Port Community System (Port EDI)

Project Background of Port EDI System

 In order to realize the National Single

Window System, transformation of port related procedures from manual processes to pixel becomes one of the critical issues.

 That’s why ‘The Exchange of Notes’ between the Government of the

Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of Japan has been signed on March 19, 2015.

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Port Community System (Port EDI)

Project Background of Port EDI System

 ‘The Grant Agreement’ between MPA on behalf of the Ministry of Transport

  • f the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and JICA

Myanmar Office on behalf of the JICA was signed on March 26, 2015.

 Grant Aid

  • ¥ 1720 Million (US$ 14.27 Million)
slide-25
SLIDE 25

Port Community System (Port EDI)

Scope of Port EDI System

 EDI covers most things that are traditionally done using paper-based

communication.

I D Business Description 01 Port-Clearance Procedures Procedures such as application from applicants to MPA and

  • ther ministries in the case of the port entrance and departure
  • f the vessels, and procedures of reply/ approval by MPA and
  • ther ministries.

02 Berth Allocation Berth allocation for vessels to be entered. 03 Invoice Issuing Administrative work

  • f

charge claim and payment management procedure such as port terminal charge etc. 04 Statistics Management Support of making reports based on the statistical data. 05 Logistics Monitoring (Visualization of logistics) Real time data sharing with relatives such as ship movements information, container status information, etc. 06 Terminal Operation Support of terminal operation such as GC (general cargo) terminal, motor vehicle terminal and container terminal.

SLIDE 34

Conclusion

Benefits of Port EDI Project

 Direct transmission

 Port EDI includes the direct transmission of data directly to

the system if the data are standardized like UN/EDIFACT known as "Guidelines for Trade Data Interchange" (GTDI). (adopted by IMO FAL convention

 Cut down the possibility of human error

 EDI would also cut down on the tendency for "human error”.

EDI eliminates this possibility because the receiving end is a computer that simply translates the message that has already been keyed into the system.

slide-35
SLIDE 35

Conclusion

Benefits of Port EDI Project

 Reduces the risk of lost data

 Whether that means the data is physically unable to be located,

  • r if only part of the data has been lost through the numerous

steps require to conduct business through the use of paper.

 The benefits of EDI include:

 Time savings and associated financial savings accrued, Improved

accuracy, Improved trading partner relationships and client interactions, Improved reconciliation of transactions exchanged.

slide-36
SLIDE 36

Conclusion

 Cooperation, Coordination and Communication for the

development of the port and shipping industry can be enhanced by the port community system
