Introductions

Welcome to our Gavel Club of Nassau County Semester 2! We are very excited to work with past students again and welcome our new students joining our program. Our members of the Gavel Club will now each introduce themselves. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GMAIL!

Levels

  • Level 5 is the highest level and level 1 is the lowest level
  • If you completed semester 1 you have now completed level 1 and are in level 2
  • If you are a new student you are in level 1
  • Once you finish level 5 you get to become a mentor and advise our Friday or

Tuesday classes

  • As long as you complete all of your assignments for each semester and

participate, you will level up. If you don't complete your assignments and participate you will stay in the same level Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5

Speech Format

Introduction - Hook, states the purpose for the speech, and the (3) main ideas 1st Body Paragraph- 1st main idea stated in the introduction Elaborate using supporting ideas 2nd Body Paragraph- 2nd main idea stated in the introduction Elaborate using supporting ideas 3rd Body Paragraph- 3rd main idea stated in the introduction Elaborate using supporting ideas Conclusion- restates the purpose of the speech Restates the main idea and conclude with a closing statement

Homework

  • Due Friday July 10 during our Gavel Club Class
  • We will check who does the HW. If you have a great

video we will post it on our website and give you an extra star.

  • Level 1: Record and post a 1 minute video introducing

yourself to the class and post it to the wechat group chat

  • Level 2: 2 minute video and add a word of the day word

(check out the previous slides from our website to see the word of the days!)

  • Things to be mindful of: Looking at the camera, speaking clearly and slowly
  • Begin your speech by introducing yourself and telling a few facts about yourself such

as how old you are, where you are from, which school you attend to. Hobbies, things that you like, favorite food

  • Please DO your homework! Or else you can’t level up
  • We will have five star students starting this new semester
  • Speech should include an introduction (include a hook), 3 body paragraphs stating main ideas and a

conclusion to wrap up

  • Public speaking will make you more confident, make social connection, help with school presentation

and career advancement

  • If you attend our semester one, you will be in level two. But if you’re a new student, you will start with

level one
