin who have made great strides in getting our CRB and Coaching qualifications up to date which is an endless job and Paul who always deals with any concern or child protection issues with the utmost professionalism and always put the needs
structured committee with a mixture of youth, enthusiasm and experience. (I am not saying who comes into each category but needless to say the ladies all come under youth.) I am sorry to say we are losing three committee members this year, Shane Bird who is leaving to pursue other youth Football, Paul Sims (Adult Secretary) and Rob Smith who is leaving after 9 years because
them leave and wish them every success in the future. Anybody who wants to try and make a difference to the club or wants to share their skills can join the club committee, no special train- ing is required all that is needed is enthusiasm and a will to want to see the club improve. Please contact any of the committee members if you are interested. Well done to all the managers, coaches and volunteers throughout the club for their hard work and commitment to their teams and the children. We would not survive without you all. Finally, well done to all the children, who have played their hearts out for Rayleigh FC this Year. Remember win or lose always play fair and respect your opponents, and most of all enjoy it. Have a great summer, and look forward to a new and even more enjoyable season in the autumn. Martin Shields Chairman

Squad – Lily-Rose Bird, Ellie Slater, Hollie Wale, Katie Lee, Abena Oteng, Tabitha Esqualant, Grace Green, Santae Bell, Emily Glaze, Natasha Green. This season we took girls from Downhall and Grove Primary schools running sessions on a Monday evening at Sweyne Park School. The enthusiasm the girls showed and how the gelled as a group has been fantastic to see. They have all applied themselves so well I have been able to challenge them at every opportunity, their progress collectively and individually has followed a steep development curve. To be honest these have been some of the most enjoya- ble and rewarding sessions I have taken. We entered the Thundermite Girls Development League pitching ourselves against well estab- lished teams with players who had a few seasons under their belt. Our first match against Leigh Celtic over at Grove was a fantastic occasion, the touchline was packed and noisy with
Leigh Celtic half, the only downside was not being able to score the goals our play deserved. However Lily-Rose Bird did score our first ever goal with a close range left foot strike which ignited the crowd into a frenzy and players and manager performing a funky chicken dance. The girls had a great time enjoying every bit of the experience even though we did finish on the losing side. But hey they had the bug! Further games were played in Thurrock, Basildon and Rayleigh, our highlight being avenging that first match defeat to Leigh Celtic when we again dominated the game with some fantastic play but this time we scored the goals missing from the first game. Goals from Holly Wale, Ellie Slater and Katie Lee made this a one sided affair and showed how much all the girls have developed. I look forward to next season, working with this group as they are a fun bunch to be around and seeing the progress made thus far along with their potential is so rewarding. All of the girls have made new friends and have had positive experiences, which is what it is about. Well done girls, roll on next season! Yours in Sport Shane

What an excellent 1st season we have had, the boys have all worked very hard individually and col- lectively they have become a strong team. We are now seeing the benefits of what the boys have learnt in training transferred onto the pitch. All games played have been exciting to watch whilst
Jack Hayes (Goalkeeper) – Jack’s confidence and goal keeping skills have grown considerably throughout the season and he has turned into a great shot stopper. Now much braver, more aware and developing in a great goalkeeper. Additionally Jack has kept 4 clean sheets this season. Well done Oliver Crickmay (Defender) – Ollie has grown into a solid defender and has a great partnership with Matthew. Strong in a tackle and has a great awareness of the game together with contributing 2 goals this season. Ollie also has an excellent attitude in training and a great team player. Good 1st season Matthew Field (Defender) – Together with Ollie, Matthew is another strong individual that gets stuck in and not afraid of his opponents. Matthew has good strength and timing when clearing the
move up to U8’s next season, well done Matthew Morgan Thomas (Midfield) – Morgan has grown in confidence over the season and is develop- ing into a good player, Morgan has good ball skills and over recent games is getting more involved in the game together with greater determination in tackling to obtain procession. A good 1st season for Morgan. Max Martin (Midfield) – Max is a pleasure to coach and transfers his learning from training into the game, a little battler who has a good appreciation of the game who finds good space on the
Nathan Harlow (Midfield) – Nathan joined the team at the start of the season; Nathan is a very keen & enthusiastic individual who always wants to do well. Nathan has contributed 2 goals this season and we wish him well for next season with his new Rayleigh Boys team. Josh Oteng (Midfield) – Josh is a very good all round player. Josh has played in defence / mid- field and also in the striker’s position and has achieved well in all positions. Josh has great speed with the ball together with clinical finishing. Josh has contributed 5 goals this season. A great 1st season by Josh. Lewis Connett – (Midfield) – Lewis has commanded the central midfield position very well; Lewis has demonstrated strong tackling together with great energy and determination together with fine finishing. Lewis is our top scorer with 6 goals. A great opening season for Lewis, well done. Ethan Arnold – (Striker) – Ethan has had a good opening season and like Josh has played in defence and midfield also. A good play maker who has set up several goals for his team mates when he could have taken on the opportunity himself. Ethan’s knowledge of the game has grown also with some excellent passing manoeuvres. Ethan has contributed 5 goals this season, well done Son you now just need to work on your goal celebrations!!! Sam Hayden – (Striker) – Sam joined us in February and we are already seeing his potential. Sam has good dribbling ability and has already contributed 2 goals this season. Sam works hard in training and we are looking forward to seeing him grow with the team when we move up to U8’s next season. Great effort Sam I would like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the year from getting the boys to training, match venues and putting up the goals. The Boys have had a cracking season this year, their first year together as a team. Mark and I have tried hard all sea- son to get them to pass the football and to play as a team and not worry so much about the result, they are all trying their best to do this. They all get along well with each other and their improvement as a team (and individually) has been amazing. I speak for Mark, the parents and everybody involved with the team when I say thanks to all the boys for their contribution this year and I look forward to next sea- son already! Gary

Its hard to imagine its 9 months a go we started our first season as Rayleigh Boys U7 Leopards. Our pre Christmas games were a mixed set of results, the boys played with enthusiasm and pas- sion and loved playing football even if we won or lost. We won one, drew one and lost 3 games. Since January the boys have continued to improve with two wins and three defeats. The boys have come so far this season, and it is great to see them all develop as players. We are very proud of our boys for the way they have played this season, for never giving up and playing with so much heart. Paul and I have learnt a lot from our first season as managers of the Leopards and we are looking forward to next season as mangers of the U8 Leopards. We would like to thank James for all his help with training on Saturdays and on match days and wish him and the Pumas well for next season. We would like to thank Beth for all her help dealing with the Leopard’s accounts, which she set up and manages for us. We would finally like to thank Alan for refereeing our home games and Brian for all the help he has given to us in our first season as managers. In our first season all the boys have developed extremely well and most importantly left the pitch with a smile. After a couple of tough games, losing 3 – 0 and 4-1 the boys kept their confidence and won their next match 5 – 1 against Hawkwell Tigers. This win gave the boys confidence and the next two games they fought back from behind to level the scores and against the run of play although they lost both matches with literally the last kick of the game. We then had the disruption of the bad weather and after playing our last game in November we returned to play a very strong Great Wakering side in January losing 6 – 0. Our next game against Catholic was an evenly matched game until the last 5 minutes, where the heavy condi- tions saw us conceding three late goals. This match was then followed closely by a 1 – 0 loss against Leigh Rockets. Despite these losses the boys remained enthusiastic, and this paid off with a 2-1 win against Hawkwell Tigers, a well deserved win. I am very proud of what the boys have achieved this season and it is has been very rewarding to see them developing their game as individuals and as team, playing passing football and enjoying
dedicated members of the team. I look forward to next season and am confident we will improve and develop further. Finally, a big thank you to Shane, Jack, Lewis and the team at Academy Soccer for their help in coaching the boys and also to Alan for refereeing our home games. Dan Athol Manager

SQUAD James Hardcastle , Fabien Hedges , Andrew Lee , Ryan Minney , Connor Polyblank , Owen Strangwick, James Bumpus, Leo Cottage It’s been a really enjoyable first season – watching the boys gel into a team, and improve as players. From a results point of view, I guess things could have gone better but they say it’s the taking part that counts and I can certainly say that each and every player has certainly taken part - everyone has played in at least three posi- tions and in some cases all four, goalkeeper, defender, midfield and striker! I think they call this total football in Holland! Onwards and upwards for next season... Glen This team were registered very late into the season and were then hit with a long lay off due to lack of pitches due to severe rain. They have only played a handful of games against opposition who have much more game time under their belts. That said they show no less enthusiasm than any other players I have seen and they compete from the first whistle to the last. I am very proud
Well done boys! Yours in Sport, Shane.

