  3. What is a Dementia Friendly Community “A city, town or village where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported, and confident they can contribute to Page 19 community life. The scale of the problem • Two thirds of people with the condition live in the community and almost a third of those live alone. • In 2015, only 44% of people with dementia* received a diagnosis of dementia. Page 20 • One out of 20 people are under 65 yrs • The Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia 2020 sets an ambition for over half of those diagnosed to be living in a Dementia Friendly Community * England, Wales and N Ireland

East Surrey 1,469 people aged 65+ registered with dementia (June 2018) 6 in 10 people with dementia aged 65+ have a diagnosis (Sept Page 21 2017) 2,162 people aged 65+ estimated to have dementia in the NHS East Surrey CCG area (Sept 2017) Half of the people with dementia in our community live on their own
