Chairman’s Report

The 2012-13 season had been a year of consolidation and improving what we already are doing within the

  • club. We have had a great year at our home ground of Chichester which has seen us improve our pitch lay-
  • ut and site safety, bringing in catering facilities (Clare’s Cabin) with a 4 star rating from the Rochford Food

Hygiene Agency. A big thank you to Clare, Margaret and Sue for all your hard work on Sundays. The ground is so well rated the 11 a side league have held cup semi finals and we have played more games (over 40 away games) on these this year than probably any other ground in the district in an unprecedented year of wet weather which saw the season extended twice to fit all games in. Chichester is the club’s future and gives us the scope to expand and be flexible to the changing needs of youth football, with a great ex- ample of this being we will have put in a second 9 V 9 pitch in as more teams move to this format. We con- tinue to work with the neighbours and Rawreth Parish Council to improve things. We are always looking for volunteers and support for what we are trying to achieve with slotting of all pitches being done, a drainage ditch and 200 trees planted to make a wind break all projects completed this year. Please always remem- ber our aim has always been to be good neighbours to the people of Rawreth, so can everybody please keep this in mind by using the facilities at Chichester responsibly. As a Club we hold Charter Community Status which is the highest level a club can achieve, this is not sole- ly down to the work of the Club Committee but to the training and hours put in by all our managers and coaches who dedicate endless hours to keeping teams running. We have just successfully completed our yearly re-assessment ,so to pass with flying colours is a great achievement for everybody. This year has seen further growth in our club with a steady flow of young players joining the club and all the way up to the Adults and Veterans. The teams are running well and keeping with the aim that a player can start at 7 years and keep playing until 65 a reality. King George’s Development Centre on a Saturday morn- ing is a hive of activity and we are constantly looking for more space which is a great problem to have and shows the team over there are certainly doing something right.! Following our successful charity tournament last year raising £17,000 for the charity CRY ,Olympus Keymed were so impressed they have funded 3 defibrillators to be situated at King Georges, RTSSC and Chichester so in the unfortunate event of any player or spectator having a seizure we will have trained vol- unteers who can use these. Doctors say you have a 200% better chance of survival using these compared to normal CPR. We will be the only club in Essex with these, so leading the way I hope for other clubs to follow our example. Well done to Neil Kirsh for all your work on the Charity tournament which has raised

  • ver £35,000 in 5 years for local causes.

On the field it has been a great year; player discipline has been good. We have a lot of league champions and runners up ,so all in all a good season but please all remember Rayleigh FC are about development and not winning at all costs. We are working in children’s football and we should also all applaud the teams that do not often win but turn out in rain, snow and wind every week to train and play in the hope they can improve.

Chairman’s Report

As normal I cannot write this without mentioning the Club Committee This year has seen a new member to the committee ,Paul Harcourt , ho has done great work this year and his enthusiasm and efforts are already being seen within the club. Whilst on the subject of the committee, I would like to thank all the committee members for their support with keeping the club running, some of whom do not now have children playing for the club. As I always do I would like to mention a couple of Committee members As you are probably all aware Brian Mitchell being awarded an MBE for all his work for youth football which is well deserved, Chris Hockett (Pitch Secretary) who has worked tirelessly to plan the fixtures; this is a thankless job trying to keep everybody happy with KO times whilst working with the leagues ever changing fixtures. Not many people realise this but Chris is also a big driving force at Chichester and spends hours helping out and marking pitches, I would also like to mention Colin Norfolk and Paul Quick the clubs two welfare officers who both ensure everybody has the right CRB checks done and Safeguarding children courses are attended whilst also dealing with any complaints on behaviour from within the club or against other clubs, which can never be fully resolved, but their commitment to Child safety is always their number one aim. Anybody who wants to try and make a difference to the club or wants to share their skills can join the Committee . No special training is required; all that is needed is enthusiasm and a will to want to see the club improve. Please contact any of the committee members if you are interested. One last request before my ramble ends for another year. Year on tear I see volunteers decline and the few people that are volunteering are getting less,. The club does not pay anybody, so without helpers the Rayleigh FC would not exist, so please when we ask for support b,e it a quiz night, helping at Rayleigh Town or Chichester, do not think somebody else will always do it , as they may not! The AGM this year will discuss the first increase in Registration fees in 8 years, we are still way below most of the other clubs in the district but with less help eventually we will catch them up, so please try and turn up when we ask for some support or share your skills by joining our Committee. Well done to all the managers, coaches and volunteers throughout the club for their hard work and commitment to their teams and the children. We would not survive without you all. Finally, well done to all the children and adults, who have played their hearts out for Rayleigh FC this Year. Remember win or lose always play fair and respect your opponents, and most of all enjoy it. Have a great summer, and look forward to a new and even more enjoyable season in the Autumn. Martin

The season has now come to an end and what a season it has been for this bunch

  • f boys who started their Rayleigh Boys football pathway over at the King Georges

Park just having a kick about with a ball. Fast forward two years and now here we are at the end of our first season together and what a transformation; I now have a great football team. All ten boys having contributed throughout the season, dealing with the harsh British weather that just went on and on, and the parents com- plained how cold it was at some of matches, so just think how the boys felt at sev- en years old in a football kit. Still, we carried on through it and I think it has helped to strengthen this team. During the season we have won some and lost some, but through it all the boys didn’t give up. I feel the boys should be very proud of their achievements at the end of their first ever season. I couldn’t off asked any more of them. I would like to thank Perry for his dedication, help and effort he has given the team, I know for a fact that I could not have done it without him and the boys all think he is great. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Phil and Lucy for keeping us all warm with the tea, coffee and biscuits on those cold winter mornings. Another spe- cial thank you to Gary, Duncan and Martin for your help in packing up the huge amount of kit each week, I was even thinking of entering Duncan into a competi- tion for the fastest time in dismantling and packing away of a Samba goal!! Every other parent and grandparent deserve some credit for their support on the sidelines each week that make this team what it is besides the children’s efforts. I am very much looking forward to next season and hope you are all too.

This has been the first season for the boys playing on a semi regular basis when the weather let us! The attitude of the team has been fantastic throughout the season and their desire to play football has been clear both in training and in matches. With a real mix of players it has often caused the selection headaches every manager wants when picking a team. Our season got off to a flying start with a 12-0 win followed up by a 4-0 victory and in two matches

  • ur goalkeeper, Adam, had hardly touched the ball! The boys were beginning to find their feet and

playing some good passing football in the matches adopting the passing mentality drummed into them in training and playing some good attacking football. With six wins from six matches going into December the boys were full of confidence including strong wins against some Lions teams. Mid De- cember brought a new experience for the boys with a battling 4-4 draw against Benfleet Youth but remaining unbeaten beyond Christmas was an excellent achievement for the team. Over the course of the winter we had experienced a number of postponed fixtures falling foul of bouts

  • f snow and waterlogged pitches which interrupted the boys flowing football. During this time we

drew a further two matches in some very tight games against Leigh Ramblers and Academy Lions. The season has finished now at the time of writing with only one defeat in 13 games which is an out- standing return for the first official season. Adam has had a solid season in goal, Archie, James (Mutley) and William have looked solid in defence throughout, Issac and Jaiden have provided flair and width to the team, Sam has been a goal machine up front. James C, Dylan and Zack have been the utility players filling the middle of the pitch or wherever they have been asked to play. A special thanks goes to Jo Lockhart for collecting the subs through the season and to all the parents for their encouragement and support of the boys. Plus a mention for Sara and Elena our better halves for putting up with the football commitments! See You all next year.

A FANTASTIC START !

Throughout our first season, a very weather affected team have showed some great charac-

  • ter. The team grew from its initial 9 players, to offer new places to 2 more boys during the
  • year. The way these boys integrated into the team was fantastic, and all involved helped keep

the team spirit upbeat. The boys showed some great abilities and won some hard fought matches, many times delighting us all with their with their footballing skills. All the boys should be proud of how they applied themselves, both in training and in their atti- tude in matches; they have all grown in confidence, and awareness of the game. Our results speak for themselves, as we grew in confidence as a team the results followed. I need to of- fer my appreciation to all who have helped with training especially Wayne whose joining has allowed our training to evolve and has made the team improve in many areas. Parents must be also thanked for brings the boys to training and matches, clean kits and sup- porting the team through all the cold and wet weekends! Here's hoping the boys have a great summer, play lots of football and come back ready to move forward! Andy

We have come to the end of what seemed like a very long season. It has been frustrating at times what with the weather and soggy conditions. The boys have really gelled this year and played well as a team. George joined us from the Tigers at the start of the season and has really found his feet. We got some good results after a shaky start (just like last season) not helped by the weather and so many cancelled games. We got some great wins. All the games were quite tough and we have come up against some great opponents. I think the most memorable games was against Leighwood