Wow well that was quite a season!! Our little team have yet again both delighted and frustrated Les and I over this past season with all its ups and downs being evident in several new grey hairs for the management !! We started off wining our first 3 games, including a very satisfying 3/2 victory against Essex Royals and a thumping of Ashingdon Boys. Then came the bump !! Despite grabbing a very honourable draw against Beech after being 1/4 down to come back to grab a very unlikely draw exemplified the "never say die" attitude which our team have in abundance!! We seemed to become the draw specialists with draws against both Chalvedon and Canvey , although it has to be said Canvey had won every other game and we were by far the best team on the day. Then the day that had to come a 0/4 home reverse against a team that we had already beaten that season ie Essex Royals, a total cliché, but we had to put this
Frustratingly, we had to wait nearly two months for the chance to bounce back with weath- er and Xmas break playing havoc with the games. But come back we did with a marvellous 4/1 victory against the Tigers!! Draws against Ramblers victory vs Chalvedon and two losses against Dark Lane (Frightened of the big kid syndrome confirmed our downfall in both these games ). Then after a training session that we spent 1/2 an hour just talking to the kids, the best performance of the season thumping Essex Royals 3/1 after being 1/0 down in less than a minute, all the kids were outstanding!! At time of writing we still have 4 outstanding fixtures this season and Les and I are sure the kids can build on what they have already achieved and are turning into a really good team. From the keeper to the centre forward ALL the kids have been a credit to their families and training and managing them has been a privilege we look forward to continue in the years to come. Finally, a big thank you to all"our parents". Never once have I been concerned about trouble on the sideline or been moaned at for the way we train and play the games just support and encouragement. We will continue to be as fair as we can with kids and will strive to make them enjoy their football!!! The boy’s have had an excellent year, not only in terms of the results; which they have thor-
have carried them out with and the enjoyment they have had doing so. Rory and Charlie joined the team at the start of the season and have not only added to the quality of the team but fitted straight in as if they had been playing since we started. The first half of the year, the boy’s enjoyed and experienced winning nearly every week and scoring some amazing goals through excellent team play and individual talent winning 7 out of 8 of the games along the way and scoring 36 goals. It was evident by the winter break that the boys deserved to be playing in a higher division, and so were promoted at the start of 2011. This change in quality of opposition immediately led to the boy’s development in a whole new way; physically and emotionally. Learning to play more as a team whilst attacking and de- fending, looking to change tactics in different situations, having to keep going and maintain concentration for the whole game, experience losing when we were truly beaten by the better team or the frustration when they could not understand how they lost. However, they proved that they were more than deserving of playing at this level winning 4, drawing 4 and losing 3 by the end of the season and scoring another 39 goals along the way. But throughout the entire season the things that have been constant is the passion for foot- ball, the commitment to learn and the positive attitude of each and everyone of the boy’s. We would like to thank you all for your support as parents because without you this would not be possible; ensuring that the boys get to training and matches on time and supporting them on match days with your extended families in many cases. It is for these reasons that it is easy and a pleasure for Dave and I to get out every weekend and be part of this team and feel extremely proud of what we are achieving. Although we are all looking forward to a break after what has been a very long season and a considerable number of matches, secretly I know we are all looking forward to next season and watching

This season has been an absolute pleasure for me as manager to see the boys apply what they have been learning in training and watch them go from strength to strength. Their improvement has been nothing short of outstanding. To be honest I don’t think any of us ever wanted this season to end!!!The team have gelled as a unit and we play with passion and desire; everyone puts 100% effort into their performance, I really couldn’t ask for anymore then that. They all go above and beyond their individual roles the camaraderie and respect for each other is overwhelming and is rare to see this ma- turity at such a young age. They are all a credit to this football club and there parents, the sense of pride when they pull that orange shirt on is clear to see, the smiles on their faces and there attitude get the coaches and supporters buzzing on match day. Our results speak volumes we have beaten every team in both the divisions convincing- ly and we are hungry for some better opposition. We are simply technically too good and physically too strong for every team that has been put in front of us we had a run
till next season, we aim to build on the great team we have now, hopefully we won’t lose anyone as we have 6 players in professional academies, Southend, West Ham and Leyton Orient I will beat any wage offers boys! I want to say a big thank you to all our supporters you have been awesome your passion is unmatched and the atmosphere you create really lifts us all. You drown out any other teams support, which gives us the physiological edge Dean and Ade Assistant Coaches/Managers : This wouldn’t have been possible without you whether its been refereeing a game, words of wisdom in a match talk or saving my bacon when I’ve gone AWOL (twice) you guys have held it to- gether and I, the Players and the supporters respect you. Alan It has been a season of highs and not so highs for the boys and it has been a pleasure to again be in-
established at under 7 level. A close first game away to Trinity (that ball was never over the line) was the start of a run of very good hard fought matches in which only the odd goal separated the teams. This series of games culminated in a match against Elmwood Colts, who had been beating all before them which we narrowly lost 4-3 and all with only 6 players. The effort and commitment shown by the boys was immense and worthy of a better scoreline. This was mid November and because of the weather we did not play again until mid January.
Since the resumption of the league we lost 3 players but eventually gained 2 so although we were a little disjointed for a while the boys are again showing great potential and seem to be really enjoying their football. I would like to thank Shane Bird and the coaches at Academy Soccer for their skill, devotion and commitment to the boys, all the parents who commit their time and energy in all weathers and finally the players. So thank you Nathan, Sacha, Liam, Elliott, Ben, Sean, Luke and Jack for your skills, enthusiasm and sense of fun which has made this season a great platform for the future

What an amazing season the lads have had. This season could of gone two ways, the first way was we would be fighting relegation and the second was finishing mid table but what do we go and do is finish runners up in the top di-
have had a change in Manager and style of play, which they have adapted to
what we would like them to achieve on the pitch, be that in training or a match, the same dedication and commitment has been evident. This makes coaching and managing the team easy as we are all pulling in the same direction. If we can keep going like this then the boys can look forward to a lot more success. The season has been so exciting we have had some amazing results such as games like 5-2 win away to Southend Manor and Losing with the last kick of the game to Leigh Ramblers 4-3 and lastly beating Concord 1-0 away to get second
reason for the boys to be proud of themselves is that every team we have faced always comments on the quality of the football we play. I know I can speak for everyone who has helped out with the coaching when i say as team you have made us all very proud of you and we look forward to achieving more success next season. I would like to say Thank You to Brian Clements who has been amazing dealing with all the admin for the team, a big thank you to Ian Wicks who helps with the coaching and the matches, also a big Thank You to Neil Harris who is invaluable as a taxi sorry i mean coach and idol to the boys you have all been amazing help throughout the season. Unfortunately, it has not been the best of seasons for the U9 Tigers this year, a series
am sounding more and more like a football Manager each year!). However, some of the football we played this season I have not seen bettered by any
play this season has been much improved from last year, and every member of the team has continued with the progression that they made from last season. Although the results may not have gone our way this season, I have been hugely impressed with the attitude and endeavour that the boys have showed, and I feel sure that this, added to the skills that the boys undoubtedly have, will soon see them back up the table again! Meet the Team Mitchell Clulow – Goalkeeper (outstanding shotstopper) Christian Rungay – Defender (very quick and a great transition to sweeper this sea- son) Owen Hicks – Defender (huge overall improvement this season – has made his Dad proud) Joe Whittaker – Defender / Midfielder (superb eye for a pass and very composed on the ball) Matthew Enderson – Goal / Defence / Midfield / Attack (a Manager’s dream - can play anywhere. Scored the goal of the season again!) Charlie Else – Midfield (midfield General – great ability to dictate play and still scores goals!) Joe Lovett – Midfield (great energy and loves to get forward and support the attack) Joseph Shields – Defender / Striker (very strong in the tackle and always gives 100%) Tom Couchman – Midfield / Striker (industrious player who has also chipped in with a couple of goals) Brook Wilkins – Striker (lightning quick and our top scorer this season) A few thank you’s…. Firstly a big thank you to Simon and Brian for their help again this season, it is definitely not a one person job! Their advice and support has been invaluable. Thanks to our Ref- eree – John Lovett. A thankless task if ever there was one, he has managed to be com- pletely unbiased during all our games, even when we don’t want him to be! To all the parents / grandparents / friends – thank you for supporting the team this season. It gives the boys so much encouragement to hear you shouting your support for them – even if on occasion you drown me out! Finally, a huge thanks to my long-suffering wife

