Consumers are now smarter than ever. They want more say about the food they buy and more say on how it is processed. Companies have responded by stating clearly the origin of the food we eat is clearly stated for the consumer to see. The consumer does not desire only to pay for his meal, but we believe is willing to also buy into the story. For whatever motivating factor – Provenance will now in some way shape or form, be the reason for a consumer’s decisions to pay for their next meal.

any seafood caught. The value immediately drops once caught. FISH WASTAGE BY COMMERCIAL FISHERIES Around the world it is estimated that about 10M tonnes is wasted and thrown away. This is due to limited storage on vessels, size limits, and through protection of higher grading where only the best are kept. By comparison, commercial fisheries catch 30M tonnes for consumption every year.

Our solution allows fishermen in remote areas to keep their fish fresh until it reaches the customer. For bigger centres, towns or cities, REEL will work with Government Agencies, local fishing communities and other partners to organise the setting up of central fish processing buildings. Once brought back to the cold storage reefers(or processing plants), the fish are tagged with QR Tags, photographed and uploaded to the Reel management System (RMS) – a secured ledger based system (like Blockchain) that will allow P2P interaction between the Customer and the local fisherman. The Reel system will manage the logistics by ensuring the fish is shipped to the buyer via the quickest route. Different Tagging options (that can integrate with the RMS) will be employed. The fish or catch are shipped in smart boxes with NFC technology. There are several smart box manufacturers that we are looking at and have contacted. The boxes are environmentally friendly and are not harmful to the food chain and the ecosystem (such as the traditional Styrofoam cool boxes). The smart boxes are also trackable, traceable, and reusable. The smart cool boxes preserve the fish and in real time collect information such as temperature and route taken. Once the box arrives at the buyers point, the buyer scans the box with his smart phone and information about the journey including temperature is revealed (any spike in temperature will mean the box was either opened or exposed to heat). If the buyer is satisfied, he accepts shipment through his RMS account. The Reel System automatically makes payment to the fishermen or cooperative and any other parties. REEL is compensated for the logistics portions and then also paid its percentage. The idea is that Reel acts as the facilitator of the online market bringing the markets to the fishing communities. Building Fishing Communities Through REEL, we hope to help revive or establish local fishing communities/cooperatives and fishing ecosystems. REEL understands that cooperatives do not always work, and we are flexible and will work with communities through our community based officers to find the model that best fits a particular village. These Communities/groups/individuals will be registered under the REEL Management System and will benefit immediately from the Markets we will have established.