  • Lions. We only had 7 boys and they battled for the whole 40 minutes and got a well deserved draw

against the top team. I don’t think they liked our style of play. I’d like to say a big thank you to Ciaran Burke and Daniel Surgue for helping the team out by covering in goal; both played exceptionally well. Well done boys! Thanks to all the parents for your continued support, especially this season with so many false starts. Finally a special thank you to Mel for all her help with the admin and for the 100’s of texts she’s had to send for me this season! Dave Cannon

U8 Tigers

This years Tigers team was made up from 8 of the last seasons players with the welcome addition of our new goal keeper Mason who has proved to be a real asset to our squad. In our second season as a team, we have faced new challenges, the biggest one being the weather! The season started well with 6 wins and a draw all before Christmas. Due to our successful run we were placed in the league

  • above. This coincided with the start of one of the worst winters we have seen, which meant no football for 6 weeks. Our first game in

2013 in our new league saw a heavy defeat to Catholic United even though we produced some of our best passing of the season. This was a lesson learnt and we were quickly aware this was going to be a tough second half of the season. We soon settled with add- ed determination from the boys and started to play some good football against evenly matched teams. In-between all of the match cancellations we managed to play some good football, with improved passing and confidence which was gained from a weekly indoor training session. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the training sessions and I believe this led to us playing some of our best football. If I could pick out 3 of our best games the first would be against Canvey, where the boys showed that they could match a physical team by playing better football. This led to a deserved 2-0 win. Second would be to Hambro Colts away who had won all their games until we held them to a 2-2 draw. This was a great game where we matched them pass for pass and shot for shot. Third was Chalve- don boys where we played our best football of the season and ran out 2-1 winners with great goals, great passing, and a fantastic team attitude. I feel that being moved up a division has been a challenge but has improved the quality of the football the boys are

  • playing. This was seen in the last game of the season where we narrowly lost to Catholic United, a real change to the heavy defeat

they had inflicted on us as mentioned earlier. This shows how far we have come and the improvements we have achieved. The boys are now playing with confidence, improved skills and starting to form an understanding of being part of a team. It has been a pleasure for me to see the drills and games we practice in training are now being seen on match days. Well done Boys! This can only be achieved with the help from my two trainers Dan & Kev and the ongoing support of all the parents. A big thank you goes to you all. A special thank you goes to Deanna who puts in a tremendous amount of time ensuring everything runs smoothly and also keeps me in check. Lastly I would like to say thank you to my team of boys who make my weekend fun but challenging! It has been a pleasure for me to see them developing as Footballers, individuals and as a team. I feel extremely proud of what we are achieving and that next season we are going to go from strength to strength. Mark

U8 Leopards

If I can sum up the Leopards 2012-13 season in two words of football it was of “two halves”. With a new mix of boys we prepared well for the season ahead with a number of friendlies and tournaments. Lau- ren Phillips from the FA Tesco Skills also took a number of training sessions in September and October. The season started well. We played 8, winning 7 and losing 1 in the run up to Christmas. What was more apparent, scoring 43 and conceding 13 goals. However, of all the games, the one we lost to Leigh Rockets in October was our best performance. The team played out of their skins coming off at half time 3-1 down, to level twice, losing the game 5-4. We all clapped the players off the pitch. It summed up what grass roots soccer is all about. I was tremendously proud of the team. They dug in to the end with gritty determination displaying an end to end game putting into practice all they learn in training; quick attacking play and recovery defending. We begun playing different teams after Christmas which proved challenging. Often playing with just 7 players in weather conditions unprecedented before it certainly became a more level playing field for the U8 Leopards. We played 12, winning 2, drawing 5, and losing 5. The goal difference certainly altered as well! Again the determination to play, holding their heads up and amongst those few wins, having fun and taking defeat graciously was very evident throughout. We continued to have exciting games, including a prop- er ‘ding dong’ vs Leigh Ramblers Pumas in February where we came out of the blocks quickly only for Leigh to claw us back, letting us snatch victory 7-5. Further win against Trinity Youth in March, and a solid draw 1-1 vs Leigh Ramblers Pumas in April (who beat us 4-0 in January in snow!!) showed re- wards for the team consistent and persistent efforts. However, its not the win, lose, or draw that matters. There are stand out performance from all players in the team at various times during the season. They grew individually and as a team. We constantly saw practice in training displayed with purpose in

  • games. I hope to carry this forward next season. Thanks to the parents for their continued support,

positive encouragement, and getting the kids to the games on time. Particular thanks to Ian Duggan and his company Acclaim Contracts for sponsoring the team. He has agreed to sponsor our team into the 2013/14 season. Enjoy the Summer.

Although this is the second season for this team, the side has changed significantly from last year with 5 players leaving and 4 new players joining. This greatly affected the dynamics of the side, especially in the first half of the season as some of the new- er players found their feet and all of the players adjusted to their new roles within the team. The opening 6 games were mostly a true game of 2 halves with the Cougars either winning or holding their own at half time, only to collapse to defeat in the sec-

  • nd half. The awful weather hampered the Cougars progress a little, with many matches postponed and training sessions can-
  • celled. However, after a lot of hard work on the training ground, great support from the parents, and enthusiastic dedication

from the players, the second half of the season showed a huge improvement in results with only one defeat in 6 games and 2 wins and 3 clean sheets in the last 3 games. One pleasing development that took place in the transition from last season’s group of players to this year has been how the team is no longer so reliant on just 2 or 3 star players. In recent months my assistant and I have noticed that there are many more candidates each week for ‘player of the match’, or ‘trainer of the week’, as the players continue to learn and grow in confi- dence. I’ d like to thank Kevin Wheeler for all his help and support with coaching the players, Steve Vidler for helping out with training, Steve Barker for his occasional refereeing, and Mandy Milchard for help with the admin and managing the finances. I'd also like to thank all the other mums, dads and grandparents for support and assistance. Once again the support and enthusiasm in all weathers from the parents has been excellent. The Cougars: Conner Vidler– One of our newer players. Has made big strides in his development this season. A positive player, with sensi- ble determination in defence and promising skill in possession. Thom ‘The Terrier’ Wheeler— A livewire bundle of energy who ably protects the defence with a terrier-like tenacity. Has re- cently begun to use the ball well once it has been won in the tackle. Hayden Barker— Enjoys playing in defence and can be assertive, when he’s switched on. Also takes tremendous drop kicks when playing in goal. Daniel Milchard— Loves football. Has done well as goalie, particularly with his distribution. When in an outfield position he tries to pass to a teammate when he can, and has contributed a few goals too. Sam Green— Works hard for the team closing opponents down and is a strong runner with the ball, who is just starting to make telling contributions to our forward play too. Max McGee—Another very promising new-comer. His strength and determination has made a big impression on our defence. He makes good decisions regularly, and is a great striker of the ball. Kelsey Lucas— Another positive addition to the Cougars. The only girl in the team. An incredibly strong and tough competitor. A powerful dribbler who can carry the ball half the length of the pitch. Just starting to show glimpses of a positive end-product to those powerful runs. Teddy Cooper— The latest edition to the Cougars. Bruising in the tackle, and in recent games has started to make a real impression, showing quick feet and determination to bag a few goals. Freddie Mancktelow— A very consistent performer this year. Assertive in midfield. Shows some great touches of skill on the ball in tight places. A great ball-winner and passer of the ball. Has started to win headers and has scored goals too. George Manthorp— A great striker of the ball with good skills in his locker. Banged in the goals at the start of the season, and remains our top scorer. Paul Manctelow

As the first season for me with the newly "rebuilt" Puma's team I can say without a doubt that I am so proud of everyone one of the players. The change in attitude, ability and themselves is staggering and shows that with a little bit of hard work at training and a passion to play football can change a player for the better every time. Despite the bad weather, the boys have shown commitment and the urge to play well no matter what Mother Na- ture has thrown at them. This speaks volumes in the results especially after Christmas where it seems that all the boys went away and came back twice as determined as before. A big thank you to all Mum's and Dad's for their continued support as we all seem to forget that turning up and standing in the rain every Saturday is sometimes harder than it seems. Finally I would like to say a big thank you to Jonathan Barrett owner of Imagine a building company based in Romford who has given us sponsorship to allow us to buy new rain coats and a training kit. The 2012 / 2013 season continued where we had finished off from the previous season. We started with a good pre- season with winning the Catholic tournament which gave us the confidence to start the season brightly. The team continued to play well collectively (even with the best efforts of the British weather!) and we have developed into a strong unit, playing attractive football and gaining confidence on the pitch which has been very enjoyable to watch. The boys thoroughly deserve the runners up position in the league, and gaining promotion into Division 1, which will be a good challenge for all of us next season. Jack Hayes (Goalkeeper) – Jack’s hard work in training has definitely paid off and we are seeing the benefits on the pitch every weekend. Jack’s all round game has improved greatly and I regularly receive complements from other coaches on Jack’s excellent performances, a great shot stopper and commands his goal well – excellent season Jack, well done. Oliver Crickmay (Defender) – Ollie continued this season where he had finished last season, very strong in his de- fensive role and Ollie has a great appreciation of the game. Ollie reads the game well and always gives 100% contri- bution in training and in every game. His timely tackles and composure on the ball are great to see, well done again Ollie. Matthew Field (Defender) – Matthew has battled well in his defensive role this season, strong in a tackle and battles