So we have reached the end of what has felt like a very long season. Pumas had to rebuild this season with three new players joining the squad. Understandably they needed time to settle in adjust to new surroundings and Division 1 football, the existing boys needed to get used to new faces and styles of play. In our opening games we did not get the results our play deserved, a broken arm for Connor Triggs meant we were only able to field seven players in these games and as we picked up minor injuries many games finished with only six players on the pitch. Water logged pitches caused our second round cup match to take six weeks to play and we fell behind
boys gelled over the season reaching the quarter finals of the Lions Cup and beating two of the top three teams as we moved out of the drop zone. Our performances got better and better the longer the season went on as the boys showed great character to beat the drop. I will not forget the look joy on their faces when they secured the points needed to stay up. But my biggest high- light was our performance against Southend Manor, we played the game with six boys against their seven and three subs, totally out playing them in the second half and very easily got some- thing from the game. We religiously stuck to our policy of every player having same playing time in every match and I am pleased to say we have nine players deserving of their Division 1 status. Well done boys, roll on next season! I would like to thank all the parents/grandparents for their continued support and commitment, it is never a struggle to find volunteers. Goals magically go up and come down without any prompt- ing, thank you Dads you know who you are. John and Phil have been a fantastic help on match days assisting with the boys along with refereeing games. Ian has become our lucky charm with the whistle, Pumas have not lost a game he has taken charge of so he could get the job on a per- manent basis (just kidding!). Finally Michelle deserves a huge acknowledgement for all the sacrific- es she makes and for her continued support. This is the third season for this team and their first in a league structure. The side once again evolved with some players coming and others leaving. This did have some affect but the biggest contribution to the boy's performances was the enforced break due to the ad- verse weather conditions. If anything this had a positive influence. Up to that point the boys were struggling to adjust and were getting into a habit of letting their heads go
pete through the entire game on a regular basis. The boys were very unfortunate in a number of games to not get a result or to go on and win from a strong position. Having said all that, the boys have developed further in terms
team mates if mistakes are made or a particular move is successful. I feel the boys have learnt and taken a lot from this fledgling season showing good atti-
seasons. I'd like to thank Warren Sharp for stepping in and affectively taking over the team when my work commitments where getting in the way. He also helped immensely with referee- ing most of our home games. Shane Bird for all his support and providing an excellent training regime and structure to help the boys develop. I'd also like to thank the dads for setting up and taking down the goals etc and finally the support from the parents. This has been excellent again through a difficult season. Chris Susans

It was always going to be tough to repeat the form of last season not least because we were moved up at least one additional division but despite that I had hoped we would have faired a little better than the final outcome. The season got off to a difficult start with the Panthers losing their first 5 games on the trot. However the boys managed to demonstrate real char- acter by turning around their form with a key win against Ekco White Caps which catalyzed a run of 10 games in which they only lost 3 times. Unfortunately consistency has been the key missing factor and disappointing results in the final games of the season saw us finish towards the bottom of our division. This is very frus- trating for everyone as the Panthers have regularly demonstrated flashes of the form of last season and it is interesting to note that they took points off all 3 of the top 3 in their division with a win against Hawkwell Athletic on the return home leg and draws against Eversley who won the division and Forest Glade who came third. Overall, we were unlucky to have not con- verted a few more of those draws into wins which had we done so would have made a big difference to our final league position. It is quite clear to us all that the Panthers are capable
Graham and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shane, Lee, Josh and the rest of the coaches at Academy Soccer who have worked with the boys this season for their efforts in coaching the team. Finally a big thank you to Jay Souto for stepping up to be our team referee.

Our final season at 7 a side has turned out to be our most successful one. At the point
But the season did not start as well as we would have hoped. Up until the New Year we had had only 3 wins out of 9 games and were knocked out of the cup again in the first round after a draw, forcing the match into extra time and penalties. We were very un- lucky and sadly lost when the game reached sudden death penalties. We hit the New Year with a bang, almost as though we had a new team. The boys start- ed to play some great passing football with mid field playing and moving as a unit, the defenders playing solidly at the back and Ellis diving around in goal as ever. We man- aged to put together a 7 game winning streak which included a 7-0 win over Concord. This winning streak pushed us up to 2nd place where we have fought to stay to the end
Again it has been another season of learning for the boys, with the games becoming much more physical and speed of the game increasing. The physical side was a bit of a shock at the beginning of the season, but the boys have now definitely toughened up and can give as good as they get. Both Stu and myself would like to thanks the boys for the commitment they have shown to the team, for making us laugh and cry, and for making mini soccer so enjoyable to train and manage. We hope the boys are looking forward to moving up to 11 a side next

U10 Tigers
Our final season in mini soccer has been a fantastic one for the Tigers. Regardless of where we do actually finish, we see the boys as ‘our champions’ in the way that they now play ‘real’ football and their passing and thinking shows what good players they have become. Each and every one of them has been great team player and although, as in previous years, there has to be players of the year chosen, we can again say that every boy should be very proud of his football this season. As we write this report we have one game yet to play in this season and with other results going our way, we could find ourselves divisional champions! Alex Davis (Goalkeeper) - Alex has become one of the top goalkeepers in his year group. He is com- mitted and brave, on many occasions, making match deciding saves. In some matches, multiple saves, so quick are his reaction! Alex’s goalkeeping has matured this season and we are very proud to have him. Sam Martin - Sam has consolidated his ability as a defender and once he is on the case, we know he won’t let go! Sam is developing his attacking play and on a number of occasions has provided us with much pleasure watching him in the final third of the pitch. His growing confidence in taking the ball forward himself, proves how well Sam is maturing as a player. Danny Lanning – Has had an great season. Playing in a mixture of roles, he slips easily into them all, making him an excellent all-rounder. During the second half of the season he has worked really well leading the attack and has performed tirelessly for the team. He has both scored and assisted in some fantastic goals throughout the season. Harry Seaden– Harry has been amazing in defence again this season. He has also played in midfield and attack and has worked really hard proving to the management that he is equally as dangerous and effective, anywhere on the pitch! His passing ability and the power of his kicks will be a true asset
Archie Davies – Archie has a versatility rare in a player of his age as he is able to play really well in defence and up front. He is a great team player and on the few occasions when the team has needed a lift, Archie is the one to do it. Archie has a mature attitude and this shows when the team is under pressure. Daniel James – Daniel has had another great season. He has become the team’s corner taker be- cause of his outstanding accuracy with the ball which added to his already mature thinking and pass- ing, has made him an important link in the team’s chain. Daniel can always be relied upon to find a great pass when it counts and has also scored some very cheeky goals! Zac Wing– Zac has maintained a terrific energy which is evident whenever he is on the pitch. His presence in the game is visible for all to see and being still one of the quickest boys in the division, he is always in the right place at the right time. His speed and energy mean that he has on a number of
Charlie Young – Charlie has continued to play a major role in the attacking force of the team. He has scored some amazing goals and is never afraid to go in for the tackle or run with the ball. He has a mature and hardworking attitude to his football and is a real asset to the team. We hope to see Charlie score many more goals next season! Joe Vaufrouard– Joe works extremely hard to fulfil his roles within the team, and his athleticism on the pitch often leaves the opposition standing! He has progressed his passing to become more long range and that, added to the accuracy, will make him invaluable for 11 aside. Joe is very tenacious and this too will help the team in the future. Huge thanks this season go to; Maria for her continued admin support, Phil for once again being the
ment team going forward and we thank him for his continued commitment to the team. Thanks also to the committee of Rayleigh Boys YFC for their continued support throughout the sea- son, A huge thank you goes to all the parents, grandparents and family members who have come along to help and support. It still makes the children feel special. And finally, of course, a very special thanks to all the boys for giving us all a memorable last season in mini soccer. Looking forward to our first year in 11 aside!. Dan and Carl P W D L F A

