Technology Device Inventory (anticipated 9-1-20)

  • Students in 6th to 12th grade will have their 1:1 Program Chromebooks

○ 7th to 12th Grade already has them ○ 6th Grade Deployment via Drive Through August 18th and 19th ■ Makeup times August 21st and 24th

  • Reacquire “Loaner” Chromebooks for Elementary Students

○ Held pick up days on July 21st and 22nd

Additional pick up days on August 17th, 19th, 21st, and 24th ○ Chromebooks taken to Elementary Schools the week of August 24th

  • Elementary Chromebook supply will be evaluated the week of August 24th

○ Should be 1:1 in 1st to 5th grade by September 8th ○ The new 9th to 12th grade chromebook lease will allow us to reinforce these numbers by October to get Kindergarten 1:1

Technology Device Inventory (anticipated 9-1-20)

  • In the Event of an All Virtual Start to the 2020-2021 School Year

○ We will not be able to provide a Chromebook to every student in Kindergarten to 5th Grade until at best October ■ We will be able to provide 1 device for every 2 students in a household ■ We will need to ask that parents only get a device if they do not have another one at home ■ This limits the ability for Synchronous Teaching

  • This issue will be resolved with the new 1:1 9th-12th grade Chromebook

Lease ○ We anticipate getting these in September and need to switch with the high school students via Drive Through

PDE Guidance on Instructional Time (7-6-20)

Section 520.1 of the School Code provides flexibility in the event of an emergency that prevents a school entity from being able to provide for the attendance of all pupils or usual hours of classes. PDE considers the World Health Organization-declared Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) global pandemic an emergency as contemplated by section 520.1. Accordingly, local governing boards have the authority to enact temporary provisions as set forth in section 520.1 during the period of the pandemic response and should consult their solicitor in this regard.

(2) Reduce the length of time of daily instruction for various courses and classes. (c) Any school district, by invoking the powers herein granted, shall not thereby forfeit its right to reimbursement by the Commonwealth or other State-aid as otherwise provided for by this act.

Four Days Total for Each Level Summer (Voluntary)

  • July 27th - 30th (Secondary)

Fall

  • First Week of School (All)

○ This requires a change to the 2020-2021 District Calendar Traditional In-School Learning Plan

  • All students in school every day.
  • Pennsbury curricula will be used.
  • Student work will be graded using regular grading procedures.
  • Classrooms are arranged to provide maximum distance between desks (i.e.:

3 ft. or more)

  • When furniture and space permits, desks/seats will face the same direction.
  • Masks will need to be worn during change of classes at all levels and when 6

feet of social distance cannot be maintained.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Hybrid Learning Plan (2 days per week in-person) (3 days at home for remote work completion)

  • This plan reduces the number of students in classrooms, hallways and on

buses.

  • It ensures meaningful connections between teachers and students.
  • Students are divided into two groups, with half coming to school on Mondays

and Wednesdays and the other half coming to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hybrid Learning Plan (Cont’d)

  • Students will remain at home on Fridays for remote instruction. This will be a

combination of live support (synchronous) and independent work (asynchronous).

  • Certain student populations with specific educational needs could potentially

attend more frequently.

  • Classrooms are arranged to provide maximum distance between desks (i.e.:

6 feet) where feasible.

  • When furniture and space permits, desks/seats will face the same directions.
slide-14
SLIDE 14

Hybrid Learning Plan (Cont’d)

  • The teachers would manage content delivery using

developmentally-appropriate learning management platform.

○ Grades 6-12 will utilize Canvas. ○ Grades K-5 will utilize Google Classroom.

  • There will be an expectation for professional staff to provide weekly
  • pportunities for synchronous instructional opportunities.

Full Remote Learning Plan Students remain at home full time and participate in remote instruction. This will be led by a Pennsbury teacher and will include synchronous (live video-instruction) with asynchronous (self-paced) activities plus regularly scheduled virtual office hours when students will receive assistance from a teacher and/or additional staff members. 1. Students will engage in virtual learning from home with instruction and support from a teacher. 2. There will be a dramatic increase in the amount of live teaching with set times for direct engagement in a virtual class setting.

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Full Remote Learning Plan (cont’d) 3. Set office hours will be established for students to receive additional support from a teacher and/or additional staff members. 4. Teachers will utilize rigorous, standards-aligned Pennsbury curricula which should ease any transition back to face-to-face instruction. 5. The teachers would manage delivery of Pennsbury curricula using developmentally-appropriate learning management platforms:

  • Grades 6-12 will utilize Canvas.
  • Grades K-5 will utilize Google Classroom.

Full Remote Learning Plan (cont’d) 6. Purchase of additional digital resources to support virtual learning is planned. 7. Assessments and teacher feedback will continue to be a regular part of learning and coordinate with the current Pennsbury grading system. 8. Student participation and attendance is mandatory and expected for all days and classes when in session. 9. Students will continue to have access to all aspects of being a student (activities, sports, clubs).

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Full Remote Learning Plan (cont’d)

  • 10. Students with specialized learning needs will be afforded a team meeting

to address the potential need for specially-designed supports.

  • 11. Use of a District-issued device will be provided, if needed.

*A transition opportunity to in-person instruction may be offered to families for the second semester, depending on conditions.

Next Steps

July 30, 2020

  • Add Board Action Meeting
  • Seek Board Approval of Continuity of Education Plan (CoE)
  • Seek Board Approval of Athletic Health and Safety Plan

After approval of the CoE, administration will survey parents for 2020-2021 SY regarding: 1. Educational option 2. Need for a device 3. Need for transportation