  • well. When called upon in the final few games against stronger opposition, Matthew gave everything and really raised

his game to the strong challenges faced. Thank you for your contribution Matthew and well done. Morgan Thomas (Defender) – Whilst Morgan played most of his games in midfield last season, changes that we made for this season, Morgan adopted a defensive role which he has given 100% commitment too. Morgan links in well with Ollie and Matthew to give the team a stronger defence, a good season Morgan, thank you and well done. Max Martin (Midfield) – Max has had a good season, commanding the left midfield position well. Max seems to ap- pear in the right place at the right time to score some timely goals. Max battles well for the team and links in well with his team mates. Thanks for a good season Max and well done. Max Harrington (Midfield) – Max has had another great season, pivotal in his role in the centre of midfield, Max links up with his team mates well, strong in a tackle and always gives 100% contribution in every game. Max has great composure on the ball, reads the game well and has contributed with some great goals also. Excellent season Max, thank you and well done. Lewis Connett – (Midfield) – Lewis continues to add a spark to our team, he always gives 100% commitment and never forgets his defensive duties. Lewis has endless energy and makes excellent runs and never afraid to take on an opposition player. Lewis has scored some fantastic goals this season, thanks again Lewis for another great sea- son and well done. Ethan Arnold – (Striker & Defender) – Ethan has had another good season, whilst preferring to be in the strikers position, he has supported the team well when placed in a defensive role, where he has excelled. Once again Ethan has deputised in goal for Jack and whilst limited opportunity up front has contributed with important goals this season, well done again Ethan for a great season. Sam Hayden – (Midfield & Striker) – Sam has had another good season, whilst in midfield he complements the team well with adding pace on the wing and links in well with his team mates. Whilst in the striker’s position, his driv- ing runs and finishing in front of goal have been great to watch. Well done Sam for another great season. I would like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the year from getting the boys to training, match ven- ues and putting up the goals. Also a special mention must go to Scott who has supported us with both training and at

  • ur games. Thanks Scott for your support and contribution it is appreciated. We look forward to next season in Divi-

Collectively, the boys have had a good season this year, we honestly started the season with genuine ambition to win promotion, but it hasn’t quite worked out that way and we have finished mid table. However, I would like to think that the boys have learnt a lot, particularly around having to play as a team and winning as a team. It is an approach that Mark and I believe in and one that we will keep trying to improve on with the boys. At the end of last year, 2 boys (originals) left the team and have been replaced by Will and Louis, both welcome additions who have enhanced our (already) good team. Ambition is the same for next season, promo- tion…..I think we will get much closer to that next year! We have a few summer tournaments coming up (3 of which would have passed by the time you all read this) and so enjoy the summer (and the break) and I look forward to next season already. I have put a short summary of each player’s progress also. Regards, Gary Benjamin Houghton Benj has had another consistent season, the biggest compliment I can give him is that he gets less attention from Mark and I than anybody else in the team, but always puts in consistent performances. Benj is a crucial part of our team and Mark and I both recog- nise how good he is, every week. His bravery and shot stopping is better than any other keeper in the division. Well done Benjamin Adam Stokes Adam does a good job for Mark and I every week. He plays in defence to help the team out, despite aspirations to play in midfield! He has had his chance to play in midfield and has done well there also. His physical strength is a great asset to the team and his passing ability has definitely improved this season also. Well done Adam Ben Ferguson I probably said this in last year’s notes, but he is our Mr Reliable. Ben makes defending look very easy at times, his timing in the tackle is excellent and he always plays the ball very simple. He can use both feet and is not afraid to header the ball. He also plays in defence every week and understands that the team need him there and that he is extremely good in that position. Well done Ben Kyle Blackbourn Kyle has had a very consistent season, he started this year in midfield but from the turn of the year has played at the back and has played very well there. I have noticed a big improvement in his passing and his confidence when in possession of the ball. Kyle also recognises that he is very good in defence and never complains about playing there. Well done Kyle Will Hart Will joined the team in the summer last year and has had a very good season, he has played most of the year in midfield and has done very well there. He is a popular player with all the boys and has settled in really well. He is a strong player who is not afraid to tackle and is starting to become a good team player. A good season Will Max London Max had had a consistent season. He is a very good all round midfield player who can run with the ball and pass it. His tackling is also improving. Max is also very popular with all the other boys and overall is a pleasure to coach. His character is infectious on the boys and brings out the best in others. A good season Max Joe Grainger Joe has had a good season. He has played in midfield this year but has still finished as the team’s top goal scorer with 9 League and Cup goals. He talk’s football, breathes football and it has showed this season. He is a very good team player and always tries to pass the ball, where possible. He is also not afraid to put his head and the ball and is trying to use both feet. Well done Joe Swayley Yeates Sway has had a good year. He is a very good team player who always encourages his teammates, whether he is playing or not. His technique on the ball is improving and he now looks to pass the ball to his teammates when they are better placed than him. Keep trying next year Swayley and I am sure the goals will continue to go in! Well done Sway Tommy Major Tommy has had a good season. Tommy has played up front this season, which I still believe is his best position. Mark and I really rate Tommy as a striker and know that the goals will come, he just needs to continue to work hard when we don’t have the ball. Tommy is a popular member of the team and wants to improve, which he undoubtedly will. Well done Tommy Louis Drayson Louis joined us at the end of January this season and has been excellent for us. He scored 8 league and cup goals in that time, which is a great return. Another game and he surely would have passed Joe as leading scorer! His ability to shoot from distance is

  • excellent. He does need to continue getting his head up and looking for other teammates, but that will come as he settles into the
  • team. Well done Louis

One League game still to be arranged

This season once again the team (players and parents) have been a pleasure to manage. The team is committed to working together and all of the players have put in 100% effort every week, even when the results have gone against us – after losing 3-0 at Southend Manor in the snow, the referee came over and asked how we had managed to lose the game!! That game summed up our season, it saw a mixture of results, playing well and not winning and struggling in games and getting a win - football’s a funny game!. This was mainly due to a weather affected season meaning that we could not get any consistency. Like many teams this season, we had been unable to play more than a few games in a row before missing a couple of weekends due to the incredibly wet weather we have suffered. We end the season in mid table (with one game still to play, finishing between 4th and 7th), and as we analyse the sea- son it has been thoroughly enjoyable, win, lose or draw. Looking at the record this season defensively we have been very constant, thanks particularly to our goalkeeper (Jamie Hepburn) who has been amazing consistent-well done. The defence of Callum, Matthew and Tom have matured and are becoming sounder and more competent. This al- lows our lynchpin Max, and midfield of Owen, Joshua, Marni and Nathan (only 21 goals this season!) to attack with a degree of confidence. Well done to you all. Andy and myself continue to learn more about the team, and enjoy the tears and laughter that managing this team brings with it. We are already looking forward to next season. We would like to thank Royle Erysthee for refereeing our matches, Clearwater and Maiax Glazing & Construction for

  • ur kit and rain jackets.

Finally Andy and I would like to acknowledge our wives (Anita and Anna’s) understanding, as we spend hours organ- ising the tournament, cutting and marking pitches, analysing matches and discussing different training ideas on the phone. Paul and Andy

Our second season as a team has been absolutely fantastic every way you look at it. The children have developed both individually and as a team. Louis and Sam have settled into the team really well and have excelled during their first season; Jamie’s switch to goalkeeper has been as good as a new (star!) signing. Nearly everyone has had the chance to play in a different position this year and in training we have continued our approach of coaching the children all aspects of the game, rather than simply showing them a set position. In terms of matches we have been in a very strong division this season and the team has faced chal- lenging matches nearly every week. This has been excellent for our development and we have played some terrific football at times. Some of our best performances have come against the strong- est teams we have faced and although we may not always have won, we have been excellent and I am delighted with how we have played. We have also played a number local derby matches which we have come through undefeated and with some notable wins. A review of this season would not be complete without mention of our fantastic cup run which took us to the semi-final of the Tigers Cup. Away in every round, we were outstanding – especially away at Leighwood who are a division above us. Thank you to our sponsor, CDC Building and Carpentry, and all the mums, dads and family members for your help and support. We have thoroughly enjoyed the season and we hope you did to. James & Shaun.