U10 Leopards
Our last season in mini soccer was by far our most successful and the boys thoroughly deserved the second place finish in League Three. We played at a consistent level throughout the season and each player produced a great performance just when we needed it. We started the season strongly beating old rivals Benfleet 5-0, struggled in mid season particularly against Southend, before winning 5 out of last 6 games to finish in real style. We should all be very proud of the boys this season , they trained hard all year and got their reward with 2nd place. We also won
having not played organised football previously. He soon found his feet in defence and put in some brilliant performances as the season progressed. Naturally athletic he even scored a fine headed goal against Wickford. Well done Matthew! Edward Mitchell really stepped up this year and made a massive contribution to the team’s overall success. His positional play was excellent and he is now breaking from defence to set up some good attacks. Edward is always fully com- mitted and has even developed his own sliding tackle, which he has timed better and better as the season progressed! Our goalkeeper Jonathan Travers performed brilliantly and pulled off some game winning saves at crucial times. In several close games, such as those against the Leigh Rockets, Jonathan was often the reason why we won the game. He is now reading the game to clear through balls and is commanding his area. He played every minute of every game and was a real star. A fantastic season. Jamie Kerr terrorised defences all season long from left midfield. He even frustrated opposition parents who in one game (FC Redwing) couldn’t understand why their boys couldn’t tackle him. They should try it!! Jamie’s enthusiasm for the game is evident and we are delighted to see his
spirit that makes Luke such a valuable player to our team. He has continued the form that won him the player of the year last season and always gives 100%. He has learnt to time his pass to perfection and set up numerous goals. He also scored a few himself, including a contender for goal of the season!!Matt Barnes spent most games gliding past defenders on the right wing and making cross after cross. Matt has really grown into the winger position and gave the team real balance with Jamie on the other side. He also scored some important goals and has worked re- ally hard to improve his all round game. Another fine season from Matt and kept us laughing in training! Matt will make a real impact on the Tigers team next season – good luck Matt! Callum Dunmore was again our most consistent performer and while only really wanting to be centre midfield or up front, he nevertheless played in defence several times when required with great
great goals for us and is getting stronger and improving each year. His corner taking was also
Rory Gregory settled into his midfield duties this season and showed touches of real class in at-
let us down. He still enjoys getting forward but it was his link up play with Luke and Matt that really shone through. Another really good contribution from Rory and a real team player. In at- tack James Dennison was always a threat and scored an astonishing 5 goals against Wickford which was a real highlight. He often got the goal that settled our nerves. It was very noticeable that as the season progressed James was really using his strength to hold up play and connect with the midfield. Often the quiet man but he really plays for the team. We must thank Andy, Ja- son and Colin for helping out on Saturdays. Thanks also to Claire for being our team secretary. As we have always said we have been lucky to have such a great bunch of boys who are firm friends as well as teammates. A great season. Noel and Dave P W D L F A 14 9 1 4 44 32

U10 Pumas
It has been a successful season for the Pumas with the team reaching the semi final of the Tigers cup and finishing in the top 5 in the league (1 game to play). There have been many highs throughout the season and a couple of lows, but as always the boys have played the game with spirit, flare and fairness and have showed that they are a match for any team. This, our last season of mini soccer has been a pleasure and I would like to thank the boys and parents for their commitment throughout. I would like to introduce you to each of the team by way of comparing their attributes to those of well known Prem- iership players: Luke (Petr Chech) Miller - Goal Keeper – App: 26 - All time App: 86 Tall and looks good in a cap!! Luke has always been our Keeper from day one and has improved year
portance to the team. Nathan (Jamie Carragher) Bartlett - Defender – App: 26 – All time App: 47 Dependable – Nathan has taken the role of defender and made it his own. Often the sole defender he has the pace to cover at the back and is clearly doing a great job as goals against have been kept to a minimum. Harry (Scott Parker) Dell - Defender/Midfield – App: 26 – Goals: 5 - All time App: 86 Like Scott, Harry is strong in the tackle and an intelligent player of the ball. Whether in defense or mid- field, Harry will battle with the toughest of opponents, win the ball fairly and then distribute to set up an attack. Archie (Paul Scholes) Ellis - Midfield – App: 25 – Goals: 8 - All time App: 45 Just like Paul Scholes, Archie is the midfield general and also known for the odd yellow card tackle (although never been yellow carded). Tough, strong and skilled, Archie leads by example and is my player of the season. Christian (Theo Walcot) Stillabower – Midfield – App: 25 – Goals: 10 - All time App: 61 Fast with endless energy sums Christian up. He provides pace in attack but also covers back to provide the additional defender. Add to this the odd goal and you have a good idea of what Christian adds to the team. Sam (Luka Modric) Norris - Midfield – App: 26 – Goals: 17 - All time App: 44 Just like Luka, Sam has an excellent footballing brain and what he lacks in stature, he more than makes up for in the silky ball skills he demonstrates in every game. Sam also has an eye for goal and has add- ed 17 goals from midfield this season. Zak (Wayne Rooney) Georgiou - Defender/Forward – App: 12 – Goals: 8 - All time App: 12 Our newest addition to the team, Zak, has slotted straight into the team and just like Rooney can play in any position on the field. He is a powerful player with the right mix of aggression and fairness and has already scored the odd spectacular goal!! Harvey (Fernando Torres) Deal - Forward – App: 25 – Goals: 22 - All time App: 85 A typical predatory striker who likes to play off the back of defenders. Given half a chance he will have the ball in the back of the net with deadly accuracy and has racked up 22 goals this season. As we draw to a close on our time in mini soccer, I can honestly say that I could not have wished for a better group of boys and parents and now we look forward to the fresh challenges 11-a-aside will bring. Thanks to all who have made this a memorable season. Darren (Harry Redknapp) & Jim (Joe Jordan) P W D L F A 19 11 2 6 58 27
27 A disappointing season as far as results was concerned but a season where players have shown improvement in ability and mentality. Our first game against Great Wakering Tigers we lost and the manner of our defeat was hard to take as we gave up far too early in the game but the following day we put in a great performance against Chalve- don and deserved 3 points but we lost 1-0 due to a dubious refereeing decision (he allowed a goal to stand after their player had controlled the ball with his hand). Successive defeats left us with boys completely low on confidence after some encouraging performances but nothing to show from it. We took the game to some teams and took the lead in a majority of them only to collapse in defeat. In other games we allowed teams to win and this was how our season was panning out, we looked on top from the start of a match but couldn’t score and ended up letting goals in and giving up. At the end January we played Canvey and the attitude of the players improved in an even game against a decent team, the boys defended as a team and were unfortunate to lose 2-0 but it set in motion a new belief in the players and the following fixture they put in a great performance to beat Great Wakering 2-1. The last 5 fixtures of the season were, for me, a joy to watch as the team played a confident attacking game and played the 2 top teams of the league, although we lost both games there wasn’t anything in these matches and with a unlucky draw against Wickford Leopards and a great win against Hawkwell Tigers the boys showed they were not a poor team and could compete in this league. That has been what I have taken from this season that the boys picked themselves up, dusted themselves down and decided to fight again from being down and out and they deserve credit for that. Ian and I have enjoyed coaching the boys this season they have been a pleasure to train and I would also like to thank Mark and Louise for taking on the treasury role. Dean and Ian

At Rayleigh FC we are now setting up a veterans side for players 35+ years. We will be playing Saturday afternoons, nothing too serious. We will need a squad in the region of at least 25 players, we would expect the squad to be made up some players that will be there most weeks while others could only make the occasional match (hence the large number!). So if you can’t make every week you can still be involved. We will be in the Green King Essex Veterans league (South Division), registration to the league will be submitted at the end of April. If you are interested in playing please contact Mark Chapman on 07970 204883 or e-mail mark.chapman@putneyandwood.co.uk.
Veterans’ Football Goalkeeper Training
Carrying on the bus pass/zimmer frame theme, Neil ’The Cat’ Kirsh, Dave ‘Bark’ Barker and Rob ‘Crock’ Smith will be carrying on the goalkeeper train- ing next season. The training takes place at Spring Gardens, Rayleigh from September until April, usually on the last Saturday of the month. There are separate sessions for mini soccer and 11-a-side with an emphasis on enjoy- ment, improvement and developing key skills. All the coaches hold the FA L1 Goalkeeping Certificate and are enthusiastic and motivated although ‘Bark’ is the only one able to actually dive! If you want more information please mail neilkirsh@hotmail.com or speak to your child’s manager. Sessions are only £1/£1.50 respectively with any funds raised being use to purchase equipment and pay for Rob’s chiropractor. Please bring your goalkeepers along to sup- port this new and exciting initiative.

