Shutdown 2016:
MicroBooNE’s Beam Timing Improvements
- 2015-2016: MicroBooNE (μB) took it’s first year of data
using the same triggering signals as MiniBooNE
- TCLK $1D + $1F coincidence for BNB
- double check with BNB resistive wall monitor (RWM)
- $A9 for NuMI
- 2015: I asked how precisely we knew neutrino arrival.
- Neutrinos interacting in material upstream of the detector
can eject neutrons which enter μB and mimic important physics signals.
- The main handle on these neutrons will be their late arrival (>
4-22 ns).
- What I learned from folks at AD:
- TCLK has intrinsic 100 ns jitter. (the above study would be
impossible)
- Also learned that $1F may unwittingly get bumped by 1.2 μs!
(μB miss 75% of BNB spill! and not know!)
- Also learned that NuMI has a RWM too…