So there we were entering the new season with both excitement and trepidation. After the hugely successful previous campaign we knew that this year was going to be a lot more difficult pitting ourselves against a better standard of team, and so it was to turn out .We welcomed a new face in Harrison and were delighted with the return of previous player of the year Bradley. Our first outing was against Forest Glade who were duly put to the sword in a 5/1 stroll , had we overestimated this division ?? Next a trip to sunny Great Wakering and a reality check a 2/3 reverse that left the management scratching our heads as to how we had lost whilst the oppo were high sixing (not a typo !!) , indeed normality was restored a week later when a repeat of this fixture resulted in a comfortable 2/0 win to the Orangemen ! Then came a defeat to Dark Lane a team we always have a great game against and the 4/2 score maybe flattered them as we were chasing the equaliser they nicked a 4tth. Then

  • ne of my favourite games a 2/1 hard fought victory against a very well drilled Catholic team, the winning goal

coming from a trade like Alex penalty , hit so hard probably would have knocked the keeper out had he been stupid enough to get in the way. As with all wins against Catholic it was accompanied by the usual parent moan- ing then whingeing on the website the following week ! Indeed a sweet victory !! Next back to the land of inter family matrimony and a 3/2 reverse vs Wakering Lions after being 2/0 up , I cant gripe it was a good game. Then the blip did kick in, a run of 4 defeats including a 9/3 walloping by runaway league leaders Wickford (we did manage to draw the second half !!) Despite the results the boys still played with a smile on their faces and were a credit to their families. Come back we did and at time of writing we are enjoying a 4 game unbeaten streak including 6-0 and 6-1 victories but most satisfactory a 3-3 against leaders Wickford that we were very unfortunate not to win ! We have successfully consolidated ourselves mid table and look forward to the challenges ahead as we move

  • nto 9 a side and a new chapter in the boys footballing education. A few words of thanks. Firstly , to the boys ,

yet again this season you have made me immensely proud in both the way you have ALL progressed as foot- ballers but also conducted yourselves in defeat and in victory .I may have a few more grey hairs but I wont com- plain as I have thoroughly enjoyed it . Secondly to Les who has , if truth be told been more involved that me this year with all these silly runs I have been doing !! Also to Bunny for the warm ups and warm downs you have been great and the kids think the world of you !! Frankie for being number 13 trainer , Paul for coffee , Tony for being number 1 supporter every Saturday and Sunday and to all the parents for their continued well behaved support and encouragement to all the kids !! Overall the boys have had a good season which started better than could have been imagined; winning our opening 3 games against teams that finished very well the previous season and scoring 15 goals along the way. However, a loss to a team that we believed was the easiest of the opening 4, coupled with disruption due to weather and the departure of a player, led to losing the next 7 of 8

  • games. But we recovered well to finish a respectable mid table.

Results tell only half the story. The boys have grown in confidence and ability as the year has progressed. They have all learnt to play as a team and not just as a team of gifted individuals this year; Defending and attacking as a team. The boys have used their strength, size and speed to command games. Tackling and heading have really come on this year and have enabled us to add a physical element to their game which had been lacking in previous years. It is the performance and energy that the boys give to each game that is most impressive and really is all we ask. There are 2 games that really stick out for me this season; differing results but tremendous team performances. The first was a cup game against a Division 1 Leigh Ramblers team who finished mid table. We were clearly the underdogs and had no substitutions. But with 10 minutes to go it was 1-1. Unfortunately, tired legs meant we could not sustain the result but what fantastic achievement. The second was the final game of the season where we played a technically good and physical Wickford Town. But great build up play and fantastic finish followed by a team performance to defend and break on the counter and a goal keeper on the top of his games, meant we achieved a good result but even better performance. It was a challenge again accommodating 3 substitutes in matches but we have tried to be as fair as we can by giving the boys equal playing time to aid there development, which will benefit us as we move through the ages with a stronger all round team. Adopting this approach we believe we have seen great improvements across the team. However, this was greatly improved with the departure of a player over winter, leaving us with only 2 substitutes. Once again we would like to thank you all for your support as parents because without you this would not be possible; ensuring that the boys get to training and matches on time and supporting them on match days with your extended families in many cases. We all want the best for the boys and your feedback throughout the year has enabled us to hopefully achieve the best for our boys. We would again like to thank Kevin for his role as team referee for our home match days. The referee is an important but thankless role, so a big thank you. Another successful year in the boys football development and I am looking forward to a new challenge with 9 a side football next season. Dave and Darren

This season has been the first experience of playing football for the majority of this team, although you wouldn’t believe it, when reflecting on their dedication, effort, determination and great team work. The result of third place is truly fantastic and each and every one of them should be so very proud of themselves. All the boys have shown great strength and stamina to not only get this result at the end of their first season together but also surviving the extreme weather we have had thrown at us each week in league games and training. I wanted to thank them all for being a delight to coach and to watch them all develop their skills and awareness of the game both on an individual scale as well as sup- porting and helping each other. I couldn’t ask for a better bunch of boys. We have a new challenge ahead of us now moving to nine -a-side and I am excited to see them develop further and tackle new challenges ahead of them in the 2013/2014 season. I would like to thank Rob and Justin for their time and effort they have shown throughout the season, helping to coach the boys and support them. Thanks also to Martin and Andy for stepping in as referees and Mark and Martin for their tireless efforts forking the pitches and willing the extreme amounts of water in the ground to drain away. Not forgetting the rest of you mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and un- cles for your continued support on those very wet and very cold sidelines each and every week. Last but by no means least we are all very grateful to TFS Loans for their continued interest and support for the team in so many ways. Adrian Stoddart

U10 Pumas

It has been another great season for the Pumas! After finishing 3rd in the 6th Division last year and winning our mini league, we took a calculated risk and asked to go up to the 5th Division. I don’t think anyone expected us to do so well in such a competitive league – finishing 4th this year! The boys have really progressed as a team this season, and some of the football we have played has been an absolute joy to watch. It is amaz- ing to think that the team was only put together last season, yet they play as if they have been together for years! Their enjoyment and enthusi- asm for the game shines through in every match they play, and comments I have received from opposing Managers (sometimes grudgingly) about how well we have played is testament to how much they have improved as a team. Next season will bring fresh challenges when we move to 9v9, (bigger goals / pitches, the offside rule!!) but I feel sure that the boys will cope with these and go on to better this season’s achievements. Well done boys – it has been a pleasure (most of the time!) to coach you this year! Ross Barnes – Goalkeeper (the complete goalkeeper, superb reactions, great handling, and an enormous goal kick – I’ve not seen a better goalkeeper this year) Nathan Hicks – Defender (a very good season for Nathan, a superb tackler and has made huge improvements in his all round game) Phillip Mannerings – Defender (plays the sweeper role exceptionally, reads the game so well and has formed an excellent partnership at the back with Nathan) Joe Southwood – Midfield (an energetic midfielder who never gives less than 100% , a strong runner with the ball and very brave in the tackle) Adam Nobles – Defence / Midfield (fantastic energy and will to win – never stops running. Continued improvement in his all round game and it was great to see Adam score his first goal!) Jack Maguire – Defence / Midfield (another fantastic season for Jack – midfield or defence Jack excels wherever you ask him to play. Great tackling, fantastic energy and can score goals – the complete player) Ewan Short – Midfield (a determined, enthusiastic player with a good eye for a pass. Has continued to improve with every game this season) Harry Gorman – Midfield (an exceptional goal return (14) from Harry this season and has also provided plenty of assists as well – a very good attacking midfielder who has had a great season) Tommy Williams – Midfield (a great box to box midfielder with a good eye for a goal. A versatile, composed footballer with great ener- gy) Connor Liddall - Striker (top scorer again this season with 25, a scorer of great goals as well as a great goal scorer, his overhead kick in our last home game had to be seen to be believed – a great season for Connor) Ronnie Simpson – Striker (a late addition to the team in Jan, Ronnie has already impressed with his eye for a goal, intelligent runs and great passing ability) A few thank you’s…. A big thank you to Alex for all of his help, advice and assistance in running the team this season. I could not have done it without him. Only let down by his questionable choice in football shirts that he wears to training (mainly the pink Southend one!) To Richard and Jay, for all of the support and help they have given me and the team during the season.. To all the parents / grandparents / friends – thank you so much for the support you have given the boys this season. It is great to hear the encouragement you give the team in each game. We also really appreciate the help in setting up the goals and pitch before games. Just as a warning for next season – I will be looking for people to run the line next year (Neil B), so if you see Alex or me approaching with a flag before the game – run! To Brad Nobles – a big thanks for refereeing our home games. Never an easy job, Brad showed a maturity beyond his years when dealing with certain situations during our games. We really appreciated his

  • help. Last but definitely not least, a huge thank you to the Manager of the team, my wife Karen. Still the brains behind the team (or so she tells

me) and an absolute saint to put up with me banging on about football all the time. We couldn’t run the team without her! Well done Pumas - looking forward to next season! Chris.

Goalkeeper Training

We have just completed our third season of dedicated goalkeeper train- ing within Rayleigh FC. Throughout the season we have held monthly train- ing sessions at Spring Gardens for many of the club’s goalkeepers from U6 up to U16. The sessions have been well attended, particularly by our mini soccer keepers. I would like to thank my fellow coaches, Dave Barker and Rob Smith for all their hard work throughout the year which has helped to develop the keepers. In addition, we have been really lucky to have had the support of Martin Shields (Jnr!) , James Sanders and Adam Kirsh when coaching the children. Thanks, as your support has been inval-

  • uable. We are intending to send these coaches on the L1 Goalkeepers

course over the next couple of years to increase the expertise within the coaching staff The biggest thanks goes to the keepers who have turned up each month in the cold, rain and ice to improve their goalkeeping skills and techniques. Well done! You have all been absolutely fantastic. Lee Harrison, Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeping coach, recently held a training session at RTSSC with all funds donated to GOSH. Many thanks to Lee for this. Dave Barker has also raised money for GOSH by selling GK for GOSH gloves for £20 each. Please speak to Dave if you would like to buy a pair for your child, The sessions will continue at Spring Gardens next season at a cost of £1.50 per keeper. Details are on the website. All coaches have CRB’s and hold either Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualifications. Thanks for your support and we look forward to coaching your children next season and

  • beyond. Have a great summer.