Having gained promotion back to the Top Flight after having been away for a season, we always knew this would prove a difficult task on our return. Having such a small squad made things hard enough in mini soccer but to step up to 11 a side with similar problem proved to us all that a decent sized squad is a must, this is something we are currently trying to rectify, albeit being a difficult challenge in itself. The boys had put in some superb performances against some of the top sides and only just came up short of getting some memorable results, however, if we are to stay in the top division the boys will need to look at their own performances and learn from what has happen this season. The move onto the big- ger pitches has been a huge learning curve and the need to commit 100% to each challenge even more
have found that at the top level only 100% all the time is required. As we write this report we have two remaining fixtures to play, one being against the team who currently lie bottom, if we secure the win which we know we are capable of, this should be enough to secure our position for next season !!!! Les Hawks: a big thank you for your help and enthusiasm throughout the season, we look forward to this continuing with hopefully a few more added additions to the squad. A final big Thank you to all parents and brothers for taking charge of the Lino duties. Neil, Steve & Anthony

Another great season, it is satisfying for me and Simon to report we finished 2nd in division A and gain promotion to the top league next season. Our mini soccer squad of 9 players was increased with another 5 players for 11 aside. They were Joel Milne, Isaac Young, Jack Renew, James Barnes and Andrew Clarke. During the course of the summer we held midweek training session which helped the new re- cruits settle in with existing team mates. Pre-season warm ups included 2 friendlys with Basildon Boys which we won comfortably. Our Annual entry into the Trinity tournament was a test to see how ready we were, we had done well in this tournament finishing 2nd the previous year. We were undefeated in our 4 group games and finished 2nd to go into a 3rd place play off against Southend Manor A, we won 2 – 0 and looked very comfortable. The season started away from home to Catholic, we only had one sub. that day and found the game a strong test losing 4 – 2, however after that we found our feet and won the next 9 league games to spend the major part of the season at the top of the table. As the winter hit hard this season we spent too long not playing regular football and we finished not as strong as we start- ed. Me and Simon would like to thank all the boys for a great effort this season and gaining promo- tion, we look to build on this success next season. To all the parents, thank you for your contin- ued support. Paul

P W D L F A 14 (L) 3 11 31 64 At the end of last season the club formed 3 under 11 teams from the 4 teams in mini soccer. 2 players moved to the A team, we took 2 from the Puma’s, then we added to the squad with Archie B joining from Leigh Ram- blers & 4 new players Brandon, Max, Toby & Jamie R who had never played for a club before joining us. The team suffered an enormous blow pre-season when George Burlock suffered a double ankle fracture at train-
aged to play the first & last games. The team were entered in the 4th Division in the league back in May to try & give them a competitive challenge, but balanced with teams of mixed ability. Unfortunately we ended up with two ‘A’ teams with the rest ‘B’ teams, apart from us. We entered the Trinity pre-season tournament in September & the team acquitted themselves well in the first foray into 11 a-side, with a win, draw & defeat. We opened our league campaign at home on the freshly mown lawns of the Chichester. It is a fantastic venue for the club & a huge thank you goes to the Committee & all the managers/parents that have helped turn it into the club’s home in such a short space of time. The team started well against Chalvedon with George scor- ing the opening goal of the season after a few minutes. Unfortunately the game rapidly became very physical from our opposition & they decided that they would win at all costs, regardless of the laws of the game. We would gain revenge, the right way, in the return match. We then had a tough run of games against the 2 ‘A’ teams & Concord’s ‘B’ team. These 3 teams filled the top 3 positions in the league & were a distance apart from the rest of the teams. The boys acquitted themselves well, but it was clear that they needed time to set- tle down as a team & find their positions. Next we had back to back games against Beech United who were just above us in the league. In both games the boys played fantastically & ran out comfortable winners 6-1 & 7-0 with 5 different scorers in each game. We were then edged out in 2 close games against Trinity. Our next game was the most satisfying result of the season away at Chalvedon. Despite having a stand-in keeper, the boys played their best football & won 2-1, much to the annoyance of the opposition. Although that was our last win of the season, the 2nd half of the season showed marked improvement in their play & if they can cut
12 players, so credit must go to the boys for giving their all. They coped well with the big pitches & their fit- ness levels have significantly increased. Massive thanks to Neil Kirsh & Charlie Burlock for all your help at training & the matches. It is greatly appreciated & I couldn’t do it without you. Neil’s league one experience at Orient shows the players how not to do it & Charlie’s Spurs pedigree provides a Champions League perspec-

After a strong first season in the Premier division, we knew we would be in for a very de- manding season to maintain that level, as the league had become even more competitive. The boys can be proud that they currently lie 3rd in the division and have also entertained good cup runs in the Essex Cup reaching the last 16, and the semi finals of the league cup
son, which will see you having played 26 competitive games by the time it finishes. You can be proud of your continued levels of effort, commitment and enthusiasm. It seems a long time back know when we were welcoming our new additions, Conor Slough and Alec Bateman into the team, before we were dropped with the bombshell in Sept that our keeper, Bryn was emigrating to the Canaries. Wishing Bryn well on his new life abroad, we managed to secure the goalkeeping services of Thomas Crick but had to play 4 games without a recognised keep-
cover in goal and doing a very good job. We again had a difficult start in terms of fixtures, as we encountered on paper the strongest 3 teams in our league .Although we put in very good performances, were only rewarded with 1 point out of 9, but have since gone on a great run which has seen us go unbeaten for the last 13 league games including 10 clean sheets. Alongside our League performances we have also be involved in 2 cup competitions. We en- tered the Essex Cup for the first time, playing 4 games and eventually reaching the last 16 where we were beaten 4 -2 after extra time by the eventual finalists East Thurrock United .In the League cup we reached the semi final, where after Kallum scored a superb late equaliser, we were on the losing side after penalties. I take my hat off to all the boys that stepped up to take one in that pressured environment. We continue to play a pass and move game, but be- lieve we have become stronger in both work rate and structure of the team .This has received many opposition compliments, especially the back four. As we say each week the defending starts from the front, the work ethic and team spirit has been strong all season. Some of the football we have played has been a pleasure to watch, I’m confident we will continue to play this way whilst developing the physical side of the game. I would like to say a big thank you to John for his coaching and assistance/support on Match days, it is very much appreciated. I’d also like to thank the Parents for their support and especially those for running the line and also a big thank you to our sponsors Laser Essex Ltd. As is the same every season the biggest thanks should go to the boys for their continued effort, commitment and attitude. En- joy the rest in the summer whilst waiting for the adventure to start again in September. This left us with a squad of 12 after the return of Harry Gibson and our new signing, Taylor Harris. Our campaign started positively with a convincing victory over Mornington Boys A. This followed with an away win against Trinity C. One of the best games of the season pitched us against a stronger Trinity D team which we narrowly lost 2-
newly promoted Island Boys A, seeing 3 goals and a penalty all saved in the last 5 minutes. Un- fortunately, similar to last year, the bad weather stopped play from the end of November through to the teams next scheduled game on 16th January. During this time Harry Gibson decided to return to Rugby so the squad was now down to 11 players. Mixed fortunes followed with heavy defeats against Mornington Boys A (away) and Essex Royals A (Home), but there were also some excellent performances against Hawkwell B, Catholic D, Junior Bocas A and Island Boys A. The second half of the season wasn’t made easy, trying to reschedule games which left us with 10 players for six of our games. Despite this, the boys showed great character and determination and were unlucky some of these results didn’t go our way. Our main strike force came from the left with both Matt and Kareem scoring 11 goals each and Jacob netting 6 times with his bursts from midfield. All the players have improved during the season and conditions were not always favourable with our short squad numbers, so they should be proud of what the team has achieved. I also want to take this opportunity to mention the hard work over the summer by parents and members of the Committee which has enabled the club to open our new ground over at the

