Stat2015 – Istat modernization multiannual program

  • Industrialization and standardization of the

statistical processes in order to overcome the stovepipes statistical production model

  • Harmonization of statistical information
  • Foster the efficiency and reuse of processes, and

the reuse of collected data

  • Raising the quality of statistics and reduce the

statistical production costs

Implementing the SDMX strategy

  • 1. From a tactical to a strategic approach
  • 2. Collaborating with other organizations
  • 3. Design a suitable cross-cutting architecture;
  • 4. Looking for the necessary funds to support

the implementation;

  • 5. Streamlining the internal workflow and

capacity building actions;

Lesson learnt

  • SDMX is enough mature to be used beyond the data

exchange between data producers (NSIs) and data collectors (IOs)

  • If SDMX becomes part of the strategy of Statistical

Organization, it could contribute effectively in the standardization and rationalization of the statistical information systems

  • but …

 The top and middle management has to be involved from the very first beginning.  Communication and capacity building actions are basic prerequisites for achieving concrete results  Re-using software, experiences and knowledge is the

  • nly way to move forward quickly
