Tower Hamlets Community Grants
Total funding available £720,000. Up to 36 projects will be funded. Grants will be for up to £20,000 for each project Match funded by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the European Social Fund (ESF) Projects will run for up to 12 months starting 2 September 2019. Projects that run for less than 12 months will still be required to achieve the grant output and results targets.
Who can apply?
- Projects improving the employability of
- ut of work residents of Tower Hamlets
who are long term unemployed (25%) and economically inactive (75%)
- Community organisations
- Must
have access to premises to deliver the project in the borough
- Must have been constituted to work in
the borough before 1 August 2016
- Income
- f
less than £150,000,
- r
£250,000 if your organisation works exclusively with people with disabilities in the 2018/2019 financial year
Providers must have
Experience of delivering successful employment support in Tower Hamlets or a similar local authority area An understanding of local needs: What skills do local employers need? What do residents of the borough need? Links with employers and other service providers in the borough (e.g. Council services, other community
- rganisations) to support participants
progression into further education, training and employment. A commitment to work in partnership with Work Path throughout the project
Priority groups
Economically Inactive Women - particularly Somali and Bangladeshi women, due to parental (pre-school children) and/or caring responsibilities People with a disability a learning disability or learning difficulty Lone parents, particularly those living in temporary accommodation Lone fathers Residents who are 50+ years old Ex-offenders Residents negatively impacted by the benefit cap
All participants must be aged over 25 and residents of Tower Hamlets when they enrol.
People with health issues, particularly mental health issues
Employment status
Economically inactive (EI) People who are economically inactive have not been seeking work within the last 4 weeks and are unable to start work immediately. They also face barriers which may include:
- Caring responsibilities
- Parents of young children
- People with disabilities
- Long term health conditions
- Mental health conditions
- Substance and/or alcohol addiction or in recovery
- Homelessness
- Offenders or ex-offenders
Long-term unemployed (LTU) People who are long-term unemployed are immediately available for and actively looking for work. They must have been unemployed continuously for 12 months
- r more. If they have had any paid work in the past 12 months,
they are not LTU.
All participants must be out
- f work when they enrol
and either economically inactive (75%) or long term unemployed (25%)
Activities the Community Grant will Fund
Personal development and support Accredited or non accredited training Advice and careers counselling Basic skills training Job search Work experience/ volunteering Any activity that will help residents progress towards employment and improve employability skills will be considered, including:
Programme output and result targets
Target Output Target Description 4 long-term unemployed participants enrolled onto the project 12 economically inactive participants enrolled onto the project 16 participants enrolled on the project (Minimum total) 16 participants receiving 6+ hours of support (IAG, job-search, mentoring, training) 10 participants supported towards achieving a Level 2 (or below *) qualification Target Result Target Description 6 participants progressing into further education or training** 1 long-term unemployed participants progress into employment *** 5 economically inactive participants progress into job search/employment *** 1 Number of participants in sustained employment for 26 out of 32 weeks. Maximum funding available £20,000
How the grant will be paid
The grant will be paid in four instalments of 25%:
- Advance (25%) – paid to grant recipients
when they sign a grant agreement (subject to conditions of grant)
- Payment 2 (25%) – paid when recipients
submit evidence they have spend their advance of 25%
- Payment 3 (25%) – paid when recipients
submit evidence they have spent 50% of grant amount
- Payment 4 (25%) – paid when recipients
submit evidence they have spent 100% of the money they applied for
