  4. MUNICIPAL CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION CENTRE Provides funding, technical assistance, and education to support Alberta municipalities, schools, and non-profits in addressing climate change by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions

CCITF PROGRAMS Clean Technology programs on behalf of Economic Development & Trade for: • Development (CTD) Municipal Community • Networks (CTN) Generation Challenge • Commercialization (CT Com) is supported by both the CT Com and CTN • Business Innovation Vouchers (CTBI) • Facilities Support (CTFS)

  11. WHY APPLY? Increased capacity through Long term revenue by selling electricity to the grid network partnerships Job creation, economic development, Support Alberta’s energy and community resilience transition

  12. WHAT IS COMMUNITY GENERATION? Distribution-connected renewable or alternative energy system that provides community benefits • Allows communities to • Gives Albertans access to participate in energy renewable energy and projects through full or generate revenue by selling partial ownership electricity to the grid

SMALL SCALE GENERATION REGULATION Reduces barriers for distribution-connected community • electricity generation Outlines rules and definitions around set-up and operation of a • project All projects must be in compliance to these regulations • Size is only limited by capacity of local distribution network • (approx. max of 25 MW)

  14. FUNDING MCCAC is investing up to $7 million • Alberta Innovates is investing up to $3 million • Total of $10 million in funding for one or multiple projects • The municipality / SME Network partners are expected to • contribute financially to the project in an amount 25% or more of the AI contribution

  15. FUNDING EXAMPLE FOR ONE PROJECT WITH TOTAL COST = $10,750,000 MCCAC $7 Million FUNDING RECEIVED FROM MCGC = Alberta Innovates $3 Million $10 MILLION Municipality and $750,000 Partners (25% of AI contribution)

  16. ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS 2 3 1 LOW CARBON OTHER ALBERTA ELECTRICITY MUNICIPALITIES NETWORK ALBERTA-BASED PARTNER(s)... Multiple SMALL TO MEDIUM municipalities SIZED ENTERPRISE can submit a (SME) joint application

ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS OTHER NETWORK PARTNERS MAY INCLUDE...  Community related organizations and non-profit organizations  Indigenous communities  Energy regulators, energy generation and distribution partners  Entrepreneurs, consultants, legal/ environmental experts  Post-secondary institutions  Private sector / industry

  18. ELIGIBLE TECHNOLOGIES  Small-scale hydro  Solar photovoltaics (PV)  Fuel cells  Biomass  Wind  Geo-thermal  Any other eligible technology per SSGR Multiple technologies can be combined

  19. ELIGIBLE FACILITIES MUST…  Meet community generation facility definition  Be a community generating unit as per regulation located in Alberta  Reduce GHG emissions  Have an AUC approved community benefits statement or agreement  Share knowledge with other municipalities  Sell excess electricity to the grid  Projects must be completed by March 31, 2022

  20. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Successful projects of Emission Reduction Alberta’s BEST • Challenge are ineligible Any activities funded under the Community Generation • Capacity Building program are ineligible Municipality Applicant or Partner(s) may not register or • claim any environmental attributes generated by the Project

STAGE 1 LETTER OF INTEREST APPLICATION  Identifies interest in participating in the Challenge  Non binding; Municipalities may withdraw at any stage  Read the Program Guide before applying  Download the letter template online and submit before May 10 at 4:00pm  Submit by email to inbox_grants@albertainnovates.ca

  24. STAGE 1 LETTER OF INTEREST APPLICATION Supports information sharing to begin forming partnerships:  With other interested municipalities  With potential network partners
