Key fjndings: Explainer

  • Respondents were asked to rank their response to our ques.ons

in order of preference: Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree and Strongly Disagree.

  • For the purposes of this analysis, ‘Strongly Agree’ and ‘Agree’

were amalgamated and ‘Strongly Disagree’ and ‘Disagree’ were

  • amalgamated. ‘Neutral’ remained untouched.
  • The following quan.ta.ve feedback sets out the most common

response to the ques.on.

  • For example, if 38% disagree with a ques9on, this does not

necessarily mean the remaining 62% agree. 33% may have marked down ‘Neutral’ and the remaining 29% may have agreed. Therefore, ‘38% disagree’ was the most common response.

  • 50% disagreed that it is important that a secondary centre is

created around a school, open space, shops and local centre on Wor.ng Road

  • 49% agreed that schools should be located next to the country

park

  • 38% agreed that it was important that one of the primary schools

is located south of Wor.ng Road

  • 38% disagreed that it is important that the schools are located

next to the centre

  • 85% agreed that the suggested uses of the centre will create a vibrant

and viable heart for the community

  • 69% agreed that it is important people live within walking distance of

new centres

  • 69% agreed that it is important for Manydown to connect with the

surrounding area

  • 67% agreed with providing flexible units that can serve different uses is

good

  • 56% agreed that incorpora.ng flexible business and employment space

in the new Manydown centre is a good idea

  • 49% disagreed that it is important that a new centre is located near or
  • n Wor.ng Road in a highly prominent loca.on
  • 39% agreed that it was important to create a small local centre to the

south of the railway near Pack Lane

  • 38% disagreed that it is important that a new centre is located near

Winklebury

Key fjndings: Public Open Space

  • 75% agreed that a majority of residents should live within walking

distance of open space

  • 70% agreed that it was important that a green wedge is retained

to Worthing Road next to the country park

  • 69% agreed that safe walking and cycle routes to local

des.na.ons would encourage them to walk or use a bicycle

  • 68% agreed there should be a smaller number of larger open

spaces

  • 50% agreed that it was important that open space is located on

the western edge of the development

  • 72% agreed that a new direct bus route into Basingstoke town

centre would encourage them to leave their car at home

  • 69% agreed that safe walking and cycle routes to local

des.na.ons would encourage them to walk or use a bicycle

  • 58% preferred cycle lanes on both sides of the street
  • 56% agreed with the design principles of the central street
  • 52% agreed that the central street as shown could encourage

walking and cycling whilst allowing vehicular traffic to flow

  • 92% agreed that it was important to be able to walk and cycle to

the country park

  • 78% agreed with the design principles for the country park
  • 77% agreed that it is important to include car parking at the

country park

  • 58% agreed that the vision will aSract the local popula.on as well

as assis.ng the country park becoming a regional des.na.on

  • 40% disagreed that it is important that the visitor centre is

located close to Basingstoke town centre

  • 87% agreed that it is important to create a variety in character

and type of architecture where the landscape becomes a strong feature

  • 82% agreed that it is important to provide for home working, with

houses having flexible space to be used as study and access to broadband

  • 78% agreed that there should be a variety of architectural styles

to make the character areas of Manydown more dis.nguishable from each other

  • 47% agreed that it is important to create a mix of different unit

types and sizes in close proximity to each other

comments on the exhibi.on boards using post-it notes.

  • The comments received were on a range of subjects and should

not be treated as personal ‘wish lists’, but as contribu.ons to the consulta.on.
