Summer Shutdown

August 1, 2019 4

  • S. Berkman
  • Collecting 16 Hz cosmic data.
  • Staffing 24 hour shifts.
  • MiniBooNE turned off July 17
  • Laser calibration data collected July

22-24.

  • Possibility for more later in the

summer.

  • Power outages
  • Off July 31-August 2, and August 27-28

to accommodate outages at LArTF

  • New BES and RWM beam signals

from AD

  • Remove old hardware
  • Working to implement delay to match

previous BES signal used to trigger.

Summer Shutdown Cryo Work

August 1, 2019 5

  • S. Berkman
  • Argon purity related work
  • Purged and refilled external dewar
  • Small drop in TPC pulse heights and

PMT rates around cryostat fills

  • First fill after dewar purge last week,

no drop in cryostat purity

  • Stopped analyzing argon in cryostat
  • Analyzers not sensitive enough to

detect impurities observed in TPC

  • Top off detector every ~1.5 months

instead of every 2 weeks

  • Fewer opportunities to introduce

contaminants

  • Regenerate filters
  • Recover more quickly in the future if

there are contaminants in the argon

  • Pump replacement
  • Pump tripped June 7. Restarted

manually, and working.

  • Needs to be replaced annually
  • Update controls computers to be

compatible with Windows 10