Finishing in the same positions as last year, 6th, doesn’t reflect the teams overall performance, by adding to the squad over the summer I believe we should be challenging at the top next sea- son. The boys continue with their excellent relationships and humour. Training on Saturday mornings has been an eye opener with secondary school banter! It’s been a challenging season for Simon and I, but we couldn’t do it without the excellent sup- port that we have from our parents. First of all I can’t believe next year sees the team move up to under 14s!! The boys are growing up so fast it’s difficult to keep up with them both physically and mentally. The season saw us start slowly, at
wins eventually came our way. The boys started to believe in themselves and it was good to see us compete both technically and physically with the so called “big boys” of the division. A few highlights were the excellent wins against teams we have struggled against in the past namely a double over Leigh Ramblers A & Ecko Whitecaps and lets not forget our 2 fantastic matches against Trinity which in fairness we could have won. Our run to the quarter finals of the County Cup was also worthy of a men-
game was a real turning point in respect of the boys having belief in their ability. The aim at the start of the season was to accumulate more points than the year before so in that respect the boys have done well and they should take a great deal in pride for what they have achieved. This year will also be re- membered as the season when the boys started to feel the full disciplinary wrath of referees! Alex be- came our first player to be sent off and bookings quickly followed for Matt and no surprise Tyler! With some teams leaving the division next season there is no reason why we can’t make a serious push for the title and the cup although even if those teams had stayed I would have fancied our chances of some long overdue glory. Our ultimate goal is to play in the Eastern Alliance at under 15s which myself and Kris think is an exciting and realistic proposition. Finally thanks to Kris for all his hard work, both the visible stuff and all the behind the scenes work. Also thanks to Ailsa, I know my limited input places pressures on Wendy so I’m sure Ailsa finds it even more stressful. Thanks to Mandie Copper for the fit- ness sessions (the boys just love those runs!!). Thanks to Matt for helping out when we needed him in Kris’s absence and thanks to Steve for his help in previous seasons. Thanks to all who ran the line and also for the tremendous support from parents and family who turn up to watch the boys and last but not least a big thank you to the boys themselves. DIVISION “C” CHAMPIONS
After just narrowly missing out on automatic promotion last year, the boys con- tinued this season where they left off and through good team football, hard graft and determination, they deservedly finished the season as Division “C” Champions. It has been another fantastic season for the boys. Not only have they all grown in height (and incredible shoe sizes!!), each and every boy has improved on the pitch. They’ve played some excellent football this year and whilst we only lost one league game all season, the majority of games were always hard fought matches. Two very good teams joined the Division this year and whilst we had our usual “ding-dongs” with our regular well known opponents, the main challenges came from the “new boys to the Division” in Eversley Boys and
We had a really difficult run-in to the end of the season, with any of the top 3 teams all capable of claiming that all important top spot. Our last few games were without doubt some of the most incredible and memorable games the boys have ever played. It’s not often when days later you’re going to work still
The majority of the team has been together for a number of years now and this year we were lucky to have strengthened the team by signing Jamie and
have achieved this year. Well done to all of them, they’re all Champions. Finally, it’s important that we offer our sincere thanks (and apologies) to our wives for putting up with/listening to the constant talk and moans about foot- ball/training etc. We also have to say a very big thank you to all the parents, grandparents, family and friends who have again showed superb support for the team this season. It really is greatly appreciated by us and the boys. We’ll do it all again in September. Gerry, Dean & Paul

41 Going into this season was a time to build
last years forth place with most
the same boys as last year and Tommy and Femi coming in and devel-
have ended up 3rd in a very competitive league with enough points in
seasons to have won the league outright. The boys have played some wonderful football this year and what is most pleasing ending the season with 8 straight wins and beating the top team 3 -1 in the last game which they needed to win to take the title. The boys in that game played some of the best football I have seen and completely played Catholic Utd off the park a fitting end to a great season. Very pleasing this year was seeing the further improvement of the boys who joined the previous sea- son with Michael Thomas, Jamie Bellamy and Luke Phillips all getting their first goals for the Club which was a great achievement, well done boys. The team has really improved and more importantly they play as a team for each other, Tommy and Femi have fitted in as if they have always been there and apart from being great little players they are a pleasure to work with. From Martin in goal to 38 goals Callum up front they have all played their part and on their day can match anybody in the league, as our cup run showed. The lads have formed further into a team and more importantly their friendships have grown. The boys have been a pleasure to work with all season and when you see them congratulating each other on good goals or saves it makes the effort all worthwhile. I would like to thank Curo Support Services for their sponsorship of the team shirts and BASF for their tracksuit
for doing the water bottles what a Woman her arms have grown by 6 inches carrying those bottles over. I would like to personally say what a great friendly bunch of Parents we have who make my role easier and a pleasure and to all the Mums (The Spice Girls) thank you for your support and cups of tea. Thank you to Karen who does so much more than me behind the scenes not only for our team but across the whole Club. Finally, thanks to Mark and Mark who have put a lot of hard work and effort into the children I know how passionately you both feel about the team and your efforts to improve them which I firmly believe we have seen this season and hopefully improv- ing further next season. Mark (Pep Guardiola) Chapman (Head Coach) An avid Hammers fan has shelved trying to play like them and now has us playing like Barcelona. !! Looking to make a comeback in Vets Football, he should know better at his age..!!! Mark (Bobby Moore) Crocker (Coach) Another Hammers Fan who has worked hard on getting the defence wa- tertight, whilst playing the ball out of defence instead of booting it. Only issue is he is too easily led as Mark has talked him into Vets football as well. Well done lads and keep enjoying your football. Thank you to everyone who has supported the U13 C Team. As the season draws to a close Gary and I want to be the first to congratulate the boys on another great season, although at the time of writing we still have a few games and a league cup final to play, but when you are reading this I hope we a reason to celebrate if not two. The boy’s strength is more evident with a raft of new players and changes to the team, as well as their own personal changes as they develop into young men and yet we always get full enthusiastic attendance for train- ing and on match days. This has shown in the type of football they try to play, which I hope you all agree is a joy to watch and the icing on the cake is the amount of goals scored to what they have conceded, they are way ahead of anyone in the league, well done. Well that’s the team introduced, it
team. Charlie Huntley-(Goal Keeper) A new player this season, who showed his worth before the season kicked off at a pre-season tour- nament by saving two penalties, allowing us to win the tournament. Throughout the season he has had made some great saves and commands his area with great authority. Louis Bubb – Def A different position for Louis this season, has adapted well does not need to be invited to attack with
Tyler Harris-Def A solid defender, who has shared with Louis this season, strong performances have made him a reli- able player when called upon. Cameron Ward-Def A confident and solid player which any defence requires, partnering well with Tom, and surprises many opponents with his power and skill. Tom Cole-Def Tom is a strong combative player who has played well all season with Cameron a good tackler and strong in the air. Jake McKechnie- Def First season with us Jake a natural left footer has worked very hard for the team to create a strong back four, and more recently has given us another dimension to our corners. Max Jobson-Mid A welcome return to us this season, Max is a complete natural with the ball, high energy makes him an asset in attack and defence when needed. James Buckley-Mid Our very own ‘pocket rocket’ a player that gives nightmares to defences, with his no nonsense ap- proach, a player who will run all game long. Sam Holt –Mid Awesome amounts of energy will See him hit the ‘after burners’ to catch and glide alongside attack- ing players for a killer tackle and in the next breath support the forwards for the next attack. Alex Murphy-Mid CAPTAIN ‘Captain Marvel’ a definite team player who gives his all every week. His energy levels help him link up successfully with both the defence and forwards. Ross Milne- Mid A player that can glide pass defences like ‘Lionel Messi’ to potent effect, another player who works tirelessly for the cause. Joe Shulver-Mid Another new player this season, Joe’s biggest attribute his quick passing and crossing of the ball, which has split many defences this season. Jack Turner-Forward A natural in front of goal, Jack has learnt to work off of Jamie more this season with great effect. Will not let defenders settle on the ball. Jamie Chick- Forward Another natural striker who will work hard all game until the final whistle, lightening fast creating a difficult environment for the opposition and at the same time opens up chances for himself. After finishing second and winning promotion last season, we knew this season would be a much tougher proposition and so it proved to be. The season began with some tough games as we struggled to come to terms with the extra speed and strength required in Di- vision A, culminating with a 9-2 defeat at the hands of a very good Leigh Ramblers side. This was the low point of the season but to their credit the boys continued to work hard at their game and we started to see signs that we were finally able to compete at the higher

