Main reasons of for a Marina Designer Training Program:

  • Modern large marina have to solve needing and have to offer a very wide

range of services to boats (sometime, large ships), to their owners, users, visitors and to citizens (not boaters!), too.

  • Often these have to integrate solutions to solve or mitigate conflicts in high

human pressure wet zones, ports, urban and industrial waterfronts, very sensitive or attractive environments, in sea or inland fresh waters.

  • The case of recreational navigation infrastructures is often the most

challenging one in waterborne transport, and under certain points of view, these could help in rehabilitation of abandoned areas and waterfronts.

  • Marina improve the offer of integrate tourism system
  • Marina are an economic occasion and grow up number of new jobs.

Marina planning and design is nowadays more and more a complex discipline involving special knowledge in several areas of specialist expertise:

  • transport infrastructures, waterfront and urban planning
  • sustainability and environmental impacts
  • hydraulic engineering
  • coastal/ocean engineering
  • civil and structural engineering
  • architecture and lighting
  • landscaping
  • mechanical and electrical engineering
  • material technologies
  • economics and business plans
  • marina management
  • tourism

However only few opportunities exist for specific post-academic training courses for architects/engineers, and only PIANC MDTP is a specific program for “marina designer” training internationally recognized. Typically practitioners of marina design must specialize “on the job”, beyond the general study areas of coastal engineering, civil/structural design, architecture

  • r other.

Because of a lack of training and experience, under some aspects, projects could cause heavy unexpected effects, and/or be unsafe, environmentally impacting, not attractive and unpleasant places, offering low quality and sub standard results to final users.

Why a “Marina Designer”?

Nowadays the PIANC Marina Designer Training Program is the only at a truly international level. Other important organizations have signed MoU for sharing information and organizing courses with the PIANC MDTP format (ICOMIA, TYHA, University of Wisconsin, GMI). The High Council of Public Works hosts PIANC in Italy and is supported by PIANC for these activities.

  • 1500€ for non PIANC members
  • 1250€ for PIANC members duringthe last two years
  • 1000€ for Young Professionals
  • 900€ for Students with a degree in Civil or Coastal Engineeringor