Premier League Champions Again

Having left mini soccer as premier league champions, we knew making the transition to 9 a side would be made all the harder as the team to be shot at. The first objective of the summer was to increase the squad and we were delighted to welcome Daniel, Taylor, Teddy and James (after Xmas) to bring some real quality and competition to the team. Steve and I, in agreement with the parents, decided we would coach the boys to play a style of football that is learnt in Academy’s and at the professional level in the modern era (obviously not al- ways at SUFC). We selected a GK - 3-1-3-1 formation that would enable the boys to pass the ball out from the back and through midfield, switch play into wide areas thus creating a lot of chances. The freedom of this has been evident in some notable performances, in particular against a very good Leigh Ramblers side (winning a double header 6-0 and 4-0). Also at Hawkwell where Lewis finished off a 6 man passing move which started with Alex rolling the ball out to James and when the ball hit the net it hadn’t left the grass. However pleasing the style of attacking play has been, the success of the team has been built on a solid, aggressive, dominant and well organised defensive unit. 12 clean sheets and only 9 goals conceded in 18 league games is an awe- some achievement and isn’t just down to the Gk or his defence but to the work ethic of the whole team. With 2 points needed from our last 2 games against Benfleet we found ourselves in a winner takes all situation to decide the league title. The desire to win and play good football in a pressure situation enabled us to draw 0-0 and win 2-1 with 2 top class finishes from Ted and Matty. As league champions and a cup final to come (update; runners up) the team spirit and team ethic of the boys has enabled us to have the consistency this

  • year. Some big Thank You’s now. To Steve Sullivan who as manager up until Xmas deserves huge credit in the

progress that the boys have made. To Brian Clements who acts as team secretary and makes everything run efficiently off the pitch. And also to all the parents for their support of the team, coffees, goal building, and run- ning the line. And finally, to all the boys for having the hunger and desire to constantly improve and for making me proud of you all. Same again next year!!! U11 Green

The 2012/2013 season was a much improved season for the Greens. Pre-season went well with the acquisition of 5 new players, Ben, Kieran, Peter, Jack and Harvey and some good performances in the Trinity and Canvey United

  • tournaments. The Greens flew out of the starting blocks at the start of the season remaining unbeaten until the Christ-

mas break. Unfortunately it became apparent that the boys were fair weather players and the bad weather along with delays in the season resulted in a bad run of form and therefore results. The boys battled well over the last few weeks

  • f the season which bodes well for our challenge for the title next season.

Joseph Shields (Goal Keeper) continued where he left off last season with some great performances for the Greens. Many opposing Managers have congratulated Joseph on his displays after he has shut out there attacks. Tom Couchman (Defence) has finally found his best position on the left side of defence where his tough tackling and speed has prevented countless scoring opportunities. Daniel Barton (Defence) has been a colossus for the Greens this season, he’s no nonsense style of defending has foiled numerous attacks and has helped organise the defence on the pitch. Ben Cudby (Defence) in his first season in football impressed at the start of this season with a couple of man of the match winner performances. Ben continues to improve and is growing in confidence. Joshua Smith (Holding Midfield) answered the call by the coaching team to play in a more defensive role this season in front of the back two. Josh has made this role his own with some excellent defensive displays and linking the de- fence with the midfield. Peter Sena (Central Midfield) one of our summer signings has proved to be a great asset to the team. His ability on the ball is as good as anyone’s in the league and his winning attitude rubs off on all his team mates. Daniel Blows (Central Midfield) found himself fighting to hold on to his position in central midfield at the start of the

  • season. Daniel’s energy, enthusiasm and graduation from the Paul Scholes School of tackling has enabled him to

compete anywhere in midfield. Jack Rumsey (Central Midfield) in his first season with the Greens has developed into a great player for the team. His footballing brain and vision, along with always giving 100% on the pitch has led to him becoming one of the first names on the team sheet. Zachary Ward (Right Wing/Defence) in his second season with the Greens has continued to be a great attaching force, creating scoring opportunities for the team. Zac has also demonstrated he is equally comfortable in defence when needed. Harvey Boston (Left or Right Wing) in his first season in football, has the ability to become a good player for the

  • team. His speed and no stop running is his greatest asset and has netted some important goals for the Greens this

season. Kieran Lowe (Striker/Left Wing) another of the Greens new signings this season is our top scorer this season with 11 goals (including a hat trick). Please be careful on your new bike over the summer, we need you in one piece for the new season ahead. Joe Lovett (Striker) has played an unselfish role as our loan striker, holding up the ball and linking up with the mid-

  • field. Another of our hat trick heroes this season was awarded his trophy in the royal box at Wembley.

Jake Parker (Midfield/Striker) was a late signing for the Greens this season. He has quickly shown he will be a great asset to the team and we look forward to working with Jake next season. Henry Taylor (Defence/Midfield) played for the Greens for the first half of the season before changing codes to Rug-

  • by. We wish him well with his new sport.

Barry, John and Ian would like to thank all the parents and spectators for their support and would like to say how proud of the team we were this season. Here’s to a table topping 2013/2014 season.

After gaining promotion from the 3rd to the 2nd division last year, it has been very much a learning curve for us this year in our first season at

  • 9v9. The introduction of the offside rule (nightmare!), bigger pitches, goals and teams (4 new boys joined us this year) provided fresh chal-

lenges for us this season, but as I write this, we are sitting comfortably in mid-table after a strong finish to the season. A testament to how well the boys have done this year in a tough division. The boys have played some amazing football this season, sticking to the principles of passing the ball, while often playing against the “more direct” approach of other teams. It has been great to see that this has paid off with some excellent victories over some strong teams. Everyone in the team has improved over the course of the season, and it has been great to see the team become stronger with each game. A real team spirit has developed and it is brilliant to see the boys playing for each other and really enjoying their football. Next season will bring new challenges, but we feel that this team is more than capable of building on this season’s achievements and going on to better

  • them. Well done boys!!

Ben Porter – Goalkeeper (The best goalkeeper I have seen at this age group – amazing reflexes, great handling and in- credibly brave. Christian Rungay – Defence / Midfield (a strong, committed defender with great energy who has played with a lot of confidence and has made real progress this season) Owen Hicks – Defender (very disciplined, enthusiastic defender who again has shown great all round improvement this year) Joe Whittaker (C) – Defender / Midfield (a welcome return to the team in November for Joe after a serious injury, a strong tackler, great vision and composure with his passing) Matthew Enderson –Defence / Midfield (a versatile, composed footballer with a great engine – can play anywhere on the pitch) Charlie Else – Midfield / striker (a genuine box to box midfielder, with great vision, dribbling ability and an eye for a goal) Sam McGilligan – Midfield / Striker (top scorer again this season – a pacy, creative footballer with great finishing ability – links the midfield with the attack so well) Dillon Ewin – Midfield (great dribbling ability, loves to get forward into the box and score – continued improvement to his all round game) Brook Wilkins – Striker (lightning pace allied to great dribbling skill and an explosive shot, makes Brook a nightmare for opposing defences) Sam Richardson – Defender (cultured, strong defender, who reads the game so well with perfect timing in his tackles) Riley Hope – Striker (a versatile footballer who can play in midfield or up front, a good eye for a pass and has also scored a few goals in his first season) Lewis Haywood – Striker (provides great balance and pace to the team on the left, and has an absolute hammer of a left foot shot) Alex Lock – Defender (a strong, committed and quick defender who never gives less than 100% - has shown great en- thusiasm in his first season)

A few thank you’s….Brian Whittaker – has always been there to offer help, support and advice to both the team and us this sea-

  • son. His passion for the team is without question and his assistance has been invaluable once again. To all the parents / grand-

parents / friends – many thanks for the support you have given to the boys this season. It gives them so much encouragement to hear you shouting your support for them and constantly drowning out the opposition!! We would also like to thank you for all the help with setting up / taking down the nets etc. The Linesmen – a first for us this season – and for most of the parents as well! That linesman’s flag is truly a poisoned chalice, and we would like to thank everyone who has had the unenviable task of running the line for us! Thanks guys - looking forward to next season!! Champions! Harry Seadon, Alex Davies, Sam Martin, Taylor Turner, Archie Davis, Zach Wing, Charlie Young, Danny James, Danny Lanning, Joe Vaufrouard, Matt Barnes, Jack Stickings, Riley Bott, and Harry Dell. As I write this piece, it is now in the knowledge that we have been promoted to the premiere league as Champions! So far, we have played 16 games, won 14 and lost 2. Our Goal difference is 37 If we win the last two games, we will have a record! Whatever happens, Mark and I want to take this opportunity to thank a few different people: John – for being our linesman (assistant ref), so fairly every week. It is one less thing we have to think about. Suzanne- for dealing with the subs and ref fees. John S and Wayne for helping out at training and stepping in when one of us is unable to be there. To our parents for helping out with the pitches on match days at home. Knowing that all that help is there makes it a lot easier for us and really helps with the continuity and lon- gevity of the team. Most importantly we need to thank all the boys for their continued efforts and their achievements this sea- son it really needs to be applauded. They put up with our funny ways and rules at training and on match days. All the lads put the effort in to attend Saturdays and Sundays even though it has been a long season and we hope that we are all going to be together for the season ahead. P W D L F A 12 8 3 1 41 16 We finished in 2nd place in Division B which is an excellent achievement by our team. We only lost one game all season (to Orsett) but gained revenge in the return match. We also got the better of top side Benfleet but three draws meant we just lost out

  • n top spot. Nevertheless, we should be pleased with the season as a whole.