The Team: Oakley Brown, Ben Clark, Richard Carey, Joe Daniell, Joshua Dean, Lawrie Mayor, Simon Murphy, Anthony Pegg, Chris Punt, James Sanders, Kier Taiani , Jack Vail and Greg Warner. I very much welcome Greg Warner to the team this season and his Dad Steve. I would like to thank one and all for their support throughout the season; I am sure you have all enjoyed watching their performance and progress as much as me. As you may be aware I have suffered with sciatica for a considerable part of the year and have not been able to support the team as much as I usually do. Therefore specials thanks go to Ash Brown and Jack Taiani for their commitment and support which is much appreciated. Also to Mel Brown and Yvonne Vail for arranging the boys’ half time snacks and birthdays- help like that means a great deal. We have a shiny new kit and tracksuits tops which look great and I thank Bill Collier and Kevin Taiani for their very generous contributions. Bill in addition is giving to charity based
strategy here as I think it will cost him a small fortune this year!). I take my hat off and raise my glass to you all. We had a little cup run which was fun. We have played in total 20 matches, winning 16, drawing 2, losing 2. We scored an amazing 71 goals for and conceded 31. In the league we played 16 matches, winning 13, drawing 2, losing 1 but with a much weakened team. Our goal difference is plus 44. What a fabulous season again. One last word……. Champions! Last season's promotion has moved us up to the under 15's B divi- sion and with the number of divisions decreasing by one, to four, the level of football is much higher. The majority of the team from last season remain with us and we add some quality players to bolster the squad. The division turns out to be competitive with teams an equal standard where a majority of games end with a close score line. Good for the neutral, not so good for the manag-
game and to continue the great team spirit within the side which i think we have successfully achieved, and has been commented on by opposition manager's this season. Our finishing position (currently 4th) is an impressive achievement and a true reflection
and hope to be title contenders next season" Andy Bennett

* County & League Cup finals still to be played at time of writing. The team underwent a change of personnel during the summer and several new faces were welcomed to the Club. The welcoming committee formed by St Edmunds Youth saw the now infamous ‘Battle of Colchester’ take place and despite the fallout, the team bonding session went quite well. The team’s pre-season was positive; it included a credi- ble draw against Hullbridge (Alliance) and a tournament win at Trinity. The season proper began with half the team missing and despite a tough start; the win gained against Valley Colts set the tone for the rest of the season. Twelve straight wins followed in League and Cups, with team hitting double figures in matches, three times before Christmas. The league campaign was a bonus especially as the team were domi- nating in the cup competitions en route to the League and County Cup Finals. It is a testament to the attacking play of the team that every player bar our keeper has scored at least one goal this season and the team have scored over 100 goals in compet- itive matches this season. This has been possible due to solid foundation the team has with such an outstanding defence and goalkeeper. Space prohibits me from espousing the virtues of individual players so I shall focus upon the team highlights. Hitting double figures three times in eleven league games was a tremendous achieve- ment, travelling to Alliance Champions, East Thurrock Utd and knocking them out of the County Cup is a match which will live long in the memory. The thrilling extra time wins against Aim High and Heybridge Swifts were immense. Winning away to previous Cham- pions, Ekco Whitecaps firmly established the team as potential Champions. There have so many great moments. I must thank everyone who has supported the team this season, parents, families, friends alike. On behalf of the team, I’d like to thank Tony Hogg not just for the excellent photography but for sponsoring the team and providing kit and equipment and most of all training balls! My thanks go also to my assistant Richard, Chris and Sam for their tire- less work and commitment. Denise Amoroso deserves a medal for her support and for almost keeping me sane! Thanks to any parent who ran the line for team on match days. Thanks to Clare Rankin Maclean and Chris Hockett, they have been tremendously sup- portive. Most of all I’d like to thank and congratulate the players for their efforts this season, winning the League title is a magnificent achievement in itself, I don’t think anyone real- ises quite how much you have also achieved by reaching a County Cup final in addition to the League Cup final. Welcome everyone to the awards presentation As I write this, we have one league game left to play and we sit 4th in Di- vision C. Which I guess is an improvement on previous seasons and is a respectable position, however this does not tell the whole story. There is a football saying, “it was a game of two halves”, well we had a season of two halves. We started with a resounding 5-0 away win, playing some very attractive football with two wide players and attacking midfielders, we were a side that always looked to make chances and score goals. The season looked very promising, we enjoyed six league wins out of seven league games
At this point we sat top of the league, all seemed good and we all had high hopes of keeping up a challenge for the league title. From the 6th February we played seven league matches and lost everyone
lar style and creating chances but now we stopped scoring and instead found unique ways of conceding goals. You could say we over achieved in early season and under achieved in the latter part, so maybe being 4th in the table is about right, although it was a bit disappointing for the players that we let slip an opportunity to chal- lenge for the league. I am proud of the fact we had no yellow or red cards during the season and we won with dignity and lost in the same manner. It has been an honour to be the manager for the last 3 seasons, my over- all aim of the team was for the boys to enjoy their football, whether it was training or matches and this is something I believe we achieved. I say we because a manager and team is only as good as the support it re- ceives from parents and the support has be superb, so thank you very much. Good luck to all the boys for the future. Rayleigh had finally reached the Premier Division and the season began with much promise following a friendly win under floodlights against Prem Division rivals, Stam- bridge United. The season proper began brightly and the team were unbeaten in their opening four games including an away win against eventual champions Canvey Island. Disaster struck in that game as keeper, Sam Levett broke his collar bone and James Heather was the man who courageously stepped in to fill the breach, doing a fantastic job for the team in Levett’s absence. Unfortunately the wheels came off the title challenge with a freak result against bottom
as the bad weather took hold, alcohol became the biggest hindrance to the season and performances suffered to match the hangovers! In spite of a season of mediocre performances the team were still good enough to finish comfortably in the runners up spot, behind Canvey who were to prove too good a team for Rayleigh to match. It was a freak season for injuries with three players suffering fractures and most players were losing their fitness as their capacity for alcohol and burgers grew! (No names men- tioned, Bates!!) Memorable moments of the season include a superb hat trick by Fuller against Hawkwell, Jim Howe’s sensational hat trick after coming on as sub against Leigh Rockets to turn the match from a defeat into victory. Fuller smashing Super James Heather’s windscreen against Coggeshall with a wayward shot, Levett taking over as Caretaker Manager, possi- bly the first player to play for, captain and manage a Rayleigh side in a single season. Not that he was any good in any role! Despite Chris Amoroso, Sam Levett and myself all managing at various times this season, I can also confirm I am the best Manager! On a serious note, I would like to thank everyone, who has turned up this season to sup- port the team, including my Assistant Manager, Chris Amoroso, the Amoroso family as a whole for their support of the team and myself. My thanks also go to anyone who has run the line. Special mention must go to our pitch secretary, Chris Hockett, a man who doesn’t receive the acknowledgements he deserves for his tireless work for the Club. Without Chris’s help and advice, this season would have been a real struggle. Many thanks Chris. Having taken over managing this team four years ago, I can honestly say it has given me great pleasure to work with a great team and a fantastic group of young men who have been a credit to the club. Firstly we would like to say well done to you all in the first year playing under 18’s football. With all of you in the younger age we came up against some strong teams with a lot of the players in the higher age group who were physically stronger but you proved to be a good match and were equal to them. With four new signings the make-up of the team changed from last year but you all fitted in from day one and we started the season strongly with some great football performances. Four players that we feel deserve special mentions are:- Ross Pitman – Always reliable, played in numerous positions (wherever I asked without complaint) and a fantastic attitude in training. Callum McClean – Top goal scorer again this year, sometimes unfairly criticised for missing chances (but man enough to take it) but with 20 goals you have proved yourself to be a great asset to the team (you still can’t take penalties though). Charlie Jones – Captain Fantastic, great attitude playing through pain most weeks. Dan Steerwood – Works nonstop throughout the whole game (also joint winner with Callum for ‘Worst Trainer’ award). Ryan Slater – With 10 goals you made a great contribution to the team. Also Mr. Utility, like Ross, played wherever I asked with no complaints. Other Thanks Angie Slater – Thanks Angie, without you we would not be playing each week. Russell Southwick and Gavin Pitman – Many thanks for linesman duty. Duncan Ward - For groundsman’ duties. Finally, Paul and I would like to say that you are a great bunch of lads with a fantastic team spirit and it’s a pleasure to be associated with you, but most importantly you are a credit to your families. Enjoy your summer and hopefully we will see ALL of you for the pre-season training. U18 D
With a newly formed team at the beginning of the season, it has been a real rollercoaster. With a bunch of real talented players we just never real- ly got going and has let us down a few times. Full credit to all the players because there have been weeks where I came away thinking that they would all give up if we had a real bad performance but the next week the same guys would turn up and be enthusiastic about playing football. We started on such a high after drawing 1-1 with a team that were supposed to be 2 divisions above us. Then with a three week break we came back ready but never picked up where we left off. Week by week however we were getting stronger but results were being snatched from us in the last few minutes. We finally got our win though in March which we fully de- served after battling so hard for the full 90 minutes. I couldn’t have wished for a better bunch of guys to work with in my first season of being a manager and have really enjoyed the season, no matter what the results
joyable last season of football before they go into mens’ football. Kevin

