• OSSE has received questions from LEAs about student gender data,

specifically allowing for a “non-binary” option

• OSSE was not aware prior to this week that some LEAs will be

collecting “non-binary” values for student gender in SY2019-20

• Federal reporting requirements from U.S. Department of Education

require student gender to be reported as “male”, “female”, or “X”

• OSSE will be discussing this matter internally prior to the release of

the next year’s data template