Our new outfield players Samuel Norris, Harry Smith and Sam Hughes performed brilliantly and have really improved our squad. Samuel impressed with quick breaks, Harry scored some great goals and Sam was Mr Reliable in centre midfield. Our defence Edward Mitchell, Matthew James, Luke Golding and Greg Tagg have all been outstanding this season and conced- ed only 16 goals which really gave us a solid platform to build on. In goal, Adam Rice has had a tremendous season having worked on his shot stopping, kicking and his general awareness of the game improving considerably. Elliott Kelly also performed well in goal when required. On the right wing Rory Gregory worked tirelessly all season and his pace and skill made sure we turned defence into attack. Rory was also our top scorer with 10 goals. Gabriel Gosden performed well throughout, his goal against Orsett made all the difference in a must win game. Jonathan Travers always gives 100% and made sure we were com- petitive in centre midfield in tight games. Up front James Dennison was a constant threat and his all-round effort was tremen- dous, never giving the opposition time or space. James also scored some great goals. Special mention must be made to Jenson Warmer who played well during his six games earlier in the season. It was a difficult winter, weather wise, but we should be very proud of the boys’ effort and commitment as a team. They worked hard for each other and fully deserve 2nd place. We must thank Andy, Jason, Noel, Gary and Colin for all their help. Thanks also to Claire for being our team secretary. Dean/Dave

Player Season Summary 11/12 Goals 11/12 Games Total Games Adam Rice

Great season from Adam with some crucial saves made that meant we went on to win important games. Very brave in 1 on 1 situations.

12 53 Matthew James

Matthew really has done well this season. He has formed a great partnership with Luke in the centre of defence and has improved his positional sense and communication.

Another great season from Luke. Is strong in the air, quick on the ground and good on the ball, not many forwards got the better of Luke this season.

Edward has gained in confidence this season, has shown great skill when attacking and scoring his first goals this season. A modern day full back who defends and attacks.

2 13 104 Sam Hughes

Sam basically stops opposition attacks and starts our own attacks from midfield he makes it look that easy. A great reader of the game and a fantastic first season.

1 13 13 Samuel Norris

Probably the most creative player in the team, great with the ball at his feet and has a good shot on him. His first season and settled in straight away with our style of play.

6 13 72 Jonathan Travers

Jonathan has great energy in midfield he doesn’t stop chasing & harassing the opposi- tion, a real team player who keeps on improving.

Most improved player this season. Played at right back and impressed me with his im- provements in controlling and passing the ball under pressure.

13 50 Rory Gregory

A goal scoring winger with pace & skill and a desire to work hard every game. The best right winger in our league this year. Also our top scorer.

10 13 101 Gabriel Gosden

Gabriel has improved this season has good awareness of team mates and his strength is his link up play and control.

2 11 100 James Dennison

James is a team player, who tirelessly closes down defenders. A striker whose hold up play belies his age and along with a great touch he keeps attacks going. A good finisher

8 12 101 Harry Smith

Harry is very good attacking player. He can play on the wing, up front or even playing off the striker. Probably the best finisher in the team.

The team have managed to finish runners up and achieved promotion. This has been a very successful season with great results in both League and Cup campaigns, with the boys having shown what they can achieve when working as a “TEAM” hopefully they take this into next season. May the “TEAMWORK” long continue. Have a good break Boys and I look forward to seeing you all next Sea- son. Well Done Neil. What a good year for the team. It’s been a pleasure watching the boys develop into a positive passing team: who on many occasions have cut through the oppositions defence. Team this up with accurate finishes, strong defending and goalkeeping, we have become formidable opponents. Anthony I feel we have had a really positive season with the team having some outstanding results especially in the County Cup, even though we did lose a couple of games I do feel that we were the stand out team in that division, however the boys will have to realise that go- ing up that level, and I’m sure they will want to complete on a weekly basis, they will have to up their levels in training and this will surely transfer on to the pitch. Cheers Steve. From us all, thanks Les for your continued support and expertise in training, something which has without doubt contributed to this years success. Final mention for everyone who has run the line and those who should have !!

After the disappointment of last season & lack of committed players, we went out pre-season to sign some new players & keep the team going with the 8 players we had left. We managed to sign another 7 players just in time for the start of the season. A couple of hastily arranged friendlies were squeezed in so we could see the players together & work out positions as quickly as possible before the season kicked off. In the opening league game, despite playing some good football, the ball wouldn’t go in & we lost a game that they would’ve won on any other day. We then had a tough Cup match against a team who should’ve been in the division above & again ended up on the losing side. The team then got their first win of the season, after going behind, they came back strongly to win

  • comfortably. We hoped this was a turning point but then we went onto lose the next 3 games. Along the way we unfortunately lost

Reece & Ray Pocock & I would like to thank them both for their efforts over the years. So after an inauspicious start, we faced an up- hill rest of the season, after playing 6 & losing 5. Alex Smith then boosted the team joining from Ashingdon. We secured a hard fought victory over Leigh & then lost to an unbeaten Millwood side that topped the league. We also managed to pick our first ever yellow card! The Xmas break did wonders for the team, as they came back invigorated & Jacques Lynch re-joined the team. Fitz bragging rights were then won by the team in a comfortable win over Hambro. This seemed to fuse the boys together and their desire to win, playing some excellent football. Whilst a lot of clubs suffered with the weather, the Chichester ground soldiered on, helping us to play

  • regularly. The team then went onto win 6 straight games scoring 25 goals & only 8 conceded. Our last 3 games were against the top 2

teams, both undefeated, with 1 of them a double-header. Against top of the league, the team played some great football & dominated the game. After being 1 up & 2-1 up, we eventually lost 4-2. It was a tough lesson, but stronger opposition will punish mistakes, but we gave them their 2 hardest games this season & were unlucky to lose. In the double header the boys undeservedly lost 1-0 when the referee & opposition played on despite a head injury to 1 of our defenders & scored. The boys played the better in the 2nd game draw- ing & were unlucky not to score a deserved winner. In summary, it really was a season of 2 halves & also the longest season on rec-

  • rd. The team finished a very creditable 3rd/4th which was well above expectations at the start of the season. Although the results in

the 1st half of the season were disappointing, the football played was good, which I believe gave them the basis to build on in the 2nd

  • half. They have gelled really well together & their playing positions have stabilised into their most natural & strongest positions. The

foundations have been built from a strong defence, enabling the rest of the team to develop & growing confidence throughout the team, resulting in some very good football being played. This is highlighted in the goals conceded significantly reducing & the goals scored more than double last season’s total. The 2nd half of the season was particularly rewarding for me & the team, as they finally got the results their commitment, determination, team spirit & football deserved. They need to maintain & build on this for next season, which has the potential to be very successful & enjoyable one. Special mention to Archie, Stephen, Luke & Jamie Fletcher for playing every game this season. Massive thanks to Neil (Zimbabwe) Kirsh & Carol Kirsh for all their help throughout the season. Matt.