Adult Football
This was the inaugural season for adult football within Rayleigh FC and ofg the fjeld it has been as challenging on it. Unfortunately before a ball had been kicked both the proposed 1st XI and Reserve Team managers withdrew to personal reasons and taking up another post, so there the challenges
kin-Maclean taking the helm of the 3rd Team. We entered three teams in The Broch Mid-Essex League, a very unforgiving league which acts as a feeder into the Olympian Essex Intermediate league, so we knew the standard was good. On the player front John put together a squad who hit the ground running in Division 5 even leading the way at one point. Sadly results have slipped away from them since the turn of the year. The 1st XI and Reserves performed very well in preseason. Without a pitch due to cricket at Rawreth we trav- elled to very tough oppositjon (Old Southendians, Basildon Town, Byfmeet Rangers and a 6-1 victory
taking football winning many plaudits from neutrals and oppositjon. However being the youngest teams in the league it has been highlighted against some more experienced oppositjon where we have not got results in games we have dominated in open play. Both the 1st XI and Reserves have been in the top three in their respectjvely divisions with the Reserves puttjng a run together of 6 straight wins. Having dropped ofg the pace of late both stjll could maybe make the promotjon spots, but realistjcally it looks unlikely. So in our fjrst season we have consolidated positjons in each division a big achievement was having 5 players in the league representatjve team playing the Olympian Essex Intermediate League at Hornchurch Stadium. Paul Sims has done an outstanding job as Adult Secretary arranging all our fjxtures with oppositjon and referees. I know John agrees with me that without his efgorts we would not have made it through the season. The fact he has contjnued with this when personal circumstances have been at there most challenging for him is so admirable and I can not thank him enough for all his help and

56 Rayleigh Boys continues to touch the lives of many underprivileged children in South Africa. Our campaign to provide football boots and English football league tops (amongst other things) continues in earnest. Since the campaign started out a few years back, our efforts now reach a far wider audience and have been recognized as a huge positive influence on many children in South Africa. The most rewarding feedback to date was; “At a recent monthly meeting with the municipality, local football clubs and community ward councillors it was commented that the RBYFC’s on-going campaign has contributed to an increase in the number of youngsters joining the football clubs and therefore has reduced the number of children on the streets. This has contributed to a reduction in street crime and increased awareness of the importance of a safe and healthy lifestyle”. We are making a difference. More recently, our contacts on the ground have identified a local Witbank football club (Mayfair FC) that also campaigns for under privileged local children. This really is a worthy cause and very much in keeping with our own efforts so we will look to support them as our next initiative in South Africa. As this year’s football season draws to a close, please consider how you can help us help the children of these extremely poor communities. During the next couple of months many of us are likely to be buying our children new football boots, trainers or premier league football tops (obviously not West Ham!). Don’t let the replaced footwear or football tops gather dust in the wardrobe, please bag them up and provide to any committee member, or drop off to Danny at 24 Crown Hill, (07768 992021 / dannystalley@yahoo.co.uk). We can guarantee your donations will get to the most neediest of children providing a huge boost to them all. Many Thanks Danny Stalley

Chairman’s Trophy
The Chairman’s trophy (A 14” Shield) was donated in 2007 by Martin Shields to the club in memory of his late father who was also called Martin. Mark Chitty Trophy
Mark Chitty 1966-2006
Mark Chitty had a long association with Rayleigh Boys. He joined as a player in the 1970s and enjoyed a successful playing career until he left at the age of 16. He remained friendly with many of the founder members of the club and when his eldest son Cullen started to play football at the age of 5, Mark naturally in- troduced him to Rayleigh Boys. When the teams were formed at U7 there was a vacancy for a manager and so began Mark’s managerial career. He managed the team for the next 6 years un- til his tragic and unexpected death at the age of 39. While his team won promotion during the U11 season, success for Mark was not measured by the number of points achieved, but by the number of players he could involve in the sport he dearly loved. He would regularly risk losing a match to ensure every team member played a part in the game. As a tribute in perpetuity to Mark and the spirit in which he played football, the U13s Manager’s Player of the Season trophy will always be known as the Mark Chitty Trophy. The Mark Chitty Cup was donated to the club by his friends and this is contest- ed at the end of each season by a different 11-a-side age group. For many years Mark was a popular and respected member of Rayleigh Boys and while the club will continue to develop and grow, it has ensured that Mark’s memory will live on forever. This year the trophy was contested on the 15th of May.

The John Butler Trophy for Sportsmanship
The late John Butler was the grandfather of a current Rayleigh Boys U16 player, Char- lie Butler. John was a lifetime fan of both playing and watching football – he had been a team player, player manager, and manager then referee. John took an avid interest in local football and once his grandson started with Rayleigh Boys at the age of 4, nev- er ever missed a match. This dedication was exemplified by him turning up for an 8 a.m. meet on a freezing cold winters day to meet the rest of the team and their sup- porters to travel to a match together even though Charlie was away on holiday! John sadly passed away in January 2006 but left behind a legacy of championing the true ethos of the game – that of sportsmanship. To mark his involvement with the club his family purchased a perpetual trophy in his name to be given yearly to the player that demonstrates an understanding of this character trait; a player that is both a good role model and sportsman.
Adult Charity 5-a-side Tournament
On Sunday the 10th July at Rayleigh Town Sports and Social Club , Rayleigh FC will be holding their third annual 5-a-side tournament. Each year many aging boys (and girls!) patch themselves up to play football, annihilate each other (nicely of course) and most importantly raise money for charity. This year the club will be raising money for a young girl known to the club who is seriously ill with cerebral palsy amongst other ill- nesses; with funds being raised to help modify her house to be more suitable for her needs. If you are interested in taking part or helping out at this years tournament (we are always desperate for referees!) please speak to Martin or Neil or look out for e-mails with information and entry forms attached
