This screening check is designed to be informal, relaxed and fun. (“Quiz time!” ) It is designed specifically to check pupil progress in phonics and their ability to decode words. It is not a test of ‘reading’!

What can you do at home?

  • Read, read, read! Keep reading with your child and talking with

them about what they are reading. Enjoy reading together!

  • Look at decodable words and help your child use their phonics

skills to work them out.

  • Help them to recognise alternative graphemes for different

phonemes i.e. the different ways we can spell a sound, when they are reading and writing.

  • Keep calm and carry on. This is not something to worry about!