Due to the poor weather we have en- countered this season, it looks like we are going well into May to com- plete our season, but with one game to go we have finished Champions!!! Unlike previous seasons we have exited both League and county cups at the first hurdle. We have subsequently concentrated on the League and boys have been pretty consistent, even with the season being stop start due to the weather!!!! At the beginning of the year with a few players leaving from last season , we added Aaron, Kareem, Elliott, Josh Johnson , Mitchell and welcomed back Joshua Sargent to Rayleigh wearing the NO 1 shirt. We started the season away to newly promoted Southend Manor where the rain was incessant but the boys did very well to overcome the conditions to win the game 4 – 2, primarily down to Josh making a couple of world class saves in the first 10 minutes. This game was the start of a 7 game unbeaten league run (over 6 months from Sept to late Feb).We then had our first league games against fellow title contenders Canvey and Great Wakering respectively. We lost to Canvey 2 -0 but bounced back to beat Great Wakering 1 – 0 with a superb all round team performance. This set us up for the final push and after a narrow victory against Trinity we then encountered Canvey again, which we knew would be a tough game. However all the boys put in a magnificent effort to win 4 – 0 and played some great football to thorough- ly deserve the victory. We then encountered Great Wakering in the return league match only to be beaten 1-0 this time but again it was a great effort from the boys and some days you don’t always get what you deserve. Lets hope the boys can continue this form for the remainder of the season. Like many other seasons the boys continuing to get compliments from opposing managers on how they play football and would like to thank John and Mark for this for continuing to coach the boys to play a pass and move game , whilst we continue to increase and compete on our physical side of the game. With myself, John and Mark stepping down next season and some of the boys moving on, at this moment in time discussions are still going on whether the team will continue under the current set up and thanks to Tshili for trying to make this happen but whatever happens I am sure the boys will continue to play football in the right manner. Finally, as always, I would like to say a big thank you to John & Mark for their coaching and as- sistance/support on Match days, thanks to the parents for their continued support and especially those for running the line (I never did get round to writing out that rota!!) and also a big thank you to our sponsors Laser Essex Ltd. The final thanks goes to the boys for there efforts throughout the season and I wish you all well for the future. Thanks. Mark

After losing four team players at the end of last season, Adam Galligan (Perry Street), Jacob Nicholls (Hambro Colts), Matt Ridgewell (Junior Bocas) and Kareem Codabaccus (Rayleigh Blue) we had to sign on new players during the Summer. Four boys were signed. Tom Crick (Rayleigh Blue), Daniel Payne (Southend Manor), Deniz Kemal and Ellis Clift. Following 7 con- secutive seasons in goal, our keeper and new team captain Daniel Birch swapped gloves with Sam Missing to play on pitch. We kicked off our 4th campaign in Division B with high hopes playing many of our arch rivals plus the newly promoted Vange Utd, Island Boys and Chalvedon Boys. Our opening game was against Vange where we lead 2-1 at half time only to be out- played in the second half and losing 6-2. Having signed 4 new players we knew it was going to take a few matches for the team to gel, so there was rotation to find their best positions. In both our next games against Island Boys and Trinity we were drawing at half time only to make mistakes and concede soft

  • goals. Our first game against Chalvedon Boys saw us cruise into a 2-0 lead only for the wheels to fall off at half time and

crash to a 5-2 defeat. Not only did we lose the game but we also lost Taylor to a series shoulder injury which kept him out for 4 months. It looked like our fortunes had changed against Hawkwell only to concede a late goal to draw 2-2. Further injuries didn’t help especially when we could only field 9 fit boys against Basildon Boys. Despite the 6-0 defeat the boys played ex- tremely well and were a credit to themselves. The League Cup came and went, another point against Hawkwell, then came the rain and snow. We only managed 1 game in December, 1 game in January and 2 games in February. Eventual champions Vange beat us comfortably at home, followed by a disappointing defeat to Island Boys. We had better fortunes against Forest Glade, drawing 2-2 and 0-0. The boys were very unlucky in both these games with Forest Glade equalising with the last kick of the game and us missing a handful of chances in the goalless draw. In the last game of the season Chalvedon only had 8 players so we played with 9 and passed them off the park winning 6-0. It has been frustrating the way in which we have lost games but the boys have learnt a lot and will come back a stronger team for next season.

This season has been a season of change for the U15 Reds and a season of two halves. By the start of the season we had lost 4 players from last year’s squad all moving to higher division teams, so down to ten players we went on a recruitment drive to get some new faces in. We signed Frazier, George, Charlie, Luke, Connor and Ben with only Connor and Ben having played for a team before. The season started slow with the new guys settling in and finding their positions in the team and we lost some games due to our own inex- perience and strength where we were simply muscled out of the game but we scrapped a few wins and lost a couple of close games. Mid season we were just below mid table and Connor Chattaway decided he was going to give up football to concentrate on different things. At Christmas we drew a match against a team we had beaten 9 - 0 pre season and I think this was our worse performance in seasons. Mark and I could not hide our disappointment and although we tried to be positive it showed on our faces how dismayed we were. All I can say is that was the last time I have looked anything but disappointed as the lads have grown in stature and filled me with pride every game. We embarked on a run of 10 games 10 wins, 9 clean sheets 29 goals for, 2 against which has as I write this us in second place in the league. The boys have grown into a team, grown into footballers and they are a pleasure to work with, they are a great bunch of players and some

  • f the new players I just wish they had started at 10 years old as their progress has been frightening. We have convincingly beaten teams

above us and fought out hard wins playing as a team yet always with a smile on our face. Even our first ever booking was Jamie telling a Referee “He should have gone to Specsavers” after a terrible decision I have seen a lot worse than that. I have never had a season with so many candidates for the player awards and this showed in the parent’s votes all being so close. On behalf of Lee, and myself thanks for being a great bunch of lads and footballers, I hope you all come back next year and build on this

  • season. I would like to thank CURO for their sponsorship of the team shirts and INEOS for their tracksuit sponsorship.

I would like to thank Gavin, Dave, Pete, Stuart, Karl, Neil, Mike and Tony for regularly running the line and special thanks to Gavin for warm- ing Martin up each game. (I think we have all seen the benefits) I would like to personally say what a great friendly bunch of Parents we have who make my role easier. Thank you to Karen who does so much more than me behind the scenes not only for our team but across the whole Club .Finally Thanks to Lee and Mark who have put a lot of hard work and effort into the children I know how passionately you all feel about the team and your efforts to improve them which I firmly believe we have seen this season and hopefully improving further next

  • season. Well done lads and keep enjoying your football. Thank you to everyone who has supported the U15 Reds Team.

We’ve propped up Division “B” all season and although at the time

  • f writing this note there’s still a few games to play, our position in the table is unlikely to change.

We were joined by a couple of good footballers at the start of the season and our hopes of a good year were really high. Regretfully however, we just haven’t been able to put it together as a team. One week we’d play really well, the next week we’d be all over the place. The vast majority of the team have been together since mini-soccer days and we’ve seen just how well they can all play. It’s hard to believe that only two seasons ago we finished as Champions. The lads are growing up fast and for many, the excitement of late night parties seems to have overtaken the excitement

  • f a game of football. There has however been a handful of lads who have played consistently well all sea-

son, but to win games you need the whole team to play with the same commitment and passion. What has been pleasing though is that the team has stuck together despite the poor results on the pitch. It would have been far easier to have just walked away but they didn’t, and for this alone they deserve a lot

  • f credit.

Hopefully we’ll stay together for one final season and hopefully we’ll again get the opportunity of finishing a season on a high. There’s no doubt that each and every player has the ability to play well and with the right attitude at training and at games, there’s no reason why we can’t regain the form that brought us so much enjoyment & success in previous years. As always, our sincere thanks to all those who have supported the team each and every week. We’ve al- ways enjoyed good crowds at games and it’s greatly appreciated – you all deserve a medal!! This season saw a significant change, both in terms of boys, manager and coaches. We started the season with 8 players from the previous year and, despite our best efforts to re- cruit more, we found ourselves playing the first fixture with only 10 players. Nevertheless, we managed to gain a draw in that game! After that first game, we gained a couple of more play- ers and for a while we were holding our own within the league, even though at times we never had the luxury our opponents had of making substitutions for tired legs. We battled on regardless throughout the season, even making it to the semi-final of the league cup. The boys should be very proud of their achievements this season, not only have they had to battle through with the bare minimum of players at times, but they had to adapt quickly to work as a team with it being their first year playing together. They should all be pleased with the performances they have put in and, although our position in the table is not what we would have hoped for, this does not reflect in any way the great football which has played this season ... we have just been unlucky at times! We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Sullivan for all his coaching skills, the dads for running the line and putting up/ down nets and the mums for chatting on the sidelines and then asking “who scored”! We would also like to say a special thank you to Clare, club secre- tary, for all the assistance she has given us over this season. Finally, thank you to all the team for a being a great bunch of boys. All the best to the boys for next year! Neil & Matt

This was another good season in which the boys have shown again that on their day they are a match for anyone. They still have the ability to put in the odd poor performance and that ultimately has stopped us pushing for promotion. We have won 11, drawn 3 and lost 6. Of the 6 games we have lost we had led in 4 of them but that’s football. It’s great to see 8 of our players reaching 200 games for Rayleigh Boys, that really is a great achievement and one they should all feel very proud

  • f. Well done to Steven Mead for getting to 100 games and for maintaining his a goal a game ratio,

Steve often gets stick for the ones that get away but there are very few footballers who can say they have scored 115 goals in 115 games, well done Steven. We are fortunate to have two great strikers and well done to Sam Ashkuri on being the team’s leading goal scorer with 20 goals, bring- ing his career total to 191 in 201 games, again a fantastic achievement. Only another 220 and you can break the record of 410 set by Neil Harris. A big Thank You to Steve Davies for his continued support, I know you are desperate to manage the team before we call it a day but I’ll have one more season next year and you can do the year after! Thank you to Kim for returning as treasurer. Thank you to all the mums and dads and to the all the boys who are still turning up after 10 years, most of the time. Overall this has been another tough season but we have all persevered meaning that this was certainly more fun than the previous season. There have been many challenges to overcome and I think it is a credit to the boys that we have managed to field at least 11 on all but one of the matches. We ended last season with 8 players and managed to find 6 new recruits over the summer who have fitted in to the team very well. The indifferent early season form had Ian and I questioning whether we were doing the right thing but as time went by we proved that hard work and perseverance pays off, meaning that we finished the season in good form. Playing with no recognised strikers has hindered us but the boys who have been given the chance to fill that role have all showed great commitment with no lack of effort. We missed our goalkeeper for 4 matches and special thanks go to Cam, Lewis and Jack for standing in when called upon. Ian, Matt and I will not be continuing with the team next season. Moving up to under 18’s is a big step, and with the boys heading off in different directions in September we feel this is probably a good time to step away from running the team. Special thanks go to; Ian who has been an invaluable asset to the team proving that experience is vital. Mel who has had to put up with another season of game re-enactments and “if onlys”. big step up from last season. Some of the boys have found it hard on weekends to make training and some of the games due to work commitments but we have manage to get a full side out every week . In all competitions we have scored 62 goals and Against 47. In the league cup the boys got to the semi finals after being 2-0 up at half time I thought it was a final for the boys, Then came 3 inju- ries to Ben, Jack & Bradley, it was like Casualty! Unfortunately, Runwell manage to score 3 goals and then our heads dropped. A special thank you to the dads who have run the line for me this season also to the parents for there support and a little mention to Loyal supporter John McWilliams :0) . I would like to say thanks to all 17 players making my season a good one. Many Thanks Wayne O P W D L Points 14 7 3 4 24

Only our second season together and with a few additions to bolster our squad from last year the team has really come together. With one game remaining we sit in 8th place with a possibility of finishing anywhere between 6th and 9th in a very competitive league. With a slow start we built on good performances eventually turning them into valuable wins. Unfortunately dropping points early in the season against the lower teams means we’re not as high as we could have been, but an important platform to build on next season. Chris

Rayleigh FC B

This is our second season as a team in the league and it's been somewhat of an indifferent season this year. We was hoping to better last season as losing finalist in the league cup and a mid-table finish. First game of the season against Leigh Rockets (eventual league and cup winners) match was abandoned at 1-1 due to an opposing player breaking his tibia and fibula 8 minutes in, bad news for the young lad who was injured but both sets of players were excited that the air ambu- lance was called in and landed on the centre spot to transfer the guy to hospital. Getting this horrific injury out of the players minds, we went on a good run in the league and both cups (Ray Howlett and South Essex Junior Trophy) boosting the confidence of the guys. We lost our Captain to the Falklands - not the war I might add but he has had and still has a working contract over there. So John Rankin Maclean stepped up from vice captain eager to lead the guys on. Sadly he was let down by the terrific English weather, every game from the start of November up until the end of February was postponed once we eventually got going we was knocked out

  • f the South Essex Junior Trophy after travelling to the middle of nowhere in the north of Essex.

The defeat hit the guys quite badly and we had a few bad games but progression to the League Cup semi final got the boys back on track. We was pushing for promotion with some commanding victories but due to the postponed games through the winter we had to face a few double headers, which as everyone knows are a killer, and with injuries playing a part our team was becoming depleted and people were play- ing out of position week in week out but nobody was complaining but worst of all we were lucky if we could field 10 players let alone 11, and through these matches some results went

  • ur way and some didn't, the ones that didn't hit us hard and had an effect on our promotion

push. With 2 games still left to play we are still mathematically in with a chance of promotion, needing 6 points and we have to overturn a goal difference of 19. It looks all over but as everyone knows nothing is impossible in Sunday League Football especially if you're willing to fight for it. I have already told the guys this and they are up for the challenge, so watch this space......

First of all I apologise for this photo which is clearly not of Rayleigh FC Vets. These lads are of course younger and fitter than this year’s squad, although I really like their kit (lucky to be sponsored by The Communist Party I would say). All in all it has been a good season as the team have enjoyed some good wins and finished in the top half of Division 4 East (AKA the bottom division!) Highlights of the season: Tony Bellamy’s ‘70 yard run’…..5 yards first game,7 yards second game, 2 yards third game etc The Battle of Brentwood - a violent game involving verbal abuse, threats and dangerous two-footed tackles (referees these days...you simply can’t trust them!) Neil Kirsh’s goal kick against Runwell FC in September (it is being tracked by NASA and is expected to leave the penalty area by around 2050) A big thanks to: Mark Chapman for organising matches (from his private booth in Dunkin Doughnuts) Mark Crocker who has run the finances (from the Dutch Antilles???) Paul Canty whose company ‘Map Interiors’ is the team’s kit sponsor Tony Bellamy as the inspirational player-manager Thanks to all the team for turning out. Enjoy being cryogenically frozen through the summer, or resting up in your sheltered accommodation and see you next season. The Tin Man

Our campaign to provide football boots and English football league tops (amongst oth- er things) contjnues in earnest. Since the campaign started out a few years back, our efgorts now reach a far wider audience and have been recognized as a huge positjve infmuence on many children in South Africa. The most rewarding feedback to date was; “At a recent monthly meetjng with the municipality, local football clubs and communi- ty ward councillors it was commented that the RBYFC’s on-going campaign has contrib- uted to an increase in the number of youngsters joining the football clubs and there- fore has reduced the number of children on the streets. This has contributed to a re- ductjon in street crime and increased awareness of the importance of a safe and healthy lifestyle”. More recently, our contacts on the ground have identjfjed a local Witbank football club (Mayfair FC) that also campaigns for under privileged local children. This really is a worthy cause and very much in keeping with our own efgorts so we will look to support them as our next initjatjve in South Africa. As this year’s football season draws to a close, please consider how you can help us help the children of these extremely poor communitjes. During the next couple of months many of us are likely to be buying our children new football boots, trainers or premier league football tops. Don’t let the replaced footwear or football tops gather dust in the wardrobe, please bag them up and provide to any commituee member, or drop ofg to Danny at 24 Crown Hill, (07768 992021 / dannystalley@yahoo.co.uk). We can guarantee your donatjons will get to the most neediest of children providing a huge boost to them all. Many Thanks Danny Stalley

Rayleigh FC Trophies

Chairman’s Trophy

The Chairman’s trophy (A 14” Shield) was donated in 2007 by Martin Shields to the club in memory of his late father who was also called Martin. The winner each year is decided by the Chairman of the club and the decision is based on a person or persons who have contributed to the club or have achieved something exceptional for the club. A true unsung hero. The winner keeps the Shield for 1 year and it is engraved with their name. They also receive a small award to keep. 2008 Catherine Cooper 2009 Neil Kirsh 2010 Alan Webb 2011Geoff Middleton & Richard Amoroso 2012 Rob Smith

Brian Mitchell Trophy

The trophy is in honour of Brian’s 25 years service to Rayleigh Boys being a founder of the club.

Val Clarke Trophy

The Val Clark Trophy was first presented in 1986. It was donated to the club by Val on her retirement. Val was the first secretary to the club and one of the founding members in 1976. The Val Clark trophy is voted on by the committee and is presented to any one with in the club who we feel has stood out with there achievements be them grand or small. This could be any body with in the club no matter what their role is . They just have to be a supporter of Rayleigh boys. We would like for next year to award the trophy to somebody who was nominated by a fellow member

Club History

The club was founded in 1976. There were four Committee members; Bill Coventry, Brian Mitchell, Val Clark and Terry Jeacock. In the first season the club had two teams at U9 & U10 but by 1980 the club had 8 teams altogether. Initially, most play- ers came from either Rayleigh Primary School or Grove Junior School and their re- spective pitches were used up to 1984. Trenders Avenue was also used in the early days and parents and managers used to help cut and mark the pitches. In 1982 Ray- leigh Boys started playing at Fairview Park and Grove Park. Club presentations used to be held at Grove Junior School switching to the Mill Hall in 1982 where Trevor Brook- ing OBE presented the trophies on many occasions In 1995 Raylee FC was formed to give players an opportunity to play senior football. They currently have 5 teams playing at Fairview. In 1997, Mini Soccer was introduced and Rayleigh Boys were founder members of the South East Essex Primary Mini Soc- cer League. At present the club has over 40 teams. To date the club has had great success on the playing side and with players going on to represent professional clubs. Neil Harris at Southend Utd, Dean Gerken at Bristol City and Matthew Lockwood at Dundee are just three good examples. The club continue to offer the opportunity for boys, girls and adults to play organised football with the emphasis being on fun and enjoyment. Recent developments have included the new ground at the Chichester in Rawreth; the facilities being the envy of many local clubs; adult and veterans football; a dedicated development center at King Georges Park, Rayleigh and the club being awarded FA Community Status year on year. Please contact the club if you feel you could write a more detailed club history for

  • ur website and Wikipedia. Many thanks.
